Thanks for posting. I have loved this guy for over thirty years. Got to see him live with Coryell many times years ago. I wish those guys would get together and show all the young guys how a great duo should sound.
"Twin House" was one of my first albums, I could afford as a teen in 1977. I can remember that day, because it was the day after Elvis Presley´s death and a news reporter (at the record store) tried to persuade me to buy an Elvis album instead (and make a picture then for the newspaper). I refused and he was pissed off with me (ha,ha,ha) I am proud having bought Twin House, the corner stone of my HUGE Jazz record collection now. I also find, Philip is a nice guy, too underrated by Jazz critics !
Marvellous composition and such a gentle way to play legato and combined notes. One of my favorite guitar players. Thank you very much for posting this.
Wow. Thank you SO much for uploading this. This is a wonderful tune, one of my favorites. My absolute favorite version of it is in the album Philip did with Larry Coryell. Amazing piece. Haunting melody.
tks for sharing.... so charming this guy on the guitar... I love Philip's play... its full of swing... but same techniqually very ambitious (in its simplicity)... I visited some concerts in the 80ths of Philip being on tour in Germany... he is such a handsome, sympathic guy....very encouraging for any guitar student to learn from him. :-)
Being back again here I must add that I also appreciate Philip´s kind of playing on electric guitar..Listen if you can to the Pork Pie albums, his electric album with Larry Corryel or his solo on "angel wings" (superb composition) on the Passport ´75. Philip is a guitarrist who can talk and weep with the melody while he´s playing. So emotional and thrilling. Allan Holdsworth did this too in the 70s but unfortunatly has apparently lost that gift (listen to Ponty´s "enigmatic ocean" album)
some good news :-) For the occasion of Philip's 75th Anniversary, Warner Music France just released on 24 Nov 2017 a 5 CD-Box : ‘Selected Works 1974-1982’. It includes Philip's 4 classic albums 'September Man’ (1974), ‘Guitars’ (1975), ‘Babel’ (1980), ‘End of August’ (1982) and a previously unreleased recording 'Solo Bremen 1979 & 1982’ album. A complete booklet with notes by some great musicians and the original vinyl artwork faithfully reproduced, except ‘Solo Bremen’ which is illustrated by a painting by great artist Gilles Fiszman.
