You should have tried the M Perf exhaust. That with the active pipes sounds pretty good.

Good choice. Those are the exact tips I have. One of my favorite mods ever. It's been almost a year and they look new (I am a fastidious detailer though).

I like the staggered set up and great choice on the titanium color; now there’s contrast between the diffuser and the tips.

Awesome Tommy. I am actually going to get a AA midpipe for my M2c and use the stock muffler. Glad you are going back this setup!
It’s the best for what’s out there and the price.
Not only the price but performance as well. With my M2c you will get rid of 2 secondary cats and resonator yielding more power. M3 is the same I believe. With just a slip on or axle back muffler you are paying just for sound and not performance. I want most out of my money so mid pipe it is.

stock catback is perfect, I just went with catless downpipes, no smell, sounds good. Aftermarket tips.

I was hoping you would try the Dinan muffler with the the stock mid section but replacing the secondary cats with resonators/mufflers. Folks on the forum said it helps to remove the rasp and give it a deeper note. Combined with the Dinan muffler it could be a winner. That’s what I’m thinking for my m3
I’d try it but it’s way too much work. I’m happy with it...for now :)

Looks Great Tommy! I’m finally getting around to ordering my carbon fiber exterior pieces. I will most likely go oem as I’m pretty strict about fit and having to do minimal drilling or anything. Great video keep up the great work.

I debated long time on which exhaust to go with.. I went with AA mid pipe and dinan rear. It sounds pretty decent to me. I bought the dinan used at half price so it made it easier lol. Surprisingly, I think I'd rather have a remus mid pipe vs AA cause I like the rasp!! haha

Another great video. I have the black Cyba tip and agree, the shape is perfect but the colour blends. Aggressive though.
I’ve still not fitted my AA midpipe and may sell it on, with a secondary decat, modified resonator and rear box, the bootmod3 stage 1 map makes it sounds beautiful!
I didn’t know they made black tips. I think I prefer silver. Maybe black with no diffuser ?
Tommy after much deliberation, reviews, videos and feedback, I have pulled the trigger today and ordered a Remus axle-back exhaust which I will link up with my current aa mid pipe. I have heard pretty much all of them in person and this setup sounds the best to me both in and out of the cockpit. I am finally retiring the active Autowerke signature exhaust after this weekend!🥳🥳
This will be my second aftermarket exhaust so I am looking forward to the new setup! I will be sure to fill you in on my thought on its “quirks and features” 🤪🧐

Tommy, I like the vid. Can you do a vid on how to remove all of those leaves that accumulate behind the bumper in front of the radiator grille? I know a lot of people have this issue as it’s hard to access. My dealership wanted to charge me to remove them. Your input would be great.🤙

One of my buddy’s got a gthaus midpipe, kept the competition muffler and was castles and it was SO loud and sounded good but still pretty raspy

Remus and AA midpipe sounds great in person. Deep and not too loud or raspy. Wish they made this engine sound like the N54 :/

Lord have no mercy. No way! The N54 sounds horrible imo. I like the sound of the N55 with any setup better than the N54. However, the M Performance exhaust sounds phenomenal on the S55.

I keep thinking about tinkering with the exhaust. Do you need a tune to replace the mid pipe or down pipes? My car has the standard back box at the moment and just want to make it sound a bit nicer.

You have no idea what your missing out on with the MPE in person it’s perfect I completely agree very exhaust system besides for MPE is trash the MPE with a K&N air intake is my setup love hear ing the turbos and burbles from the MPE, I’m thinking about getting a mid pipes or possibly fabspeed downpipes next
Yup. MP is indeed the best but way too expensive for me
I disagree car is amazing with this exhaust system yes you might have to roll down windows but it’s amazing hands down best car I’ve owned it’s so raw when in this state. I agree any other system has like this raspy shunned tone and sounds awful I couldn’t live with it. But the MPE is amazing I would highly recommend it, it really is that much different.
As much as you’ve switched exhausts you could have bought one lol money well spent I couldn’t live without it no joke Car would feel lame and boring without it, try to get a used one it is worth it trust me, you don’t know what your missing lol.
Unrelated question, I am digging your short wall shelves in your garage. I also have a 1 car garage, did you make it or did you buy it? If so where? Thanks man! Great vids as always.
Thanks! I made those myself. It was easy because they sit on the cinderblock section of the wall. I cut pieces of board to size and that’s it.
Tommy, I have waited for you to do all the experimenting on your F80. I've decided I will probably do the same exhaust mods you have. The Active AutoWerks midpipe, keep the stock muffler and change out the tips. So, some advice....I think I know the answer, but what are your thoughts? Do you think I NEED to do the tune, or can/should I keep the stock tune? No intake mods done yet except the K&N drop ins. FYI, I dont have the competition pkg. Also, I have the stock diffuser.
Keep it stock if you can. These cars don’t need more power. I got a tune to eliminate cold start and adjust my rev matching b

They are meant to be very good and the dry carbon and titanium tips look brilliant
I’ve always thought that the best way to better the sound on the S55 engine is to change turbo manifolds or convert the car to a single turbo. DocRace has a kit.
For that effort I might as well get a new car

Gorgeous Colour on the M3 would have to disagree yes you won’t sound like a c63 but the armytrex exhaust the by far the best sounding if you include the down pipes i.e. a complete system. it’s expensive but well worth it

Have you ever changed the downpipes?? Or only mid pipe and back? If you add new downpipes you will get an even better sound..
I don’t wanna mess with downpipes because I like to have catalytic converters in place

Should we be putting loctite on the screws ? Just afraid the vibration will cause the screws to loosen.

The m3 is a great all rounder M car we could also consider the M5 which is much bigger and faster but I would use the m3 as my daily driver

I think those new tips definitely complete the look of the car, stainless tips are perfect choice especially when carbon diffusers are around (black + black don't really work that well in my opinion). Also, when you see it in real person, a "double sided" stainless steel with some thickness to it (like yours) look perfect rather than thin tinfoil type of tips, those tinfoil thin tips look so cheap after driving 2~3 days and carbon residue start accumulating around em.

Hi Tommy, great video as always, I learned a lot about this platform by watching your videos. Would you please help me out with something? I'm currently looking into buying a used f80 M3 but I'm not sure if it'll fit through my tiny garage door that measures some 88 inches. Now I checked the exterior dimensions and the width is quoted at 74 inches but I'd need the measurement mirror to mirror when folded just to double check if it'll fut before committing to a $40k purchase. What is the width of your garage door from this video? Looks pretty similar to mine. I wish someone with f80 M3 would stop by so I could figure this out with an actual car and not just by type measure. I had b8 Audi S4 before and it was a tight fit and that car was 72 inches wide. Thanks in advance.

Dinan has a deeper tone and it sound more “airy” as in the flow is heard more. Hard to explain. But not worth the cost over ZCp

I must say I like your videos. And you happen to be a lovely down to earth funny guy lol. I have a 2017 lci bmw M4 competition with full factory m performance carbon fibre bodystyling and side decals. It's an absolute beauty. I actually like the sound of the exhaust stock but I'm sure the m performance exhaust would make it even more perfect, but at near £2.5k cost here in UK I can't justify it lol. So I have replaced my rear stock tips to m performance carbon ones and it looks great. Anyway, I'm sure I can give your M3 a run for its money in terms of looks lol.

Only 3? 😂 I went through 6 on my widebody 86. Its so hard to find the perfect sound. Now im looking to get a M3/M4, thanks to you ill save alot of money on exhaust and get the best setup you have 😭 really love the content keep up the f80 videos!

Remus muffler and AA midpipe are said to go well together.
My M3 CP is stock and the exhaust sound is terrible just a bit better than my previous base non CP M3.

Exhaust tips look great! Changing the exhaust so many times, ehhh that sucks but I admire your dedication! The whole stimulated exhaust sound through the sound system trend needs to end, after the manufacturers apologize for this travesty! lol.. We want the real engine sound!

It sucks cause I feel like the exhaust note is the worst of any turbo i6 past or present but otherwise the motor is one of the better i6’s ever made.

I used to not like F80 sound. Got a valve remote and MPE best money spent on this car - I like that the F80 sound is unique TBH, but I have other cars... and I want them all to sound differently. F80 is a raspy/noisy note when you want it to be.
