If you use it during the day do not put any citrus essential oils because you can Some cold-pressed essential oils, particularly the citrus oils, can be phototoxic when applied to skin that is then exposed to sunlight. ... Phototoxic effects may include redness, blistering and rash.
Doug, you’re funny! Stacy explains things well enough! 🤣

We use lemon balm all the time for bugs, home made smell goods, and sometimes I've been known to drink it in teas.
Cloves are amazing! Thank you for sharing this. We have a lot of ticks this season which is not normal. We keep pulling them off. I will make some I am growing mints, lemon balm, lemon grass as much as possible! I need a good buy spray safe bugs spray! Thank you for sharing! Y’all rock! Wendy🙏🏻🇺🇸
🌺Oh my I can’t wait to try this. My father was a Hare Krsna and my mother a true hippie from the 60s both from California.... So I grew up in an ALL natural home with gardens, no chemicals, and home remedies.... Both of them passed when I was in my very early 20s so unfortunately I wasn’t able to pick their brains and learn everything..!!! I try very hard to raise my family in a very natural environment and the bug spray is HUGE!!! When I moved here to Missouri I was eaten ALIVE by the mosquitos !!! One of my sons and I are basically allergic, so I’m so very excited to try out something more natural and less harmful as we have to apply bug spray every single day as we love the outdoors 😊🌺🌸
If I may, how did they pass?
This is so timely as my hubby gets bit over and over every time he is out mowing and trimming our yard. I absolutely love your videos and have learned so much for you. I am also a fellow Missourian. I have been trying to learn about herbs and essential oils and making chemical free products for our home. Thank you so much. Blessings, Linda Hardesty
Sure would like Stacy’s cookbook❤️
now you can buy it! :)
" Snarky, Snarky Little Star" Now we no how fine you are!" Baaaahaaa!💝 Only change if it makes you a better person in your own eyes. We are here because you guys are just You!
Stacy, you did an Excellent job at teaching us. I understood it the first time you said it. At first I was afraid Doug was trying to confuse you and take over your show but I guess he did have a legit question 😊 when it came to making a big batch. Make it big then pour into a small container then finish off with witch Hazel. Thank You So much. Doug is the Star when it comes to building things. Your the Star when it comes to health, food and beauty 😊. Thanks Guys 🙏❤bye 🙋🏼♀️
you guys are awesome love watching you work together and teach
Thanks for the step by step in the bug spray Doug that really helps.
You two are a gift to me and mine. Blessings and prayers to you good people.
Y'all are great!
My mix for mosquitoes and horseflies: one ounce water, one Ounce white vinegar, 1/2 ounce baby oil, 15 drops of clove oil, 15 drops of lemon grass oil. 1 or 2 drops of liquid dish soap. Shake & spray on exposed skin. There is a smell of vinegar but with the clove & lemongrass I don’t find it terribly offensive. I have found this to be very effective for at several hrs. Clove oil in wonderful stuff. Love the smell. The outdoor gun range that I have a membership has a lot of horseflies and they are aggressive. This stuff works extremely well for me.
Essential oils can be toxic to pets. Many essential oils such as eucalyptus, tea tree, cinnamon, citrus, oregano, clove, pennyroyal, peppermint, pine, sweet birch, wintergreen and ylang ylang are toxic to pets. It may cause breathing problems. My cat nearly suffocated. Her throat was so badly swollen she couldn’t eat or even drink water. We took her to the vet. $400 later. The vet told us cats are very sensitive to smell. It can even cause nerve and brain damage. Essential oils are toxic for pets. Consult your vet before you end up with a sick pet.
@@amandadupreez6105 - I use the mixture on me, not my pets…. But I agree that if using anything on pets you should research the ingredients. In fact researching for use on humans is probably sound advise also. We don’t want loved ones to be hurt by our diy concoctions.
@@motorgearhead even in vicinity of pets. I didn't use the stuff on my cats as well. Certain breeds are more sensitive to smell and can have serious health issues.
Even people with multiple chemical allergies cannot tolerate any fragrances/perfumes/essential oils.
Oh Doug your expressions are fine you know I thought you were just a little tired a long day on the Homestead😉
loved it when the door opened by itself ;-) love your videos thanks for the great info
LOVE IT! Thank you so much for sharing. Love you two. 🥰🥰
I can't wait to plant these herbs! THANKS for all the tips.
My soul loves u both and it doesn't matter we don't even know each other. Thats whats cool about love and reverence :) ty! Doug u are funny as all get out.
You guys are awesome 👏. Thank you for sharing this wonderful teaching tips.
Ok I'm taking notes and writing down recipes. Definitely want to be prepared for when it gets warmer and all the bugs come out.
You're so funny Doug!
Thank you! I had a citronella plant and it works great!
Thanks for clarifying!! That was very helpful😊
Did I hear a tad bit of sarcasm in that voice??? LOL....Don't let the internet trolls bother you.You guys are great and the REAL homesteaders love your channel!!!
I wouldn't recommend it at all......We need a vacation from our vacation. Other than seeing things that I have only seen on TV or magazines the trip was exhausting....
I use alcohol lemongrass tea tree and lavender oil mix for mosquitoes. Works well. Im allergic to many chemicals. Had to find an alternative since im so sweet and they love me.
I am going to try some of this. I never put chemical bug sprays on my skin, though I do get desperate and spray my clothes sometimes. I have had really good results using Avons Skin So Soft. I often rub my horses down with it. But for me, I can't stand oil on my skin when it's hot. It traps the heat in and breaks me out. Putting it on the animals, attracts dirt, but the oil does last longer than water base. Skin So Soft smells so strong, it kind gives me a headache. I bet if my horses could talk, they probably don't like it either. lol However, I love the smell of all these herbs. And I am thinking the one made with vinegar, would smell like salad dressing. yum. Some people tell me they have no luck with herbal sprays for bugs. I think it is because they don't keep reapplying it. Anything natural has to be reapplied often. Especially if it is water based.Great job ya'll!
I add mint and tea tree oil to everything to everything to repel bugs.
Mosquito Dunks and Granules work really well for standing and/or slightly moving water. Kills the larva before it hatches into Mosquitos and its pet friendly and biodegradable, good stuff!
"KEEP ON KEEPIN ON"
Very very good information and teaching tips. Thank you for sharing this wonderful teaching lesson.
Bugs don't like me! Must be all the garlic! LOL!
Thank you, I never thought of planting lemon balm just other herbs. I am going to try spraying my outdoor screen and light with this spray.
Great VID, I will be getting rid of the deet now.
Wow. Great information. Can't wait to make my bug spray now. Thanks for sharing.
Will be trying it for the summer!!
👍👍
Hi Stacy & Doug! I found your videos a while back and really enjoyed all your homemade, natural, recipes, as well as the wealth of knowledge, experience, and encouragement you both freely share with others, thank you!
I have such great respect for you both and the lifestyle you lead; so encouraging, even more so in light of the last few years!
I live in Italy where it is terribly humid and full of mosquitos. I am excited to try your homemade spray! Can this spray be used on your face as well? Will it work on those little gnats that fly around your face aggressively in swarms? I have never experienced them quite like this year! I feel like all these horrible garden problems have increased lately (almost biblically) like never before!!
In the last few years, we have also had an import problem of Japanese beetles that are devastating everything. They are also TERRIBLY aggressive! They actually seem to seek out a person, and within seconds, arrives swarms of them that will attack you and get you running for cover!! It's so scary!
I'm wondering if you have a particular recipe or helpful technique on how to keep them away, and most importantly, drive their numbers down? I can't go out in the garden now to work until they are gone at the end of August! They will have laid their eggs for next season devastation, then they seem to disappear (die off?) in dormancy in the grass/ soil? They are wretched creatures! Do you have any experience with them or advice you could give me?
Thank you again for your wonderful videos! God bless you both.
❤Paj from Italy
Great tips! Can't wait to make the bug spray.
chiggers are brutal on our property - gonna try this recipe. thanks
I need this thank you so wonderful going to do these.
I am so doing this. Thanks guys. God Bless
This was a great reminder for me! Thank you!! Hoping this will help with spiders too!!
Hi!! New to ALLLLL of this! Just found you 2 about 4 days ago! This is my first comment to you- I have more to say on other videos, but I’m usually watching you on my AppleTV which doesn’t give me access to Comments.
Anyhow- I Love how Mr Doug is asking the questions that I would ask... sometimes I think I Know what to do, get up and running w what I saw or heard, only to have Little Things that will keep me thinking and thinking possibly Over thinking and at times even, kept me from going forward. So... thanks for thinking of the viewers questions we might have! 👍🏼 Really look forward to watching all your videos!
I’m making my first garden - organic! I have lots of Favs to watch like you! keeping me Going!
Get ready to watch all their videos…
Love you guys. just found your videos. I'm so happy I did. Thank you for all the information. sooo helpful. I'm all about using what the Good LORD put here for us to use. may the Lord be with you .
Awesome video guys. I've used cloves and peppermint in my home for years because it cleans so well and smells so good. Didn't know about the bug repellant properties. Thank You so much.
Do you just make it yourself with water & essential oils?
I grow the peppermint and spearmint and I will go and get some lemon balm today, Do I need to dry this before I make bug spray??? and Where would you get clove to grow??? or do you just go to the whole foods store and get it... Great video and great info.. This will be a lot of help because we run a rescue and keeping fleas and mosquitos away from the dogs can sometime be a chore in itself...
I love,love,love this!
Great information! Thank you so much! The mosquitoes are just beginning here. It’s April, and I really needed this to work in my garden...on me. They are always around in the evening especially right now.
THANKS DOUG &STACY
Your bug spray for pets works great!
Thumbs up.
ENJOY....THE SIMPLE LIFE
I make soap with these oils to use during bug season.
Doug you are too funny! I love these tips because I have never liked using bug sprays because of all the chemicals. I hate flies and I am going to try this and I can't wait to try it at our family reunion because we put out a spread we call Dinner on the Grounds, its out side and the flies have a feast! Thanks
Yes. Strain strain. I made something once and just put in my bottle. It clogged up the bottle. Lol
Thank you so much for this informative video. This is the best and most informative video I have seen for natural bug spray.
oh I seen this too last year! rewatching it 1/26/23
Is lemon balm the same as lemon mint ?
I fermented garlic with those other herbs and had it in a spray and it works better than I thought...the oils stick to the bugs wings and it also suffocates the insects too ! Love it!
Round TWO she’s gonna spray you. Ya sss. Doug spray. I love this one.
Great info, I am not ready for bug season yet. but it has already started. Have pulled several ticks of myself already.
Love this!
Doug is making it more complicated then it needs to be .lol!
Maybe fill the bottle with the water and then pour it in a pan. Bring to a boil, shut off and add a couple to three tablespoons of herbs in the water and let it set for 1/2 hour. Pour strain the now liquid tea back into the bottle. Now, using a spray bottle of your choice, fill it half with witch hazel and half with the tea. Cloves, lavender and mint are good to use.
We just watched this video and we were surprised that you guys didn't notice how the door opened on its on. Or appeared to at least. I would've left a puddle in the floor. Hope all is well ont he homestead. And don't let those Negative Nancy trolls get to you Doug. Be yourself and the only 2 that you need to worry about pleasing are GOD and STACEY! Much love and GOD Bless!
Chad and Tara Cox it's probably there Dog or puppy or a sticky door
Good video. I do want to let you know you cant just boil water and call it distilled...that is simply boiled water. There is a significant difference and the minerals in boiled water will actually be more concentrated due to the waters evaporation.
To distill it you need to capture and condense the steam...
Edit: it's actually very simple to capture and condense the steam.
You need a large funnel, food grade tubing, and an "icebox"...use ypur imagination.
Cheers
"Utilize the herbs your have"..love it."
I love this. I will be making some.Ty so much. I love your videos. Many Many
Many Many blessings
Stacy, does this also work for keepin chiggers off? i made a batch and the cloves make it smell sooo good. we love your videos!
This is going to sound weird and nasty, BUT, here goes anyway.
I no longer shower using soap (except once weekly I shampoo my hair with Dr. Bronner's).
Instead, I merely rinse off every other day.
I know, that sounds gross, but I feel cleaner, no longer need underarm deoderant (no smell) and nobody has ever said they smelled anything foul (I've asked).
I also do not brush my teeth 😬 and haven't for about 14 years now.
Instead, I pick and rinse, however, I also eat ZERO sugars - meat only of late and have robust oral health.
Mosquitoes?
They hover now and then, but don't land. I do supplement vitamins B1 though. Maybe that's what deters bugs, I dunno.
catnip, juniper greens. as kids we use to use catnip for flying insects on our skin. out in the wild we found out that to get away from the mosquitoes we would hide near an evergreens. junipers were the best. the mosquitoes do not like junipers. the juniper needles do have a nice bit of oils in it but the catnip does not. it wears off really fast. so i use a light oil to hold the catnip longer. one should not confuse the juniper with the arborvitae. catnip grows in the gardin reasonably fast.
while i was studying in college and going up to the alaska fisheries for college money. my freind and i would enjoy fishing all the time up there. i bought packs and packs of these little cigars they make a lot of smoke. but my freind never used anything to keep the mosquitos away. he then taught me to eat a lot of garlic. and that's why the mosquitoes did not bother him so much.
I've used something similar for mosquitoes but not with quite as much stuff in it. I'm sure this works way better.
hey guys i love the video i think more people should go all natural. keep up the great work
Hi...... 🎥👍👍👍
Girls like that stuff.. :) Doug spray, Ya! sssss.....
Ticks? You need MORE GUINEAS!
We used to use wild fern to ward off skeeters.
Cool
P.S. by the way mosquitoes don't like basil either. So boil up some basil water then add your witch hazel
awesome! how often should you reapply?
Great stuff.
Do you have a video on making an essential oil?
Love this I get bitten so badly, we were in floods about six weeks ago and got so badly bitten I got infected dermatitis had to go on steroid pills and cream, I suffered for over a month so bad.😱😭
My daughter loves thieves!
Another great video. I make herbal teas and have done so for years. One of my most requested items. Raspberry Leaf, chamomile, lemon balms, cayenne pepper, passion flower, peppermint. I grown most of those on my own property but I am always looking for alternative suppliers of organic ingredients. Do you sell herbs you grow?
Isn’t it better to put the dried herbs in alcohol to steep to extract the benefits of the herb?
Definitely going to try this bug spray
How often can you spray your dog with this stuff, we have lot's of ticks in Nova Scotia , Canada and I have a pond that the deer like to come visit so they ticks are very much around me, also can I put it on my ducks? Thank you both I always wanted to learn about how to use herbs and just never seem to be able to find the time to start reading , and most of the times when I do read, I fall a sleep lol Most times I have a hard time trusting what you see or read on You Tube, so I end up doing nothing, but since I have found you and Miss Stacy, I've making Tincture"s and just love them .. I am feeling so much better... Mr Doug I didn't think you were looking sad, I thought you were just paying attention to your beautiful, just like the rest of us...lol. Thank you so much for all your great information....
Thank you very usefull video
great, I love it
The door opened behind you guys and it creeped me out. Thought someone was gonna try and scare you 😂
🌻
