I have only known of Mr. Musgrave since the Ken Burns' documentary. After having watched all episodes and watching/listening to several interviews with him, I am touched by his incredible humanity. I do believe the world is a better place with him in it. Thank you, John, for sharing who you are with us.

Imagine being in a country filled with people that want to savagely murder you and hate you. Then imagine how hard it must be to FORGIVE every single one of those soldiers, even the one that shot you, and recognizing their humanity in poetry for the rest of your life. I know if I didn’t hear men like this, and I had to fight in the war in vietnam, I don’t think I would be so quick to forgive. Men are shown by their love. Not their power. Live on forever Mr. Musgrave, you taught me so much and I never met you.
I to watched Ken Burns Vietnam episodes. "This is war: this is what we do". Like many people I was mesmerized by this young soldier John M. I'm very close to his age. He 100 percent had my attention. He made me want to be his friend. Thank you John.
John Musgrave comes across as a man you would want to know as your best friend. His genuineness comes from his heart and makes you want to share in his pain if it could reduce his suffering. He is a true hero giving an honest account of his time in service. His words are a testiment to all who fought and suffered in this war. Thank you sir for all you have given.
I hope John reads these as he is helping so many people through his experience. It’s clear he is such a remarkable man who speaks the truth in a genuine fashion.
I’ve known John for about 30 years from the annual Freedom Fest in Skidmore Missouri. I love this man. An extraordinary extemporaneous speaker with a vast knowledge of military history and a wonderful human being with a great sense of humor off the stage. His books are not an easy read-too dark and graphic for someone as sheltered as my life has been,but so powerful. Thanks John, it’s been a real pleasure to hear you speak and spend time with you at the farm.
Something about this guy is just so cool. He's like Shelby Foote in Ken Burns' "Civil War." The way he recounts his experience and articulates to the listener is so emotional and interesting. God bless you John

I read somewhere that in addition to poetry, he's also writing his memoirs and would love to read it when and if it's available.
I like poetry, and love Vietnam war history, it should be taught in school. I am humbled by Johns stories, if your reading this John you are a scholar and a patriot!
John I see no comments in awile, but I saw you on the pbs series, and you out of 9 series impacted me the absolute most. Your a man of course now in your 70's, but what a hell of a 19 year old Marine you were and still are. Your pure bravery, is just honestly, what I think about when at 55 and many back surgeries, I say this man who 99.9 percent would of died, but God thru u back to reach many. Gosh, I saw you speak about the squealhs and you can still see how fearful it was. Walk very tall, tell your story as much as you can, and know it does matter just as much as when you took a stand in DC all those years ago. The country has sure changed, but your guts and bravery is still intact. I know you went thru some dark as hell days when you got home. Im no genious, but I sure know your story saves a few that come home and have those blues. I probably will never meet you, but in my heart I feel I know you well. Pride, intelligence, and one hell of a ride you went thru, and for that I say thank you for service, and also for having the guts to tell your story. You have a million that admire you. Kevin

Thank you Mr. Musgrave. I was in the Marines from 1976 to 1980 active duty. I too saw death but myself was unscathed from injury. I became a physician. I have worked at 6 VA hospitals. I'm now ready to go back to the "VA SPA" to be with my brothers.

John's story is incredible I watched the Ken Burns series and was shocked ,amazed blown away. His honesty struck me the most I was crying like a babe when he told the story of how he was going to go ahead with it and the love of his dogs saved the day on one of the episodes. How can anyone know really who hasn't been in war. He is a credit to him self and fine man (human being).
First saw John in the outstanding Ken Burns documentary and was struck by his profound eloquence describing his experience in Vietnam and afterwards the man is a hero and an example to us all.
Wrong they're not heroes nor are they anyone's victim. They are a survivors of an American tragedy and got a 2nd chance at life. They were all chumps and pawns of their government. I tend to identify with the real heroes of the Vietnam war...those that resisted the Draft and Vietnam. That war had BAD and STUPID written all over it for everyone to see. Guys like him were pawns and sacrificial lambs...and a lot of wise veterans admit that. They (except maybe most draftees) enabled a dysfunctional American Government in its erroneous foreign policy. The people who resisted were the real American heroes.
I just finished his book, The Education of Corporal John Musgrave, excellent work. Very raw in its descriptions of Vietnam. Well worth the read. Art Blauvelt
Hi Chris, Thanks for sharing. How is John doing now? What an honest and loving ordinary human being. He is as human as can be. His pain is palpable and although I felt he hasn't fully dealt with his demons (though he claims he now has peace), he continues to live and share his experience as catharsis as well as a teachable moment for all of us. Truly remarkable.
Been looking for a formal way to connect with mr Musgrave. I am a huge fan! I wonder if he has a youtube channel. On facebook I found two profiles with his name and pictures but could be fake. Haven't tried twitter though.

I was a grunt in Viet Nam 1971. He tells the true story of the Nam. "There it is" We always said this. I had forgotten.
