    Great introduction by Mark, his intros always added to films on C4 and film 4 used to add a lot years agao. Remember him hosting a season of cult films in the run up to New Year 2002 called "No Sleep till New Year" first time I saw Freeway which has now become a favourite of mine.

    Send death threats to someones family because you don't approve of their violent film, brilliant.

      In modern times, Tom Six has received death threats for his first "Human Centipede" movie. ) And remember, Pier Paolo Pasolini himself was killed, and some people speculated his death/killing came over his most notorious last movie "Salo or the 120 Days of Sodom" (1975), though unconfirmed.

      And yes, it does SHOW that we, as human beings, are often incredibly sensitive when it comes to movies.

    • @alexanderdahoola8188
      @alexanderdahoola8188 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In addition to this I kinda wonder, was Pier Paolo Pasolini REALLY killed BECAUSE of him making his notorious last film "Salo or the 120 Days of Sodom" (1975) or was there another motive behind his murder? You mean - someone was THAT offended at his movie enough to ACTUALLY kill him??

    This introduction by Mark was also my first introduction to the genius that was Stanley Kubrick. To say his work has had a profound impact on my life is an understatement.

    "Dreadful fashion sense of a bunch of wanna-be rockers like David Bowie" - sorry but Bowie, RIP, has always been a mega talented and multi-influential musical legend, I wonder why he said it like that as if talking about some pop idol, and not many people I know complained about his fashion sense either.

    Barry Lyndon was ground breaking on a technical side. The Shining is a fascinating film, with some incredible scenes...willed into greatness. Spartacus, 'Can I get my check and will you fund my next film, please' - Kubrick, Path's of Glory is standard lambs to the slaughter stuff, with a beautiful girl singing emotionally wile being taunted to incite sentimentality. I mean, 'Goodfellas' has a scene with people getting misty over someone singing, it wasn't the greatest part of the film.

    One of the life altering moments in my life wa my first viewing of A Clockwork Orange on HBO over twenty five years ago. I couldn't grasp the true "meaning" of the film and enjoyed the more visceral aspects but now appreciate the many layers beneath the gloss. Kubrick's genius was to bury subversive ideas under these very bright and deceptive images, which hooked the eye and planted those seeds. I still have yet to fully understand the film which is what distinguishes the great from mediocre.

    Interesting. It would seem the banning of the film gave it a notoriety that prob contributed a great deal to its fame and later, love. Had it never been so hated I doubt it would have ever been l so loved.

    Well, feel free to begin anywhere you like, as that last comment you wrote is totally useless, faux-smug patheticness.
    My comment represents my personal opinion on Kubrick's oeurve, so I'm afraid it isn't "wrong", any more than your non-existent rebuttal could be "right".
    A Clockwork Orange is like Carry On Kubrick, Barry Lyndon is inept and boring, Full Metal Jacket contains the line "Let's get some payback!", and Eyes Wide Shut is...
    To be honest, I just wanna forget.

  • @terratrema
    @terratrema 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    "His greatest work..."
    A Clockwork Orange is a dreadful piece of tripe.
    ...Well, maybe that's a bit rough, but I strongly disagree with the idea that A Clockwork Orange even closely compares to such works of brilliance as The Killing, Paths of Glory, Spartacus, Lolita, Dr Strangelove, 2001 or The Shining.
    Perhaps it is better than Fear and Desire (never seen it), Killer's Kiss (ditto), Barry Lyndon (utterly pointless), Full Metal Jacket (stupid) or Eyes Wide Shut (a shameful embarrassment).
