Heart-achingly beautiful! Imagine being in the room listening to him making that recording? Puccini would have applauded. Thank you for uploading it for all of us.

Even with the primitive recording techniques of 1905, Slezak had a great voice. I prefer this aria sung in Italian, but Slezak's Deutsch is still beautiful as he sings it. I had always thought that Slezak was one of the tenors who sang the top notes like the high C in falsetto, but clearly that wasn't so.
The actor Walter Slezak was Leo's son, and the image of his father.

A beautiful voice from another age. Such a clear, and secure technique. He must have been good. The story goes he wanted to do this role onstage but Puccini didn't approve. He said it would be like an elephant wooing a weasel. Apparently the soprano was as small as Slezak was big.

I say can the weasel, this elephant sure can sing!

If only Puccini would hear the tenors nowadays... he would burn the music.

Otro GRAN TENOR , muy grande....GRANDISIMO desde todos los
aspectos . Junto al heldentenor MELCHIORE y a GIOVANNI
ZENATELLO , los mejores "Otellos " de la epoca dorada de la Opera .

Not the sung the original language though. I think it flows better in Italian (the original) more than German. And this is coming from someone with 0% Italian blood in them but actually has some German blood, so I'm not biased towards my own heritage. I'm actually going with the opposite side, lol.

A wonderful voice, and a great Austrian (Moravian) Tenor German native language!
