Just received my a7r5 and searched everywhere - yours is the best! Andgreatly appreciate the time you put into this - need to go re-watch a couple areas for custom buttons - thank you!
Brandon, you are now one my favorite go to visual media information source. You give the right amount of info using the why technique . Most are vague even if they are doing a deep dive. I direct a full AV and IT team as well as teach students with many different learning capabilities,so your method allows those various levels to all stay with Brandon. I give the videos as pre learning resources . With your teaching style, I don’t have to give many sources for the same subject. I just send them to one source that works superbly for almost everyone. Nice Job!…..my man Brandon!💯🦾
Thank you for helping me set up my new camera. This is my first Sony, I have been shooting with a pair of D810 since 2015 and now I started the transition to Sony
Did you know that you can map your Focus button or AEL button to a different kind of focus. Its called Subject Recognition AF. It focuses on the regardless of where your focus point is. This means if you hit that button, it will find the eye/face regardless of where your focus point is. Very helpful for portrait shoots, street photography where your subjects constantly change, etc.
OMG THANKS SO MUCH! I was not feeling my new Sony A7RV coming from canon but this helped so much I love my baby now! This camera auto focus is sick worth every penny!
This was super helpful with my A7iv since it shares so much with A7Rv. I’ve had the stupid e curtain thing turned on since the beginning and had no idea where that setting was. Also turned off my DRO setting. Thx for taking the time to make this video.
Watched this video & now my a7r5 is ready for action! Thank you so much for this video & thank you so much for your dedication & your commitment. I’ve learned a ton of things from watching your videos & I can’t thank you enough for sharing the information you’ve shared that has greatly helped my improvement as a budding photographer. I also have to thank you for sharing the fact that the a7r5 works fine with v60 & v90 cards because the salesman told me that the a7r5 wouldn’t operate correctly without a cf express A card that cost $350. So because of you I’m returning that card today & getting that $350 back. Thanks again & Happy New Year!! Many blessings to you & your family
I appreciate you and taking the time to write your comment. I’m glad to help in any way I can. Yes if he told you only cf express A, he was selling you. Lol I only use V60 Lexar pro sd cards in ALL my cameras, my A1, A74, A7R5 and A7SIII, never had a problem and now with the A7R5 you can record 8k to a V60 card instead of v90. In thr A1 you need a v90 but I have a V90 sd card much cheaper then cfexpress. Happy new year to you
Thanks so much Brandon. Thanks for an excellent video. The V5 menus have changed so much since the III. All the more challenging since I still have not found a manual which I can download. The on-line version for Sony is nuts.
According to Sony's notes in the A7R4 firmware update, the Lossless Compressed (L) has the same image quality as uncompressed lossless; you don't loose any information. The only possible disadvantage is your computers CPU may have to do a tiny bit more work on the other end but I'd be surprised if it was noticeable with any modern computer. The time you save copying files over should more than make up for it. The A7R4 firmware update notes say, "The update adds Lossless Compressed RAW files in S, M and L (small, medium or large) file sizes - a highly requested feature. Selecting L size preserves the same image quality as an uncompressed RAW format while significantly reducing the file size. The M and S sizes record fewer pixels than the L size, providing even smaller RAW file sizes."
Yes we are aware of that but as you know some programs cannot read lossless compressed files which is why many people still choose to shoot uncompressed
Thank you a ton for this! I could not use my a5r5 until a video like this came out! Thanks again super helpful. Woot now I have my aperture set to the back dial, thank again Brandon! ;-)
Around the nine and a half minute mark you say your switching to Portrait Mode? Do you mean Programmed Automatic Mode? I'm new to photography and that has me a bit confused. Portrait mode sounds like a scene mode which I was under the impression the A7RV doesn't support. I sure wish it had scene modes.
You can flip it so the display faces the camera or set it so it turns off when not used (can be set from 2 sec to 1 min). That is in the "Auto Monitor OFF" setting.
If your a wedding photographer you can take advantage of it. This is not a wedding photographers review. If I shoot a wedding then yes of course I’m gonna write to both cards
Which is the reason I said grab a coffee. Lol this video was suppose to be long. When you go over an entire menu system to help people. Read the comments I’m sure the other 1000 people agree
@@BrandonColePhotography Thanks, My comment was a bit tongue in cheek, sorry for that - I think ALL technical manuals send me to sleep tbh so nothing personal ! Good news is I watched your video again and yes can join the rest in saying it helped a lot -cheers ! - moving from Nikon after 30 years to sony- an old pro learning new tricks ;)
After reviewing your vid on TH-cam it gave me everything I needed to know about the Sony A7R V. Thank you also I will be following you religiously Simply because of the attention to detail that I need. 😎😉

This was a nice synopsis of the setup and gave me a great start on using this camera especially in light of the menu changes compared to the a7r4
A great introduction to the many, many features. Thanks!
Great video. On the part 19:18 about memory recall, it doesn’t allow me click the function. How can I fix that please ?

How do I set my camera to display the captured image for a second or two after taking the shot?
Shot preview
@@BrandonColePhotography Is that under playback option?

Portrait mode vs video
@@BrandonColePhotography Ok thanks, in the manual Sony refers to still and video modes so I was a bit confused.
@@johnwilson7680 very true it does sorry for the confusion but yes stills and video
Have you had any issues with flash using this camera?
Never
My Sony a7r5 camera’s display always on : exhausting battery quickly !please let me know how can I turnoff this monitor.
Thanks
You can flip it so the display faces the camera or set it so it turns off when not used (can be set from 2 sec to 1 min). That is in the "Auto Monitor OFF" setting.
How to set under expose so as seen pitch black LCD
Turn off your live view
Surprised you in media settings you don't simult. record? Please explain. In the wedding world I want the double coverage
If your a wedding photographer you can take advantage of it. This is not a wedding photographers review. If I shoot a wedding then yes of course I’m gonna write to both cards
Thanks
If you use silent mode you cannot use flash. How do your get around that?
I never use flash in silent mode lol.
have you ever experienced the rear monitor turning black during a shoot?
thanks your video for me it was a little too long and I fell asleep watching.....
