My favorite part about this dude is, he just cooks for fun, not to get views, but to just help other people cook. Amazing. Keep doing what you do best!
My husband and I were craving some bars but didn't want much and didn't to have leftovers so I halved this recipe (food scale is my friend). I baked it in a 9x5 loaf pan for 30 minutes. I checked on it at 20 minutes and the edges were done but the middle wasn't so I covered it with aluminum for the last 10 minutes. PERFECTION! It was more than enough for us and our son.
This recipe is my husband favorite, he requested every time. I noticed that because John lives in very very very cold place, he forgets about people baking in more warmer places. That’s why I ended up with my first attempt sinking in the middle and very tall on the edges (nothing that bothers my husband or I), but it definitely did not look like the pictures on johns Instagram. The second time I baked this I melted the butter with less heat so there’s a little of minuscule solid butter particles and at the end I put te batter in the fridge por 20 min so the batter wasn’t as runny or melted (more firm, just like the one in the video) . Still the cookie bar sunk a little but not as much as the first attempt
I just baked this and it is probably the best thing I’ve ever made, and I’ve been baking for 2 years. It’s like taking a bite into a super thick and moist cookie. Thank you for this recipe!
A tip if you need it to stick to the pan better is to add a little bit of oil on the pan and then placing your parchment, it doesn't move around as much and I find it easier to cut and fold it!
I made these tonight to take to work with me tomorrow night. Let me warn everyone of one simple thing: if you mix up your containers of All Purpose Flour and Self-Rising Flour, you're going to have a mess, especially since you add baking soda to these as part of the recipe. I had doubled the recipe to have two 8x8 pans to take. They overflowed in the oven (luckily onto foil on the rack below) during their 35 minutes of cooking. I let them cool and then cut them up to clean up the edges and turns out they weren't done, so back into the oven for a few more minutes. All in all, they are a 10/10 in terms of taste...but man, I'm getting me a label maker. John's recipes always turn out great for me, and with a little extra work, this did too.
I made these and they came out perfectly and beautifully! I reduced the amount of sugar & chocolate a little but still they tasted so well. I even love the way they look ❤ Thank you John!
My husband falls more and more in love with me the more of your incredible treats I make!! I believe this cookie bar just sent him over the top! Lol! Thanks John! ❤
My wife just made this and I had to get on to say - Thank You! The house smelt like heaven and it was so delicious! Perfectly gooey, but crunchy at the same time! And the salt flakes really brought out the flavour...
I made these today and used half recipe (in same 8x8 pan) and the bake time ended up to be 22 minutes with a light brown top. These are delicious! Bars are faster than cookies. I put this is my recipe book. You need to get a cook book. Would definitely buy! Definitely needs to be a dessert cook book
I bake this cookie bar every time my friends and I have a sleepover and they are obsessed with them. They call me randomly sometimes, telling me that they are craving the cookie bars that they ate last time 😍 It brings me so much joy. So tender and chocolatey! Hands down the best cookie bar recipe ever☺️ thank you john for sharing with us all these goodness 🤍
These are currently in my oven now! First time I’ve ever actually used a scale to measure the ingredients! Also first time making these and I doubled the recipe (even cookie bars for that matter!) I’m sure they are going to be delightful!
Did these turn out doubling the recipe, & did you bake them in 1 bigger pan? I was thinking of making several bigger batches for the holidays, but don't want to waste money if they won't turn out doubled... Thanks in advance!
“A crime scene of chocolate!” 😊Just the best channel and host for revving up your baking skills. Thanks. Charming gentleman as always and makes baking look easy.
I tried my hand at these. They were an absolute delight!! 35 mins in the oven results in a gooey cookie-brownie. They were manageable to cut, but were a bit difficult to hold. An additional 5 mins would likely do the trick. That said, how long you keep them in the oven is totally a preference thing.
Happy to see these are gooey instead of cakey like so many other recipes. I'll definitely be making this one and perhaps eating all the edges myself. They are the BEST!!!
When he actually has enough self-control to set aside a handful of chocolate chips and not eat them all before you reach the point where you garnish the top...
When I saw this I just had to tell you that my mom used to make chocolate chip cookie bars too! Only she would spread the dough in the pan, sprinkle the chips on top and put them in the oven for 2 minutes. Then she took the pan out, used a spatula to swirl the chips around like a marble cake! The put them back in the over to finish baking. Delicious!

I made this with peanut butter chips instead of chocolate. I was concerned that it might be too sweet, so i threw in some toasted raw walnuts and sprinkled it with some flaky himalayan pink salt on top. On my small countertop conventional oven, it took me about 45 mins to bake this at 175c. The end result was amazing. It was so yummy that when i bought it into my office, people were asking if i could bake it again for them. Thanks for sharing this great recipe :)

OK I made this for my daughter and son-in-law for their Anniversary. They picked the meal (Corned beef & Cabbage) and wanted this for their dessert. I added a little more brown sugar since I was shy on white, maybe by 1/4 cup. And accidentally dumped about 2 tsp. of vanilla in. But it turned out great anyways. They wanted extra chocolate chips so I obliged, but I have to say this was really, really good.
Fat anyone wondering- these are SO GOOD! I’ve made these so many times and it tastes amazing. I also sometimes make 3x the recipe, and then freeze the dough, to make some later. When I make these the whole tray is gone within a day😁
My daughter has made them twice and they are literally batter on the inside. What is your elevation? We are at 4,000 ft. I wonder if that makes a difference? The inside is kind of inedible.
I just made these and while they taste good there is too much chocolate ( I can't believe that coming from me, but it's true). Also I'd recommend cutting them after refrigeration. They were a little too soft to cleanly cut. Oh and I've found that if Preppy Kitchen makes it, then so can I, his recipes are so easy to follow. I've made his cinnamon rolls dozens of times now *EDIT* ...II take this back in part, but left my comment in case it's helpful. These firmed up WONDERFULLY after chilling, and my husband said they are decadent and he loves them

My mom has made these my whole life and we some times do this instead of a birthday cake for family parties, it’s super easy to add some icing and sprinkles to decorate the top and boom chocolate chip cookie “birthday cake”

Ah. My family calls those “firework cookies” because my grandma used to make them and we’d take them with us when we watched the fireworks on the 4th of July. We don’t go to see the fireworks anymore though. We haven’t for a while. I really wanna make these for some quality nostalgia, haha

Yet the first time I bake I was super excited and forgot to check the batter hence it wasn;t cook perfectly. Learnt my lesson and will do better this time. thank you for the recipe! it was hit in my family.
Hi John...my mom used to make these, and Congo Bars. Very similar to these. 👉I have something for you to add. It's simple. Ok...during the last 5 minutes or so of bake time, MY MOM would sprinkle morsels on top with several dollops of peanut butter. (Last 5 mins or so). 👉Must use good morsels so they melt. Once those morsels melt... you take a spatula and combine the two and make like a frosting. Some ovens could take 3 minutes for those morsels to melt. Sometimes they don't look like they're melting but once you tap them with a spatula, they are melting! Remove from oven. Cool, or not. It's very good👍
I made these They were really good When I took it out of the oven and tried it 10 minutes later it had a cookie/cake texture 30 minutes later it was chewy like a brownie My parents really liked it and my brother, I would for sure make this again 😌✨

Mine sunk too. Ended up delicious albiet buttery batter instead though.
Mine sunk as well. However, the inside was like undercooked so i ended up pop into the oven for few times. Not sure how it should be though 🤔
Sunken middle as well. Edit: I live in Connecticut so it’s cold here presently. Maybe my eggs were too cold and butter too hot.

These firmed up WONDERFULLY after chilling, and my husband said they are decadent and he loves them
Theses are that best chocolate chip cookie bars EVER!!!!! Love them and Love you .
I wanted to bake something for my coworkers and this perfect recipe magically appeared in my TH-cam feed. Making these tomorrow. 😋 on a side note- the host is as sweet as those cookie bars and has such a lovable demeanor.
John never misses. I made this measurement by measurement 3 times already and I loved it each time.
One of the few content providers that I will watch the commercials, in order for John Kanell (Preppy Kitchen) to receive compensation for his efforts in producing such AWESOME and wonderful videos.
I just made these and let me tell you I AIN’T SHARING THESE WITH ANYBODY, THEY’RE SOOOOO TASTYYYY and pretty easy to make. Just go for it u won’t regret it, heaven on earth fr 🤤🤤
Let the chips fall where they may, hopefully all in one corner because that's my favorite piece. Awesomeness, John!

I made this recipe and was definitely impressed. I left it in the oven for 40 minutes and it turned out perfect. It turns out the corner and center pieces were both delightful! ☺️
My mom has made these my whole life and we some times do this instead of a birthday cake for family parties, it’s super easy to add some icing and sprinkles to decorate the top and boom chocolate chip cookie “birthday cake”
This guys smile makes me smile...
I could literally listen to this guy talk for hours.
He is soo charismatic. I love his recipes
I love the sound of chocolate chips clinking against each other! This is mouthwatering! When will technology allow us to reach into these videos and grab a cookie bar! Those parents are so lucky. Thanks again for an easy and yum-looking recipe!
I’ve made these a hundred times I swear! They are thee best quick chocolate chip cookie ever. I love the sea salt on the top too !!!
Happy Valentine’s Day ❤👨👨👦👦
Just stumbled onto preppy kitchen and I'm kind of in love with you! Your videos are freaking adorable and I can't wait to try some of your recipes!
Mine are in the oven right now! I love that you didn't use a mixer. I decided not to drag my stand mixer in and mix them by hand. Since the butter is melted, it was so easy. I can't wait to taste them.
Ah. My family calls those “firework cookies” because my grandma used to make them and we’d take them with us when we watched the fireworks on the 4th of July. We don’t go to see the fireworks anymore though. We haven’t for a while. I really wanna make these for some quality nostalgia, haha
lmao I'm making these for tomorrow, which is the 4th of July lol
@@paigestoten4793 how did they turn out? Been wanting to try this recipe for so long... I might do it right now lol
The edge is the best I love the texture of the edge
I just imagine the other parents saying "oh boy! Play date at John's house today! Yummy!"
yes
THANK YOU SO MUCH for including weight measurements in grams too, you have no idea how much time you’ve saved me :)
John if I ever need a gastric bypass surgery I’m going to send you the invoice! 🤣
😂🤣😂
Forget gastric bypass! He's going to have to pay for us getting liposuction after we're done with those bars
Delete Me 😂 yep
😂😂😂😂😂
I’m going to need to know John’s exercise routine next!
I made these a few days ago. I add dark chocolate and toasted almonds - also reduced the sugar by half. It was amazing! They disappeared very quickly!
Oh you know no one is going to have a CHIP on their shoulder about being served these... They look like the best, BAR none!
I saw your comment under the epicurious video on brownies, I need to stop watching videos about sweet food 😅
@@SofiaYasmin lol they're so tempting though!
What is happening? You comment in every single video I see 😳😅
Same subscriptions? Lol
@@rebecaespada6886 Lol must be, there's no escape from the Pun-ishment! Muahah 😁
Passion for food hahaha 😆
I like how he sounds really genuine when he says good things about the recipe, other people just say it so that viewers would use the recipe.

“ to share with your family and friends ”
lol no, who said I was sharing
I made this on last monday for iftar and it finished the day after. And today my younger sister ask for the same bars. Yet the first time I bake I was super excited and forgot to check the batter hence it wasn;t cook perfectly. Learnt my lesson and will do better this time. thank you for the recipe! it was hit in my family.
Perfect time to upload, I was just like hmmm, what are we gonna bake today and then you uploaded😂
Hi John...my mom used to make these, and Congo Bars. Very similar to these.
👉I have something for you to add. It's simple. Ok...during the last 5 minutes or so of bake time,
MY MOM would sprinkle morsels on top with several dollops of peanut butter.
It's very good👍
Him: “Parents coming around... these bars are perfect addition to some...”
My brain: “vodka”
Him: “coffee”
Me: 🥱🥱🥱
Milk
I made these
They were really good
When I took it out of the oven and tried it 10 minutes later it had a cookie/cake texture
30 minutes later it was chewy like a brownie
My parents really liked it and my brother, I would for sure make this again 😌✨
Is it too sweet or just nice?
Would u pls do a video on how to fit your pans with parchment as perfectly u do? And very soon pls?? 😅
@@faithd4095 Thank u!!
I made these yesterday and they are GORGEOUS!!!! Please please please please please try them, they are SO easy to make and they will be the BEST thing you will ever taste!! Thank you @preppykitchen for sharing this recipe!!!😊😊😊
I’m wondering how he stays so incredibly trim after eating all this delicious food?
Well...you know...a chef one's told me the secret to this- "We don't eat it, we taste it."😂
He gets up every morning at 0300 and runs a marathon.
He gets up at 3am & rides his Pelaton
You can occasionally eat things like this and still be healthy
Something called...”exercise”
"It's a crime scene of chocolate." 😂 also known as the best kind of crime scene.
