For some reason I just adore the scene on the road when they first meet Ares. The way they peek out from behind the rocks and go back down again. It's so silly 😅😅

Physical comedy always gets me. This whole episode was shot to perfection. Something important was always happening, never lingering on anything too long. Just so well executed at every level!
I agree, that first interaction with Ares was... dare I say... godly? 🤣

Funny enough they were just trying not to get seen by anyone who'd turn them in to the police. Trying not the be seen. But kid logic makes their actions seem quite childlike which I love.

In the original Ares quest in the book. While he is giving the quest we hear Percy's inner thoughts mentioning that just being in Ares presence just reminds him of every bully he has ever known, and Gabe combined. He feels pissed while talking to him. And he says he has a feeling Aries revels in the fact he can make Percy react this way. Like a magical aura that inspires anger and fighting.
Also while yes the quest takes place in the water park. The traps were different. In the book they had to avoid a golden net. Hephaestus also installed a lot of cameras around to record the trap going off. Basically the golden net can capture a god. So he was planning to capture Ares and Aphrodite having fun in the tunnel ride and broadcasting them trapped to all of Olympus to embarrass them. When Percy and Annabeth escape the net. He looks at the cameras and Percy yells something like "I hope we entertained all of you!" Because all the gods were watching them. And doing nothing to help.
But I like the idea of Hephaestus using the chair he made for Hera instead. It hits harder. And seeing Percy showing his self sacrificing personality this early in the show is amazing. Makes him more endearing.
The idea that the chair was warm and wouldn't allow him to move. And he is being encased in gold. A god would live from that, if a god is encased like that no problem it won't kill them. But Percy knew as a half mortal he would most likely die if he wasn't saved. He'd die of starvation at the very least. He didn't know how long he'd be in there or if it'd kill him slowly or not.
Also Grover went with them and didn't have a talk with Ares that was added. But honestly I like it because it gives Grover his own little quest while the other two retrieve the shield. So the fact he has an idea who did this from talking to Ares is very intriguing as a book reader because they didn't really question Ares. A different change but an interesting on. I can't wait to see what Grover says next episode. Because us book readers have no idea.

When Ares mentioned the Twitter fights, I immediately thought about the comment from your episode 4 reaction and chuckled. I'm glad it's now canon that the god of war himself is the social media gremlin that makes you want to rip your hair out

I like how Ares made everyone angry and agressive arround him. (In the book he has an aura of anger) but it doesn't work on Grover, a vegetarian satyre.

I loved listening to you talk about Grover bc it's something that the books take quite a while to show, but that is also important about him: his empathy is his strength. In fact, everything that could be a weakness is where they find strength. Grover was clearly bothered by violence, but he swallows that and lets his empathy speak louder in the conversation with Ares.
Meanwhile, Annabeth, daughter of the goddess of wisdom and one who used to be proud of putting logic, plans and winning above everything, puts her heart first and that's what makes Hephaestus let Percy go.
For Percy, he believes he is in disadvantage for going to camp too late and not being used to how the gods work, however as Annabeth says, that's his strength: being different.

I love those strong themes playing out in this story. It's one thing to entertain, but it's quite another to plant the seeds to recognize ways we, the audience, can better ourselves as a result. It just makes the whole experience so worthwhile!

i love how the show expands on all the kids' personalities tbh. the book is in percy's pov and he doesnt exactly see himself the way everyone else does, so in the show we get to see him from an outside perspective and it expands his character a lot. and of course we get to see stuff we wouldnt have otherwise like grover being on his own and kinda manipulating a god! or annabeth grappling with the way she was raised in this godly environment and not being exactly what she wants. i love how the show completes their book counterparts honestly

    As for the grover/ares interaction,
Dont forget, the book was 100% a Percy POV, he wasnt in the diner

I'm going to go right on out and say we manifested Ares on social media (even if this was filmed way in advance). That was a genuinely great moment!
Ah, yeah, you're right. It flows so naturally and is so well written I just assumed it was part of the already existing story. That's actually even better!
These must be really nice and welcome additions for the book readers then!

I gotta say I spend alot of time watching reaction videos and rarely am I able to find someone that will take this much out of the content they are watching so everytime I find someone like you I automatically sub I love how well you are able to look past the surface level and breakdown the episodes not even reactors that have read the books get this much out of it I hope that we get to see your channel sky rocket I know I will be here for it. I could say alot more but I do not need to write a book in your comments lmao 🤣🤣

By all means, feel free to write at your leisure! I'm often checking and replying to comments while I'm on the exercise bike (like now), so it makes for a great distraction!
I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction! I tend not to watch a lot of other reaction channels because I never want to be influenced and emulate their way of doing things.
I'm not really out to make a reaction channel, but instead, share my reactions to stories and adventures that resonate with me.
I'm always so thankful for the people who decide to join me on this journey!
I really try to share my appreciation for a good story. Even though some people call it analysis, I tend to think of it as purely "appreciation."
How are you enjoying Percy Jackson and the Olympians?
I can't wait to see where this story takes me next!
      Enjoy the weekend!

It's interesting you made the comparison between both Grover and Luffy! I completely skipped over that empathy asepct of Grover's character during this scene, I won't lie. But I suppose it makes sense that Grover has become my favourite from the live action of Percy Jackson. Luffy is my favourite, after all. I love that these two great stories have overlapping parts, even if at first glance they're worlds apart. Very excellent reaction, even if I'm still watching it. I love your insight on Ares' actor's performance! He absolutely stood out to me too. He sold the whole "war-hungry" aspect of Ares' character really well, with his crazy eyes and red face. Great casting choice. Also, really loving your opnions on the writing choices of the show, always awesome to hear a different perspective.

I'm so glad to hear you are enjoying the reactions! I'm absolutely loving the journey the show has sent me on.
But I won't lie to you... I am always working through some intense nerves before I sit down to record. I never know why. I think it's because I recognize how important this show is to so many, and how I want to help elevate that appreciation with my enjoyment. It can feel like a lot, until I shrug it off and realize that the journey is about having fun.
      Every. Reaction.
      Not just Percy Jackson.
But I couldn't ask for such incredible communities to surround myself with, and the wonderful encouragement and conversation my reactions can foster, such as your amazing comment.
Thank you so much for taking your time to join me on this journey! It means the world to me!

@@NoxiddarHaving nerves for this doesn't surprise me. You are showing your face, your thoughts, and reactions, to thousands and opening the gate for potential hate. But, regardless, I've always favoured reactors who take a more in-depth analysis of the media, rather than just gasping at cool fights scenes or shocking betrayals. Not that those are less legitimate reactions, but Percy Jackson's world building and its character building is so interesting to analyse, that it's a miss to not explore. So, it's always fun to listen to another person's opinion on the matter.
Personally, from what I've seen, you've cultivated a group of people who are interested your thoughts and opinions, so you truly shouldn't worry about "not delivering" or "disappointing" fans. No reaction is the right one.
      Thanks for your reactions!

    • @Noxiddar
      @Noxiddar  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

@ashesyebs4404 Thank you so much. I can't begin to tell you how encouraging this was to read.
I tend not to think of what I do as an analysis. To me, that always sounds like someone using some kind of expertise. I tend to think of it more as appreciation.
Maybe it's because of my temperament, or that I've been in education for years, but I've always felt that when you allow yourself to appreciate things, you often show your genuine expression, and your authentic self.
I do tend to think there is some vulnerability on display there as a result. I'm not too worried if people don't like what I'm doing or are being "haters," but I think allowing yourself to be vulnerable in general is nerve rattling.
Ultimately, my goal is to make videos I can look back on and enjoy and remember what it was like to capture those first-time feelings. But also, to remember what I had to say, and what I wanted to share.
Every video becomes part of a time capsule.
I decided long ago that I would make videos for me. Ever since I was a little kid, wandering the forests of Washington alone with just my dog and a stick for a sword, I've always entertained myself.
To me, that is my center that I try to return to.
But I would be lying if I didn't acknowledge it is beyond exciting to be able to share all of this with so many.
I am humbled by the incredible communities I have dipped my toes into, and that has been so accommodating and welcoming.
I made a video about what my dream is, since it's such a strong theme in One Piece, and mine was to entertain the world. I used to think that meant being funny, but now, in my late 30s, I'm learning that it truly means to show appreciation. Leaving someone with appreciation, whether from a good story, a good thought, or a good joke.
And this whole reaction thing... it's going to make for one great story. 😀
Thank you for being part of that
      I appreciate you! 🙏

Love your on point read on Grover's character. What you said is very accurate to the books because Grover is the most emphatetic satyr. Even though he appeared to be timid at first, he always still try for his friends and in the end found his own strength and used that in his future quest (spoiler kinda). So for you to read on that even though you haven't read the books meant they are doing amazing adapting his character into the screen.
21:44 You ok, man? I thought my screen lagged or something.

Hahaha! So I think I was trying to say "continue this conversation down in the comments," and I couldn't think of conversation. I caught myself saying continue again, and then my brain broke. Then I rolled a hard 1, critical failure, on my second attempt.
I loved how the beat drop matched my brain drop so I kept it in. I always try to tell people that I don't make perfect videos, I just aim to make videos that perfectly represent me. And sometimes, the brain fog of war takes over. 🤣
And I agree, the characters have strong thematic personalities while also having arcs and growth of their own. I've really enjoyed just pressing pause and appreciating what I'm seeing. I never consider it analysis. I'm not smart enough to do that. But I can certainly appreciate brilliant writing and performances, and this story and show leave me with no shortage of that.
Appreciate you taking the time to leave your thoughts AND perform a wellness check. Haha. I appreciate you! 🙏

yeah it's not really touched on much, but in the book Percy is labeled as a domestic terrorist who attacked the arch, and its not till people witnessed him fighting Ares till the narrative changed and suddenly Percy is an innocent hero kidnapped by Ares and dragged across continental US
