I will rise
we ain't even kin
war inside of me
These are some of my favorite songs by Benjamin Tod. Amazing songwriter and artist.
why the hell does nobody include ballad of a broken man its easily his best song
@@chilidog3518 definitely a good one
@@chilidog3518 came here to type the same thing. Cheers
Ben did write this song. And it’s about his life.
Love this song. One of the most haunting lyrics I have heard.
Yet how many people on this channel dont think that he and the millions who personally relate should be in prison
You don't know people's circumstances!!! Maybe you need penitentiary time to cool off and quit being the judge juror and hangman!!!!
Padraic you’re a chump
Ive heard this over 100 times and my back still tingles everytime.
100 times lol. I'm probably closer to a thousand. I work outside and listen to music everyday and this is on my Playlist. 5 years clean and hits just as hard as always. The absolutely perfect song describing the mental war going in an addicts mind.
Damn it! that shit hit deep broke this stone heart down! Wow
Tod is an amazing talent.this vid was the first one of his l watched...glad l found him.
Thanks for the review, "I will rise" is another killer set of lyrics.
Benjamin Tod and Lost Dog Street Band are beyond amazing. Seen them twice in concert and they are the real deal. So authentic and so deep are the songs they write.
Ive been listening to him alot the past couple of days, great songwriting. I like his song "I went down to georgia" his friend wrote it before he passed on.
Such a sad story. Daisy Mae, Nick Ridout.... They're from the country but the story is metal af as kids in my day used to say lol. My cold black heart goes out to these poor people but they aren't victims they are survivors. An inspiration to anyone going through hell. Keep going
Aweaome reaction, haunting but honest lyrics. Hope all is well your way!
This song hit me hard ! Thank you , Benjamin Todd
He writes all his songs. He’s authentic as they come.
I love all their music but I love sick pup. Reminds me of life growing up.
I’m glad you treated the act. You never know what someone else is going through…..
I'm 41, listen to a LOT of music and went through a terrible heroin addiction that ended in two overdoses. I'm 5 years clean but this song is by far and away the best song about addiction I've ever heard. I feel like I wrote the lyrics to this song. This is particularly about relapsing which is the hardest part of getting sober. Everyone celebrates your sobriety initially but when you have that first almost inevitable fuck up (overdosed laying next to my wife) it becomes a new rock bottom. I relapsed and overdosed 3 months after getting clean and it lost every single ounce of good will I had earned from every friend and family member. I got clean but thay relapse probably cost 2 years of trust from everyone I know. It's brutal but hey sometimes you can escape like myself it just sucks and actually takes a couple years
Great review. Thank you
@168goal You're welcome, and welcome to the channel. :-)
What I really enjoy about Ben's music whether it's his Lost Dog Street Band or his Solo stuff is he's not afraid to go there and expose what he's been through. In some way or form most everyone can connect to at least something within his songs if not the entire song. He makes it ok for others to say 'Damn I'm not alone, I can relate to this and it's ok to speak about those dark feelings deep within.'
Life is not perfect and neither are we but we can always keep moving upward and forward regardless how many times we may slip, fall.
Cheers all!
He saved my life.
Earned my sub with this
Thanks for the reaction, I had roughly the same feeling the first time I listened to this song.
Wow!
Benjamin is great. You can feel all the pain in every word sung
A really good follow-up to this is his song "I Will Rise"
I Will Rise by him has a similar feel, albeit more uplifting. Highly recommend it, as well as anything by Benjamin Todd or The Lost Dog Street Band. Great reaction and review as always, I was waiting for this one!
Benjamin Tod
His songs are all wrote by him Benjamin tells his story by music and it’s wonderful
Man, this one is rough for me but I love it. This was my life about a decade ago, and the writer of this song had to have been there too.
@Justin Smith Glad to have you on board Justin, as always. And yeah, a song like this it's kind of easy to figure out if the artist lived it or is singing someone else's song--it just hits ya differently. Keep the faith, brother.
You can't write song like this and not have lived in in misfortune
He lived it ...
Yup. It's his song, his story, his life.
My son used to ride the rails with him back in the day. Said he is the real deal
Totally from the depths of addiction. The heart and soul of many if not all addicts/alcoholicso at some point. "Pitiful and incomprehensible demorlization." AA Big Book.
This had a real Irish/ Celtics sound to it. Really liked it but it brings tears to my eyes. I'm so thankful I am no longer in that situation.
Truth
You should do Ballad of A Broken Man by Lost Dog Street Band. Fantastic tune by the both of them. He wrote this song and you’ll really feel it!
Thanks for givin Benjamin Tod some light, he deserves it.
Moving song...I usually don't get into lyrics with this level of self-deprecation, but this one pulled me in. And the fact that he even mentioned God, means he's still thinking about Him... I think that's important.
Sorry I've been out of pocket for awhile, but 2020 has turned out to be a real bitch! But I do appreciate you reaching out to me during this time, it meant alot. I know I missed some good songs, but I'm glad to see you've been able to keep the channel as always, fun and positive.
@David Emswiler Always good to see you in here, and I found myself being worried about you since you've made that kind of impression on me! Yeah, 2020 has been rough on you from the details I've gotten, so let me pass along some encouragement that I'm pulling for you. Things will gradually turn toward the positive, and maybe they already are, bit by bit. It's always good once in a while to step away from normal routines and look back at life from a different vantage point, reassess whatever this life means, make an adjustment or two if necessary, then get back in the game. Looking forward to things getting better for you--I'll be in Jersey rooting for you!!
@@RockN2Country Thanks Don, I really appreciate your kindness! I think the toughest part now is the recurring dreams...I know they're not real, but only AFTER I wake up. Hope things are good with you and your state is over the worst.
When your down like that not even God can save you
This song hits different
Id have to agree with all these requests for I Will Rise by Benjamin Tod. Its one of his bests
Wow 👏 fire
Would love to see you listen and react to Casper Allen - Paper Ships.
Friend of Benjamin Tod, and amazing lyrics.
Yes! I saw Casper open for LDSB a few months ago and that guy was great.
Great tune. Would be interested in your thoughts on Glory Bound.
Having seen this with family members, it could be called "The Rock Bottom Blues" and everybody around them lives a part of it.
Yes!
Great song, good vocal range
"Damn" Sums it up nicely
New legend are uprising
Hey Don! A really good song from Ben would be from Lost Dog Street Band called 'The War Inside Me' great tune you see maturity of his song writing and hang out to the end of the video when they talk to his wife about Ben for a few moments.
Heart of gold album is great!
my favorite tune of his that i've yet come across. he does a killer cover of the mountain by steve earle. sierra ferrell also covers that same song, maybe even better than tod does.
I like Tod's version of the Mountain, just my humble opinion but Sierra does have some killer stuff out there! Also check out Pokey Larfarge
Benjamin Tod writes all his own songs
Benjamin Tod's songwriting saves lives. Check out Hill country devil. Beautiful song writing with similar struggles. Kerr county dopesick blues is a good one.
@Zac Powers Oh yes, I did "Rats Get Fat" and was taken to a whole different place. Doing reactions is so much different than doing reviews since I have no idea what's coming. Sometimes I'm more surprised or impacted than others, and that was one of them.
Long violent history, Tyler Childers
Ben wrote it, nobody else writes their songs
Lost Harold Reid of the Statler Brothers. So we need a good song. Thank you world. The movies. Do you remember these. Some memories last forever. Almost anything will do.
There's an artist named Hill country devil that's pretty good friends with Ben. You should check him out as well. But anyways nice reaction I'll be subbing and waiting to see what you bring next
That was a great reaction. I love his music. I would love to request you react to Hank Williams III- country heroes. Thanks
Sad. A person with no hope. First timer hearing him. Going to have to check out more.
Same.
Listen to "I will Rise" by him.
Allen Goodwin just got through listening to “I will rise “. He has a unique voice. When I have some time I’m going to check out a lot more of his music.
@@scottandal some of his stuff is written by an old friend who passed away. Not knocking anything cuz it's all amazing but shedding light to the original artist for some of them. His name is Nicholas ridout, been was in the band spitshine with him.
@@williamfoster8131 yeah, I went down to Georgia and lazy moonshiner but I'm not certain on anything else.
he wrote it
The song is dark, but I really like his voice!!!
The song is truth
Could you please please please react to They’re hanging me tonight by Marty Robbins?
He wrote this.
Please do 'Snakes and Waterfalls' by Nick Shoulders. You could probably use a pick me up after this...
All songs are written by himself or him and someone else
If your into lost dog you got to check out hill country devil "rats get fat" or "glory" great storytelling in his music.
@ brent might I just recorded my reaction to “Rat’s Get Fat,” and it will be edited and uploaded in a couple of weeks. Was quite the experience. Ha!
If you want to see good in humanity go to one of his videos and read the comments. Nobody judging or tearing down. Just stories of struggle and people offering words of encouragement and stories of getting through this crazy life.
Ben writes all his music, unless it's specifically a cover.
So in my "New Country" playlist it contains Lost Dog Street Band, Tyler Childers, Colter Wall, Ian Noe, Charley Crockett, Joshua Hedley, The Country Side of Harmonica Sam, The Dead South (all you reacted to), Parker Millsap, and Matt Heckler. I'd like to see you react to Matt Heckler - Blue Eyes Dancing. Matt is an amazing fiddle player. The link I'm gonna share Benjamin Tod joins him. th-cam.com/video/HwREKEuNUqc/w-d-xo.html Also my favorite Parker Millsap song is Heaven Sent. th-cam.com/video/6LWMHV6iqvk/w-d-xo.html Parker has a lot of good songs and more up beat songs too. Thanks Don.
It’s hard I know damn do I know
Requesting "He Ain't Country" by Claude King.
Don't know who wrote this? Ben did, from the deepest darkest pits of depression and addiction. That you can't count on.
He hates himself so much for the life he’s living - he half hopes there’s no God (as he’s heard in the modern world) but he’s confident either way because he actually NEEDS an ultimate judgment and damnation - because (as I started) he hates himself.
Truly heartbreaking
blue ducks from lonesome dove
been there didnt get a tshirt 30yr road free now never met a drug addict that wanted to be one HAKAD
No shirt for me as well. You made me laugh 😆
@@douglaswegener9086 see my ch vids be safe HAKAD
and benji is from mars
“I don’t know who wrote this”. Uhm, Benjamin Tod wrote it.
😢 💔
Ben wrote it cmon man !! do youir homework
@Brian Garvison There's a lot of homework that could be done and only so much time to do it. If this was my full-time job you'd have aa point, otherwise I'll leave some of the details up to the folks on the channel to fill. C'mon man, gotta give me some credit for doing the songs I'm doing.
Nope. I didn't like it at all. Benjamin and his song sound like it should be performed at a coffee shop somewhere, like an old school beatnik joint.
Lmao. Thatd be a sad coffee shop. Nah man most of his fans are those who sympathize with the content of his lyrics as most fans of any artists. Sorry you didnt like it, maybe you'd like his full band? Lost Dog Street Band. Lazy Moonshiner is a great place to start.
He's not country. He's pretentious. He can't play guitar and his lyrics are generic.
No that would be pop country.
