How Much Does It Cost To Sail In Mexico? - Ep. 169 RAN Sailing

- Hola Mexico! Join us as we sail to Mexico, a country we’ve never been to before and talk you through the clearing procedure and how much it cost.
We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat Ran, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter in January 2016. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us.

You guys gotta get some bikes. With our little 26' sailboat we absolutely enjoy having bikes on our cruises. Life is better with a bike. Laundry, grocery shopping, movie theatres, restaurants are never too far on a bike. You can buy a trailer for the baby and can double as a cargo trailer for heavy propane bottles etc. 🙂
Mexico is a beautiful country with beautiful people. This was a wonderful episode and I think you two are a wonderful couple. As someone who has lived in San Diego, 1968 t0 2004 and visited Mexico countless time I have nothing but good things to say for Mexico and its' people. Thank you for sharing and I can't wait to hear about the birth of your daughter. She will have wonderful parents for sure.
yes it is, we can not wait to visit
Saludes from California! Im glad you had no issues with the Mexican Clearing houses. Sorry Yon had to walk and carry the propane tank, so long of a walk. Wow he has muscles! :) Ultrasound= big smiles= baby looks healthy. Hasta la vista mis amigos! Til we see you again! :)
I love cruising in Mexico. The people there are always so generous with what little they have, and seem happy.
The two of you really are a delight!
Welcome to Mexico, I'm an American ExPat living here now going on 5 years. I hope your experiences here are as happy as mine.
Wow!
I am so happy for you both
The sonogram made me smile in a BIG way!!
My two boys are now in their twenties, making their own way in the world, but seeing the ultrasound images brought it all back, and it felt like yesterday and brought a tear to my eye. Truly having kids is a singularly amazing experience. Thanks!
Your video was very informative, ...Malin was so funny talking about brushing up on her Spanish. My wife said, You have been here Your whole life, and still working on Your English. :) Wishing you three all the best, we can't wait to see your little girl.
Thank you, Thank you to the 3 of you now, I love it, you are like a family member that we add to our selves, & it won't be long & number 3 will be with us all.
Cheers & all the best from OZ again..
I just love you guys, always smiling and happy. Johan you are so very calm and patient.
You are just glowing Malin as can be seen when you get your results of the ultrasound, and Johan you look so proud. 😃😃
Your pregnancy glow is absolutely beautiful on you. I wish the two of you the best with your choice of a new home on sea.
Thank you for taking us with you wherever you go. It is the next thing to being there with you.
Wow, Ensenada has really grown!!! Isn't a sleepy little fishing village anymore. Dang!
Love you guys! I'm looking forward to seeing your new boat, and more importantly, the birth of your daughter.
I don’t think they’ll be documenting the birth 🤔
Great video! We are going to be starting our adventure South soon, leaving from BC, Canada. Great information in your video. Subscribed and will be watching more!
lol, totally normal and chill dolphin surfacing at 2:57, just an average sail!!!
Just a beautiful vlog ✨💯✨💕✨😊✨. You Both are such at peace with the world. Setting a fabulous example. ✨ ⛵️⚓️🥂✨
Thanks Richard! :-)
I had a friend that bought a 55’ boat in Encinada. They call it the 90 day club, as the Californians use it to dodge the high sales taxes. I spent 5 days on his boat over the new year of 1998. Loved the laid back culture!
I can't help myself but ask what podcasts you listen to? Can't wait to see you on your new boat....all 3 of you😁
love mexico
I’m so happy for you two. And can not wait to see your baby girl. 💕
I am glad you guys dont do the diving stuff.... you guys are growing fast to be my nr1 sailing channel!
Geerts from Antwerp
you are both two of our most favorite sailors. We can't wait to meet the third! Cheers and fair winds
New gas bottle was cheaper and most definitely safer! I've seen some pretty crazy attempts at adapting bottle connectors to transfer propane!! Wise choice!! Thanks for another great episode and for sharing the joyful pictures and smiles for your new little sailorette!!
DAWWWW!!! So excited for you guys. Amazing $7.50 in Mexico and $750 in US. That says it all right there how screwed up our medical system is here.
yes
At least half of the cost in the USA is due to lawyers. I know that there are times when the medical staff make mistakes, but here in the USA so many people are looking for a huge payday for every little error. We need to inject some common sense to our system before it becomes too expensive to use.
@@saxonsoldier67 Can't just blame lawyers. It's greed... American style. The kind of greed that becomes a religion and an addiction. Pharma Bro and Theranos' Elizabeth Holmes are good examples of the Gordon Gecko unrelenting pursuit of profit at any cost. And politicians like Moscow Mitch are their bitch to keep the system rigged against the common folk.
@@oceandrew That's why I was ONLY blaming half the cost on lawyers and the people that use them. The example of the sonogram cost in this video is a bit extreme. 1/100th the cost. Most examples that I have seen have been closer to 1/10th. We can all agree that we pay the most for the least here in the USA. A free market solution is best. Prices listed clearly ahead of time so that we can shop around for the best deal. End corporate cronyism that prevents us from paying the price for medication that people in other nations pay.
Wait a minute.... you mean that the U.S. doesn’t have the greatest health care system on the planet? Someone better tell the rich Republicans because they are sure it is perfectly proper to have single mothers shopping over the counter for medications for their children. Doctors and medical technology are overrated. LOL.
A big thumbs-up happy for you both enjoy Mexico enjoy your time there I'm glad you enjoyed your time in the US
As usual, an informative and entertaining video from Malin and Johan. Great, accurate information on check-in for Mexico. All is well in Ensenada. The potted plant is thriving. Orchento's and Da Toni's are still serving great food. Think about you "three" often, every time we see Ran... Best on boat hunting and baby delivery!
Thanks! :-)
very nice and calm video , Love it. Johan the bottles of Leffe have only one connection :P i wish you a nice weekend and stay safe. glad to hear thats everything is ok with the Baby.
Propane connectors are very troublesome no matter where you are. On the land side, if you want to put a larger tank, 100 LBS., for your portable home generator........no one will do it......SO you get stuck with the little tanks. This episode made me not feel alone, Thank you!!!!
City skylines at dusk from the water are sure beautiful.
Nice to see baby 🍼 have fun in Mexico!
You look so happy with your baby girl soon to join you. Congratulations,,!
Great to know these things about checking into Mexico. This information is available, but you have to find it here and there and piece it together. You guys have done a great job in explaining it! We're sailing into the Sea of Cortez early next year, so now we know what to expect.
Great work thanks
Congratulations on the little one. :). Mexico! Outrageous how much their fees are. Propane was a great price. Food should be cheap too! Be safe and happy sailing!
Bicycles might be handy for some shore travel.
Sooooo nice to see your kids pics!!!
Jeez, I really felt for you guys carrying those LPG bottles the way you had to, they're a struggle on a short distance, surprised the marina doesn't refill them, cheers from AUS
Congats on your crew coming on board soon!!!
Another great video, your channel and Old Seadog are my favorite channels.
Mine too. I have watched many sailing videos over the years and now, it is just down to those two.
same here!
Cool new adventures, awesome video guys, can't wait to see the baby 😀
hoping all is well with you both, very best wishes
All is well! :-) Thanks for watching!
nice video guys.........good price!!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing another great video! Your content is so enjoyable. Stay safe. Peace.
Soon a very lucky little girl will be experiencing a very wonderful and exciting life :-)
So nice to see the ultra picture. Hope you find a good boat for here.
Happy hunting ,,,/),,,,
All the best for you friends !!
I have been watching ran 3 since it started. Where is the finished product?
Your daughter will be a lucky little lady. With Swedish, Spanish and English (that we know of) she will be at least tri-lingual and a true citizen of the world!. Be sure and stop in Puerto Vallarta. its a beautiful big bay and the Dorado fishing is incredible. Spent three months there back in 75 waiting for engine parts from Vancouver before we could sail south.
Good vid ya'll.
The sonogram cost difference is so upsetting as an American. Your travels are such an eye opener
If you would be willing to pay an extra $6,000 to $8,000 a year in taxes, we can have "free" healthcare in the USA. Healthcare is not free or cheap anywhere on earth. It is paid for with taxes that workers pay. Pick your preference and vote for it.
@@pavichapin I'd be willing to reduce the enormously bloated military budget by 75%.
Ensenada I wisited for 45 Years ago as a student. I Guess things have changed since then.
It is a bit sad to see Ran on marine traffic still lying in Ensenada.
Good luck with the new girl och välkomna till Sverige.
Tack Lars! Ja, det är såklart lite blandade känslor att sälja Ran. Men det blir en spännande tid framöver! :-)
Thanks for another great video. So good to see that the baby is doing well.⛵👫🤰🌬❄⛄
growing baby!
hope you the best
It's great to see the baby's progress on your Mexican ultrasound. I was wondering if your boat health insurance helped with the price?
Great vid guys hope all is well.
If you like the movie Top Gun with Tom Cruz, those Navy Jets were likely landing at Miramar in San Diego, widely depicted in the movie.
I've been there!
Prices are so reasonable in Mexico. I’d like to find out what Cuba pricing is like.
That pizza looked delicious
Did you have to show proof of insurance?
Thanks for the propane comments, it's really difficult to find out what "normal" is around the world!
Cheap scan. You both looked thrilled by the images. Exciting times.
Will there be a SpotWalla for the new boat ? :)
$7.50 for an ultrasound?! That’s fantastic! Based on your cruising experience so far, would you recommend to get health insurance or pay out of pocket?
That gas bottle must of been real heavy by the time you got back to the Marina
you, mi man, you are balls ! You are a gentleman!!!!
Hey, nice that you are still making videos. Guess there will be a well deserved break in a while?
One question, any idea what that white thing suddenly appearing on the right side of the screen horizon? Shows briefly at 5.56-5.57. Just curious.
Enjoy!
Whale spouts. There are actually two of them.
@@garysouza2277 I was not sure, but do think you are right. Thanks!
Did you guys see anyone using CNG for cooking fuel on boats in Mexico? Love the ultrasound pictures. Sorry it was so expensive in the US. Our health care system is broken. Again congratulations on your soon to be birth of your daughter. Best wishes.
Luna Sea Racing CNG had it's moment in the sun about forty years ago, I think.
I've lived aboard and cruised since '89 and I don't think I've seen a CNG galley more than three or four times.
When the Coast Guard decided that propane was ok aboard inspected vessels, lo these many years ago, CNG was history, literally.
I had CNG on a boat in 1989. Switched to propane because the #of thermal units you can store is much higher with a liquid fuel(LPG) as opposed to a compressed gas(CNG). We seemed to always be going to the store to exchange CNG tanks and it was more expensive.
Wow. Twins you haven't mentioned that.
No, not twins. :-) We're having one girl!
@@RANSailing hahaha yep. Just stirring
Congratulations on your escape from the U.S.A.
Wonder why it took so long for me to get ep 169 ? Thank you good luck.
Did you accidentally release the episode where you sold RAN or did I dream that I saw it? Would a Transpac 49' Mark II ketch 1986 listed at $174000 be of interest?
How many languages do each of you speak?
Dear viking, you should buy a Dracar.
Install auto-like plugin for chrome.
Congratulations! So happy for you, if you think the ultrasound was expensive, wait till she is about 10 years old... LOL #DaughtersAreExpensive
Compared to Mexico, How much $ was it to check into the USA?
If I remember correctly it's $19 for the cruising license, but on top we needed to pay for visas that costs around $200 per person. The visas are valid for 10 years though... :-)
Boattrader good deals U.S. boats - 1994 Mix 55' ketch $ 69,950 , 1986 Parker Bug Eye cc ketch$175, 1981 MAPLE LEAF 56 CC 120 FORD , 82 Van Dam 54' custom steel $99,5 .
I've crossed that same road in Ensenada. #survivor
😂
Mexico is a cool country great people and yummy foods. But like everywhere else crime can be a problem watch yourselves and be careful
How many languages do you know?
Did you get a fishing license? I've heard tales of folk being fined for having fishing gear onboard w/o license.
I follow you from your first videos and I know you, (Malin), are fluent in Spanish. How come you speak Spanish so well? I remember a video where you met with your mom, I think was in Portugal and I think she spoke Spanish as well. Am I correct ??? Thanks !!!
Baby pictures 😊🤗
I know Ran has been sold but did I miss a notification of your next new home?
We're still searching for RAN II :-)
There are lots a laws in the USA about propane tanks often conflicting and the people filling them never know all of them.
Get your health care and dental in Mexico it will be almost as good a the USA if it is nothing major. There is a good medical tourism industry from the USA to Mexico so there is that.
Hi guys. ( This comment is meant to SHOW APPRECIATION and support my favorite TH-camrs.)
Easy to do, click "LIKE", ''SUSCRIBE'' and say "HI GUYS"!
No one seems to want to except the fact that your in America right now Johann,,,, From the north pole too the south pole this is America..... God knows....
7:00 ... And they destroyed one of the most amazing, full of biodiversity, local coves there when they blasted out the land to build the breakwater & marina... I went to University there in the 80's... I cried the day they started to bring the excavators and steam rollers, wasting the land and coast away ... sad
After 911 they changed the gas bottles here in the USA, they have a valve-like a toilet that won't allow you to open and let the gas out it needs backpressure! The new type has a triangle handle..Pain in the ass?
😎😃
Now it's time for a mexican Sombrero and a poncho and act like a gringo !!!! Hahaha , cool video !!!
The US doesn't do Zarpe's so if you are coming from the US you don't need one. If you are coming from any other country in Central America you need one. As far as I can tell anyway.
We heard that some boats coming to Mexico on the east coast have been having problems when not having a "zarpe" from the US. On the west coast they seem to treat it differently... 🤔
thumbed
Every time I hear about medical costs in the USA I get so depressed and angry. $750 compared with $7.50 in Mexico for a simple ultra sound
Pay an extra $6,000 a year in taxes and we can have cheap of "free" healthcare. Which by the way, I would prefer over giving my money to insurance companies.
@@pavichapin A few years ago my wife worked in Baltimore for over a year. As a Canadian, she had to pay US income tax first, then calculate the Canadian tax and pay the difference. It came to $300. That seems like a pretty good deal for healthcare and the other 'socialist' benefits we get here (like reasonable vacation times and maternity leaves).
Regarding insurance, I think if the insurance and health industries were not in collusion to fix prices, the US prices would probably be a bit more reasonable.
@@davep5788 Canadians pay a lot more than $300 a year per worker in taxes to support the healthcare system. Most of your tax experts say it in excess of $6,000 per tax paying worker. Comparing our tax rate to yours has nothing to do with healthcare. We would need to increase income taxes per worker at least $6,000 to rid ourselves of private health insurance.
@@pavichapin I'd be willing to reduce the enormously bloated military budget by 75%.
@@louissparks2496 That would be nice but not likely to happen.
Youre so funny
CAN'T BELIEVE THE MARINA DOES NOT HAVE GAS/PROPANE ETC. TAKE CARE
In Mexico, propane can only be dispensed by the government approved gas company, and at a location away from the city. The marina can't do it.

these guys are what americans should strive to be,
