Fantastic, a new Book Club episode. This has been such a fun series of videos. Has Mira been sucked in to the 40k maelstrom? I'm looking forward to the next Book Club video.
I forget the name but ADB's Grey knights book follows up in a small way some of the plot threads from Ravenor, could be a good filler choice, its an excellent book!
@@Alittlefruitgoesalongway Emperor's Gift and I think he's mentioned in Angron the Red Angel. You're not going to be looking for a character called Zael though
Please read Magos next, especially because you haven’t read it before. I was sceptical before going into it because of all the short stories but in the end, I thought that it was the best Eisenhorn novel and the perfect final piece to Eisenhorn’s character arc.
Makes me think of the song they made us sing in School Assembly back in the '80s (Sings) #......One More step along the dark path I go, more and more about the dark path I know.....And its from the old I travel to the new......#
Love it. You guys are doing a fantastic job. I need to go back and read them all again. I find I've forgotten a lot of details. Btw, is it *majos* or *magos*? I'd have thought the latter, purely from instinct.
Hi Ian, love listening to you two. It is like talking/listening to two mates of twenty years about a passionate subject. Can't believe you haven't read Magos yet.. it's a great book and ties up at lot of loose ends with the Eisenhorn series, get it read; You won't regret it. :)
Re chaos getting everyone in the end: there was the Gaunt goes to occupied planet, gets wormy, comes back and finds a bunch of cannibals hanging out in the kitchen detail thing. And ends up back in charge of his regiment, possibly because plot armour.
I thought that the feeling of pathos / melancholy in the Magos was fantastic. The feeling of a life crushed in the gears of larger events. Also - in the Ravenor audiobooks - the way that the voice used for Orfeo Culzean is basically a Boris Johnson impression is superb. Toby Longworth is a legend.
I saw this book back in the eighties when I was a little kid at least the cover picture I was coming home from 7th grade and there's a comic book shop and the cover of the book was on the front bookshelf a million years later I finally get to read this book when I was a kid I always said I want this tattoo so I have the ravener Inquisition symbol Tattoo on the side of my head.love this book
“Ravenor Unravelled” feels like a promising bit. Perhaps he could use his mad psyched chops to card wool? I’d there are sheep In m41. And get deeply frustrated because his agent keeps badgering him publishing deadlines.
Adding time travel always felt like like a really bad idea, simply because it can only lead to wasted potential. I'm not sure why none of the characters at least suggest they could go back in time and stop the Horus Heresy or something like that. It would be easy to insert a line about the Ordo Chronos warning against time travel for... reasons. Still wasted potential, but at least it's something. And I feel like we haven't seen the last of Zygmunt Molotch, because his off-screen death was pretty anticlimactic, and he seemed really interested in that door. Just a hunch. I'm pretty sure there's also a slight timeline error, because Ravenor has no idea what tyranids are, while Uber Aemos was quite familiar with them. Maybe I'm misremembering things, and it's not really important, but it's something that stuck with me.
Bear in mind that the Horus Heresy is at this point of time basically a hazy mythological age where all of the big players were basically demigods and barely anything is known by ordinary Imperials (all historical accounts are either destroyed, or unreliable and patchy propaganda written long after the fact). The idea of going back to the Great Crusade and having any impact at all on proceedings would be impossible to Ravenor and co.
Can't wait for GW to release their licensed tie in cosmetic line with their flagship product: Ravenor Rouge
You two bring such positivity to my life! Keep being you!
Mira casually dropping a Vic Reeves Big Night Out reference was both unexpected and delightful!
man with the Stick!
I love Mira’s plot overviews with all the pop culture references scattered in :D
The Magos is really good. I can't wait.

Entertaining review! If you want more Zale he shows up again in The Emperor's Gift by Aaron Dembski-Bowden.
Hyperion

The Emperor's Gift
Zael has a huge story. So the book is just the start.
Yep. And this is putting it mildly... ahem... Armageddon... ahem....
Yeah, he's got some serious super powers. Sword breaker!

Re the question at 30:45 - I think there IS an Ordo that acts like an Inquisitorial ‘internal affairs’
Love these reviews! Very curious about the angry 80's popular and talking racoon now though!
I like that if Mira had the power of enuncia she’d use it for tea
😂 fact

To be fair, we are mates of about 16 years so...
HYPERION!
Eisenhorn Started off with kind of a Russell Crowe voice in my head in Xenos. In Mallious it was Brian Blessed By Hereticus it was Matt Berry.
I like to imagine the overwhelming majority of Custodes sound like Matt Berry.
did anyone got Oll Persson's journey through space and time vibes from Wych house doors part?

Love these videos. Great stuff
My local book stores stopped stocking any GW books sadly, no idea why so I’ve not read any in ages.
EBay is good for second hand treasures :)

Eisenhorn, I loved every bit. Ravenor bit slower, but enjoyable nonetheless. Great spacescape.
He never uses the vile because there's nothing in it. 😆
Don't forget there is a whole other unpublished final bequin yet to read!

I am Alpharius
I’m such a Neanderthal, sexist, chauvinist. All I can think is, “Ian, if you don’t marry Mira, I will!” (as if she’d have either of us 😢)
