2021 Clemson vs South Carolina Football: The Godfather Part VII

- On November 27, 2021, the Clemson Tigers resumed their birthright privileges when it comes to ownership of both the South Carolina Gamecocks and the burned out industrial park they call Williams-Brice Stadium. The Gamecocks avoided an all time thrashing in 2020 when Covid restrictions interrupted the Palmetto Bowl series, but there was nowhere to hide in 2021 once the Tigers descended upon the unwashed masses in Columbia. While many pundits and Gamecock fans saw a legitimate opportunity to break the six game stranglehold that Clemson lorded over the fighting Shane Beamers, reality proved to be quite the slap in the beak for the chickens, as Dabo Swinney unleashed a 30-0 beatdown that was worse than even the score itself indicated.
In what would prove to be Brent Venables' swan song on the Tiger sideline, Clemson notched its first shutout in the rivalry since 1989's epic 45-0 skunk job. Just as Danny Ford did that cold November night in 1989, Brent Venables punctuated his ownage of the Gamecocks in style, having surrendered a mere 3 points in his final 8 quarters of the rivalry, all of which took place in a rapidly evacuated Williams-Brice due to the schedule quirk. Whether it was the FCS transfer or the grad assistant, South Carolina's QBs quickly discovered the difference between facing Clemson's defensive front as compared to mediocre Florida and Auburn squads. The Gamecocks rushed for a whopping 43 yards, as Clemson's front seven, led by Tyler Davis, James Skalski, and Myles Murphy, totally overwhelmed the hapless Carolina offensive line. The passing game didn't fare much better, as Andrew Booth showed once again why he is one of the best Clemson cornerbacks of all time while snaring two interceptions.
Tony Elliott, no stranger to beatdowns in Willy B himself as a participant in 2003's infamous 63-17 massacre, similarly ended his Clemson run on a high note while overseeing a physically punishing offensive performance. The Clemson RB tandem of Will Shipley, Kobe Pace, and Phil Mafah all notched touchdowns on the ground while running behind an improved offensive line that was determined to dominate an overhyped S-E-C defensive line filled with 5 star busts who brilliantly chose to waste their potential in the everlasting dumpster fire that is South Carolina football. Despite missing several starting receivers, Clemson moved the ball through the air just enough to keep the chains rolling, and deadeye kicker BT Potter was true on each of his booming field goal attempts.
As Don Munson noted the familiar sight of tail lights leaving Williams-Brice early, the remaining Clemson fans saluted another outstanding effort by a Clemson team that gelled down the stretch of its regular season, enabling the eventual continuance of 11 straight seasons with at least 10 wins. Much to the chagrin of delusional cock fans and SEC network homers, Dabo Swinney demonstrated once again how large the chasm is between the programs. Despite missing upwards of 20 players from the original two deep, Clemson dominated in every facet while netting the first shutout in the series in three decades. Clemson now owns a 72-42-4 advantage in the series, and the same trashbag fans who once ran to social media with their five-bomb pictures now find themselves running to Dawn Staley for cover in the face of the ongoing hell that Dabo Swinney has unleashed on them. Cryin' Shane Beamer, like every coach before him in Columbia, was reduced to talking about hurt locker rooms and recruiting trips while Clemson fans everywhere savored the here and now for a 7th straight game.

Imagine what it would have been like without all of the injuries for the 2021 Season. Clemson got hit with the injury bug hard and still finished the season 10-3 with a 30-0 win over the in-state rival. A ton of true freshmen had to play WR, RB, and in the trenches on both sides of the ball due to injuries. Clemson will have a truck load of depth entering the 2022 season should everyone remain healthy.
