Very nice mod! Thanks for your work! That's helping us to see what the Quest is really capable of. I'm just concerned about some other peoples comments. Several seem to have no drop in performance. It is very different for me. As for PCVR and Virtual Desktop, it work flawlessly. It's very nice to play Half Life Alyx at a higher resolution wirelessly. But anything nativaly to the quest get a noticable drop in visual performance. At a point where I see a framerate drop at the first resolution mod higher than the original resolution. On the Oculus Quest anything running natively that generates geometry has a very strong potential at lowering the performance. Things with low geometry or streaming don't have this issue.

However it added them to an unknown source folder in my library. and it says at the top when i click on them It says, "running apps from unknown sources may put your device and account at risk. Our Platform Abuse Policy also prohibits piracy, illict modding, cheating and other unauthorized usage." When I click on them it changes nothing with the resolution. :(
Hi, thx for your job. I’ve tried to follow all the procedure but I can’t see the apps in the installed apps. Via ADB all the apk seem to bee installed but they are not visible in the apps area. Any suggestions ??
I have followed your instructions about putting the resolution files. Files show up on Oculus Quest. When I first put on the headset, I allowed USB debugging from my PC. After going through the command prompt, I followed the instructions to type in "adb tcpip 5555" and said it was successful. Once I disconnected my Quest from the computer, I could see the files on my Quest under "Unknown Sources". On this screen, it says they are "installed". When I click on any of the files, it takes me to Oculus TV. I can also see the resolution files displayed however, when I click on any of the files, the screen on the Oculus screen blinks but does not goes black like yours does in the video tutorial. The resolution does not change. What do you think the possible issue is??
I need some help. I did everything in the video but everytime I click the app on the oculus TV it doesn't work nor turn into a blackscreen like in the video. I would like some help or answer to it.
I have tried everything and cant get the apps to make a change. Installed step by step but the icons do not change. Also the icons themselves fr the different resolutions are very large. Was so hoping this would help. :(
Managed to get this working and there is a massive difference in the home environment. I have some 360 3D renders that I'm viewing in Oculus TV and there is to no difference in resolution. I'm comparing 4k wide image with 8k wide and they just look the same. Does the res change only work on some apps?
Either that or a "restart", doesn't have to be an actual power off but not just making the screen go black. Has to reboot with the Oculus logo coming up.
Once you install these apps, do you need to redo it from a pc if you have shutdown the quest? Or once they are installed on the quest, you can always run them from the quest even after a shutdown?

Followed every step, everything is installed and permissions are working. However, changing the settings the way you have did absolutely nothing for me. I tried going to lowest settings possible just to see the difference and there was none. Not sure what I did wrong.
Try these newer ones instead

Looks awesome! Is there one between 1536 and 2048? 2048, looks great but there is a little bit of stutter in some games.
Not for these apps, not yet but I'm planning on making updated ones, hopefully!
What is the sweet Spot Resolution right now?
I made a video on it here:th-cam.com/video/B7tbsflcmAE/w-d-xo.html
I have these one but when I click on the resolution it just takes me to oculus tv and then nothing happens
Do u need a nice pc or can u use a laptop and what would the exact steps to do this some one please help me I'm new to vr but the quest is so blurry for me and I want to fix it!! Btw u have nice vids keep up the good work
You can totally use a laptop. I have links in the video description to tutorials on how to do all of this, check them out then let me know if you have any questions.
Does the higher resolution auses significant battery drain? What's the battery life like?
The higher the resolution the more battery drain it depends on how high you go.
Thanks. This helped me with streaming alvr. I reduced the resolution in the headset then upped the resolution in alvr and got better streaming results.
@jake fever yes i was still able to read text in games. And the games ran better.
I will have to try this! Sorry it took me so long to reply, TH-cam isn't great at notifying me of most of the comments for some reason.
Interesting with lastest updates the Quest doesn't run the .apk soon I click is open in channel and doesn't run the app all is there I guess they block or didn't something to block that.
I love how this works for everyone else but me

@@OPENPCreviews Thank u im sorry :(
Do these work on Quest 2?
Lots of games have not been updated for Q2 yet an run fine at higher resolutions but its annoying having to plug it into the PC whenever I want to change the default render resolution.
so i modded my quest and idk why but it doesnt work the way it should. It doesnt want to change the resolution at all and I followed the steps
Check out my UPDATED apps, in this video here, just released last Sunday!

This is great!!! I was thinking how much better could it really be? Apparently a lot better. Way to go man!! Subscribed!! It would be really cool if you would make a default one though..
I owned a gear vr previously and all I had to do was turn the dial on top of the headset for better clarity but now I got the quest there is no option physically on the headset except for the slider which moves the lens in and out. I wear glasses and I find it difficult to read the print in the quest so what can I do I don't have a PC to connect to
What are the differences on Mac?
Have you considered making these available for sideloading with SideQuest?
you can sideload with sidequest that's the way I loaded them
@@tlacui76 I sideloaded with SideQuest but there are no changes when selected in Oculus TV. Can you help?
@@ellonpage read the comments above, you have to connect to pc and type on ADB the command TCP bla bla bla 5555, every time before start the APK, I only sideloaded with sidequest but I have to try
@@tlacui76 I poorly expressed myself. I meant more have them available via a repo feed in SideQuest.
Which is the default resolution? As I would just like to raise the resolution when I am watching a movie or show and switch back to normal when playing a game, does this affect battery performance?. Also is it supposed to say Oculus go instead of Oculus quest?
Isnt there a way to do the command from within the quest? Like the work, but lets get to the next level !
Thank you Peter don't forget to post to my group. 😊 I already shared this. 😁
I was about to ask in your group does this work
if i try doing adb tcpip it says adb server out of date eand i have to connect oculus link again with no debugging popup
is there a way to start the adb tcpip 5555 without pc? Its not always convenient to have pc around. thanks for your hard. its awesome
YES! Check this out!

So I did this and now they are installed. :(
Did you run the command?
On the top right of side quest
Click -> Run ADB Command -> Custom Command
And run "adb tcpip 5555"
Hi, thx for your job. I’ve tried to follow all the procedure but I can’t see the apps in the installed apps. Via ADB all the apk seem to bee installed but they are not visible in the apps area. Any suggestions ??
(I’m using the Quest device)
Oculus tv app is the location
What in game app is he using go click these?
Can you tell me how this works on a Mac system ?
Yes, please
I don't know how to do this on a MAC, but here is a video that should give you the info you need:

I can not get the resolution files into the unknown sources folder :(
I have followed your instructions about putting the resolution files.
Try the newer ones in this video:

I assume this can only be used for videos and not competitive multiplayer games, do you have any experience doing this with games like pavlov?
Pavlov is good on 2048, but 2546 has a very low framerate
Will it damage the headset?
No these changes are also just temporary and go back to default when you reboot the device.
I have tried everything and cant get the apps to make a change. Installed step by step but the icons do not change. Also the icons themselves fr the different resolutions are very large. Was so hoping this would help. :(
Make sure you installed "ADB COMMAND TASKER PLUGIN.APK" file as well!
not working with v50? I still got my Quest 1
Try this:
github.com/petermg/TheOcularMigraineMCP
How are you able to change the resolution from inside of the quest I can only change it in side quest
The apps connect to the adbd that you enable on the Quest. Check my latest video it has newer files!
OPEN PC reviews ok thank u so much
Managed to get this working and there is a massive difference in the home environment. I have some 360 3D renders that I'm viewing in Oculus TV and there is to no difference in resolution. I'm comparing 4k wide image with 8k wide and they just look the same. Does the res change only work on some apps?
by reboot, do you mean power off and then power on?
Either that or a "restart", doesn't have to be an actual power off but not just making the screen go black. Has to reboot with the Oculus logo coming up.
Once you install these apps, do you need to redo it from a pc if you have shutdown the quest? Or once they are installed on the quest, you can always run them from the quest even after a shutdown?
You have to re-enable adb over tcpip after a reboot yes. Here are my latest resolution apps:
th-cam.com/video/_Xg-hjrcS2k/w-d-xo.html
And here is a way you can do it without a PC:
th-cam.com/video/N4SIOaKwyLc/w-d-xo.html
does this affect in game performance for example beat saber or echo?
It can yes, depending on how high you make it you may lose some performance, on the other hand if you decrease the resolution you may gain some FPS.

No, Oculus CHANGED how their OculusTV works, so this may or may not function any longer. For some reason Oculus doesn't seem to be very friendly to these types of mods. Very frustrating.
What do I do after I get the developer mode please help !!!
