    Nice to see other folk still using the MC909. It has been the brain of my setup for many years now and I'm still finding new ways to use it. Power to ya.

      Yea I love it, so flexible, but still plenty of odd limitations to inspire me. :)

    Hello! If you read my post, please answer...it looks like you have a micro-SD cd to the memory slot with some kind of adapter. Is it possible to get on aliexpress or ebay ? I would be so happy if you have a link!

    Yesterday, I bought a MC-909 on ebay. Already have a MC-808, but nevertheless, I´m excited about that turntable pitch gimmick, not to mention the (maybe easier) sample editing with that big display.

    Wow! You have all the SRX cards!
    What are the best expansion cards for Techno/Trance/Ambient/House type of music?

    • @16Steps
      @16Steps  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The MC909 only has space for one SRX card. I have SRX-05 Supreme Dance, which I think is the great for all the genres you mention.

    I bought one these days here in my country, Brazil. It's very little used. I hope it has a long service life yet, as very hard to find parts to repair. I'd have to import it here. the LCD screen looks good still, although the left corner is a little brighter than the rest. Will the screen soon have problems?

  • @fosferus
    @fosferus 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    are you able to swap patches and retain the sequencer data? say you have your kick, snare, hats, etc patterns programmed. can you swap out all those sounds and load a different patch set while the pattern data stays the same?

    is it possible to enter in to rec mode whilst the sequencer is running? or do you have to stop it and do the set up every time you want to record? EMU does this very well, yamaha does not.

    • @16Steps
      @16Steps  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly, you do have to stop it to enter record mode. 😭

  • @grazstarr
    @grazstarr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Wait so.. does this have it's own sounds? Or do you need to import all the sounds/samples?

    • @16Steps
      @16Steps  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, it comes with tons of sounds. With no expansions, it shipped with about 700 waveforms (think oscillator wave-shapes, or samples) 900+ preset patches and 80 something rhythm sets. Add an SRX card and you get more waveforms, more patches. Store your own waveforms (oscillator/samples) internally or on cards.

      If you're planning on keeping the machine I recommend investing on the Don Solaris sound set. It's $40 but it's worth it.

    Really helpful video, thank you! But how can easely record and editing a synth part if i for example wanna to do a interesting bass or synth theme?

    • @16Steps
      @16Steps  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can record in the notes just like I do in the video, or plug in a controller keyboard and jam out. The sequencer will also record any panel movements or accepted CC's. Stay tuned!

    Hello i watch all your mc909 videos are very good. I'm having trouble contributing arpeggio from the 80s disco this would have some arpegios ready to send to me

  • @tartari13
    @tartari13 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello. I recorded (In real time REC mode) a patch using "Arpeggio" and "hold", then saved it. I then hit record again (In real time REC mode again) and started changing the parameters of the same patch, I turned the cutoff an resolution knobs almost all the way to the right (since I wanted to start very a very "closed sound") and tweaked filter and amp slides a bit, stopped recording and hit "write". The parameter changes weren't picked up at the second recording. Any idea what I may be doing wrong? Thank you.

    • @16Steps
      @16Steps  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, I can't imagine what would be wrong here. The only thing I can think of is that you had the wrong part selected by chance. I would go into the sequencer and see that the cc msgs have been recorded. If not, maybe try it again. My guess is that the patch wasn't saved immediately before recording or that you wrote the edited patch, and maybe the tweaks don't effect it the same way. First things first though - go into the sequencer and see if it recorded the movements (even if you can't hear the result)

    • @tartari13
      @tartari13 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok I recorded the exact same thing on a separate track, it looks like the "resonance" is the culprit. At least on my machine, the resonance modulation does not save. Also, the volume goes back to the initial position when the pattern repeats (this is actually even more annoying), if I disable the sound it says disabled but if I just lower the volume it kicks back to the original....

    • @16Steps
      @16Steps  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tartari13 I would spend some time getting more familiar with the synth section and how different patches are saved and loaded into sequences. Have you checked that the sequencer is actually recording the CC value? Simply looking at the recorded values can be informative. My guess would be that you have some different filter types going on, perhaps different types per tone in the patch you are using, and probably messing with filter amt as well as the adsr of said filter. The volume (fader) of tracks are written to the beginning of the sequence in the mixer lane, along with other mixer data (patch, reverb send, output) Try setting levels where you want them and then write the pattern. Best ✌️🎧👽

    where can find the mc 909 editor for mac os, on the Roland website there is only for windows. maybe you have it?

    • @16Steps
      @16Steps  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sadly, it is no longer supported on OSX. Stick around though, and I will show you how to do most of the stuff that the editor does. There's only a small amount of very specific things that you can only do with the editor, but there are workarounds for most of those.
