I love seeing the footage of these millipedes. It helps to see them as we look into the different possible species. Good tips. I will be looking at more of his videos for other species.
you should make a video about how to deal with fungus gnats, prevention and what to do when there is already a problem especially in isopod terrariums!
I think the ivory millipede is a better pet because they're more surface active and therefore more visible, which is uncommon for millipedes and I think they look a bit cooler.
Hi! I just found your channel and I love it! Very informative and fun videos. I was wondering, I want to get some millimetres soon as pets, and I want multiple types. Could you do a video on co-habing different species of millipedes? Thanks!
Awesome video! I just ordered some with a millipede starter kit n everything, rlly looking forward to them! Your videos are really informative and cool :3
@@Aquarimax Sounds like a plan! I've been keeping polymorpha for many years, they're definitely one of my top favorite species to keep because of the coloration variants and their relatively docile behavior.

i find that yellow sticky fly traps put outside the tank can combat fungus gnats well, although it does take a while. also how long does it take for them to go from egg to adult
Hi, can a different sort of pellets be used or does it have to be pellets made from oak or alder? In my country we have pellets made of 80% hardwood and 20% softwood. Thanks alot!
Hey! Been watching your channel for awhile now and I've started a 16 Quart container for 'pedes! I've mixed Leafgro Organic compost and Scott's premium topsoil, along with sphagnum moss, apsen shavings, and hardwood leaves. Am I missing anything? And also, those two soils do not mention containing any fertilizers but I wanted to make sure with an expert before putting living organisms in there! Thank you
And also can I have an update on the fly control mosquito bits stuff? Still working? And is it efficient with all the millipede species you own? Thanks again
Dagan Hunt sounds like a pretty good mix to me...I would add the soaked oak or alder pellets if you can get them. I have not tried the mosquito bits with every species. It seems to work best in weekly doses.
@@Aquarimax I have a thread of my setup and updates on Arachnoboards under the username DaganH!! Hi! I wanna ask some questions which i hope you'll understand- for i'm not english speaking naturally, i'm from Hungary. I have some Spirostreptus sp.1-s. I have them since last year they were smaller when i bought them. I saw them SO rarely after putting them into the terrarium that i often digged them up- just to see if they are still alive?! I KNOW, you SHOULDN'T do THAT- but i was really worried that they are no more alive! They were of course O.K., so after a while i just let them be didn't dig anymore... Now that they are a bit older, they come up much often to the surface and i can watch them eat and crawling around. My question is: is that normal that you cannot see them often while younger? They just hide and molting the whole time...? Second question. I think their soil is not enough deep it's not even 10 centimeters....so i'd like to give them more but i have NO IDEA when there is some animals molting! Should i take them all out while giving more substrate or can i just put it on the old one- will they not suffocate...? Well that are my questions, thanx if you can answer them!
That was basically the same as my experience with these millipedes (and some other species too…) they are secretive when young and more active on the surface as adults. You can add depth to the substrate gradually. If you just add 1 cm on top every few days, that should be fine.
I've thought these guys were neat ever since seeing them in a video of yours a year or two ago, but I wasn't able to find anyone selling them when I looked a while back. What sort of calcium powder do you add in? Do you feel it works better than something like cuttlebone (what I've got for my isopods right now)?
I have experience mainly with Mosquitp Bits and millipedes, I know someone who has used mosquito bits with many of her isopods for over a year with great success!
We got these guys a month ago. I saw them a few times on surface in the beginning but haven't seen them for 2 weeks they haven't even touched the food I put in. They are young ones only 5cm. Are they okey? Moulting or not liking the place?
@@Aquarimax Yea my substrate is oak pellets, coco coir, hickory chips and for leaves I have Magnolia and Mulberry leaves which they love alot. The Purple footed milipede seem to be thriving no babies but no deaths and the smokey oak had one death out of 13 but they seem to be thriving for the last 6 months. Ivories on the other hand not so well I have like 4 alive but use to have 15 idk what I'm doing wrong I remember some would lay eggs but no babies
i keep thai rainbows, narceous americanus and now spirospreptus species 1, but never had any luck with ivories, i have bought 20, 2 lots of 10 and they never survived completely, i ended up with 1 alive and 1 baby( who is still alive in the narceous americanus tank) the baby thats alive was captive bread and bought as a baby (i think wild caught ivories dont do well from my experience.
It still fascinates me how they can manage (in such perfect harmony) all those legs! so cool. Thanks again Rus.

What about land hermit crabs?

can I microwave my substrate like wood bits from yard prior to adding to millipedes?
I have not used a microwave for that purpose, I would be concerned about the wood caching fire...
