There was a time when we used to criticise magazines for photoshopping impossible beauty standards and now we’re doing it on our own. I’m not pointing fingers as I do it too.
The most radical, empowering thing you can do in terms of "beauty" is familiarize, accept, and embrace your natural face, I understand it's extremely hard to do in our social media/looks based society. But its imperative work for true self love.
i’m against filters and editing your face/body on apps not because of the perfect standard on social media (which is very valid) but because of it’s impact on your own mental health. Body dysmorphia is a very real and dangerous thing. If you’re constantly using filters and always editing your face, how will you like your real unmodified face? I think it’s a very dangerous place to be in when you only like yourself when you are modified in some way, I’d encourage girls to limit their use of filters and editing apps if they can. The way you are without them is more than fine🥺 (in fact, everybody looks better without filters, especially the instagram ones, they almost make you into a caricature of yourself, your natural face will always look better.)
youre so right sis. This was very well said. I personally suffer from body dysmorphia to an extent and all this filters is making me feel more insecure

Yes! Once you abandon trying to be perfect you begin to feel more comfortable within yourself. It becomes more free choice moving between looking glam and and looking natural. Like both versions are me and I have choice as to which I show everyone when I feel like it. That choice can never come from outside again
@@Chima207 I feel that even if beauty standards are made more natural most people will chase something unrealistic for them. The truth is some women genuinely have naturally beautiful skin, healthy natural hair (not saying long or a particular texture but just generally nice hairline etc), pretty features and cute bodies. The goal should be with moving away from comparing yourself unhealthily and trying to be perfect, I think it’s better for everyone’s mental health and self esteem. I love that they can laugh about it, cause at the end of the day perfection and beauty is a hard standard, and all girls/women have things to share about their journey💖love this & love the Pressed podcast!!!
I don’t really watch these girls, however. I’ve seen them on Instagram. Beautiful girls, love this idea of just being your natural self, letting the world see that for a change. Why are we always striving to be perfect? What is perfect? You know? Anyways, I love how you can encourage your subscribers, viewers to be more comfortable just being yourself. We don’t have to come on social media wearing expensive designers or eyelashes from here to Ghana 🤷🏽♀️ I’m just saying.💚
I think it's better to change our minds than our pics. To challenge internalised fatphobia, western beauty ideals and the male gaze. Otherwise were just feeding into the problem.
Y’all are praising them in the comments for being natural but the elephant in the room is these girls clearly need to stop wearing lace fronts and such heavy makeup because it obviously has done more harm than good.
Omg, whats the point of weave if you not taking care of your own hair. Black girls (as a black girl myself) this aint it….. the edgea gone, hair thin its a messs we should do better take care of your hair
It's because wearing wigs has now been classified as a "protective style", so it's an excuse to say you're protecting your hair when you haven't actually seen it in months. But I would like to see black women really embrace our natural hair. Build a routine and believe that you can still look done up with your own hair. For me, it's a big contradiction to say you're a proud black woman, but cover the one thing that makes us unique.
Lace fronts look ridiculous on my tiny ass forehead. My natural edges touch my eyebrows. Lol! I literally have a 3 head when all these girls have a 4 or 5 head. Smh. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Headband and half wigs are my friends. Lol! Was never a fan of lace or hair glue.
@@marleyhill34 my edges on the side of my head barely give room for a full lace front. I prefer closures and my hairline is currently intact because I’m not gluing it to my hair 24/7. Also mostly wear headband wigs too during the week 😂😂
What’s going on with the hair. This is not a shady comment I promise, I’m just curious EDIT: I’ve seen comments that’s it’s some sort of chemical peel.
She’s done videos on her YT on how wigs ruined her hairline, and that’s why she has a dark line on her forehead it’s from the glues. So she’s doing chemical peels to get rid of the dark line on her forehead.
When you deep it the whole beauty standards are delusional!! Like who is anyone to tell anyone what everyone should look like??? Everybody is different and that’s the beauty of human beings. All this editing and filter is BS! Learn to love who you are, with makeup and without makeup! We are not meant to look like porcelain dolls!!
