2021 UPDATE: The Boeing 747 is no longer part of British Airways' fleet. The Business Class seats seen in this video are still in use on some of their Boeing 777s, Boeing 787s and Airbus A380s. However, BA has introduced a new type of seat which is being rolled out across the long-haul fleet at the moment and can already be found on newly-delivered aircraft such as their A350-1000s. To see what they are like, please refer to fellow air travel blogger DENNIS BUNNIK's video here: th-cam.com/video/wvBrtXSueOI/w-d-xo.html
British Airways is one of the few airlines which won't give up the 747s (That's a good thing), but it doesn't have its classic livery anymore with the corner of the British flag on the tail. Lufthansa still has 747s also, but they still have their old livery. American airlines (as we saw a number of when arriving in Philly) has new livery, and I like their present livery one better than their old one. But British Airways, I like the old one better, sorry. BA has a nice first class now though, as seen in this video
Here is what i love about flying. I love to do that so much. I don't know why i feel so happy when i do these things. Going to the airport, getting in the luggage line, passport control, entering the lounge if i can, going to the gate, sitting down to my seat, and take off. During these times i feel like i am in different world
This was the flight I took when I travelled to the States for the first time back in 2013, although that was on a 777-200. Manchester-Heathrow-Philadelphia. Great memories!
I love your trip reports I couldn’t click quick enough when I had my notification today! I love our Airline, I think they have hugely upped their game of late, I am just hoping after this crisis they still have some Jumbo’s in their fleet. Stay safe and looking forward to us all returning to the skies soon.
It is a little bit sad that due to the COVID-19 all BA 747's are retired so fast. I have a good rememberance on them! Thank you so much to pleasure me with this report! Greetings from the Netherlands by Arie Bert Versteeg ;-)
Hi David, not sure if you have any insight on this but here goes nothing. Whenever I sit on a rear facing seat, i.e. in a train or a car, I somewhat get motion sickness because I'm not facing the direction of travel. Do you think it could be the same feeling on a plane as well? As I want to try out rear facing seats on a plane one day.
It's hard to say...flying is certainly different than riding a train, but except for take off I don't think you'll even notice that you are facing the other way. I don't think it would be a problem for you, but I am not sure if I am the right person to tell you that because I also don't find facing the wrong way when riding on a train...
Jasmine Johnston I hear from most people that it just feels like a regular rear facing train seat. Not to mention that rear facing seats are safer in a crash.
The Boeing 747 was an amazing airplane. Shame they’ve been retired and are all being scrapped. I watched this show called Inside Mighty Machines and they were dismantling one of those flying beasts. They salvaged parts that could still function and eventually put them in other planes, including the engines. Then the rest of the plane was cut apart and sold for scrap
In West Philadelphia born and raised. On the playground is where I spent most of my days. Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool. And all shooting some b-ball outside of the school. When a couple of guys who were up to no good, started making trouble in my neighborhood! I got in one little fight and my mom got scared, she said "you're moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air"
I had an opportunity to try this business class configuration 20 years ago and must say I really liked it. It’s especially good for long haul flight if you have to get up for a stretch or to the washroom without disturbing your neighbour.
BA was going to change this flight BA67 to the A350 on March 29th but due to Covid they’ve been partially operating the service with a mix of 772,788 and 789s. I was going to fly BA67 in Club Suite in August. I’ve got my fingers crossed Covid will calm down by then. Great video as always guys :))
I really give ur channel 10 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️And this is because of the good quality of filming the video and the trip report videos are organized and clearly shows every thing just like I am really traveling , i really watched nearly all of your videos and prefer them upon all. I would like to thank you extremely much for starting this channel
The shoulder height reading light is switched on by using the sliding button next to it, the button on the remote controls the light in the overhead compartment.
WrongNumberZ yes but the 777 fleet is getting the same club suites as the A350. Most of the Gatwick fleet already have it and they’re working on the Heathrow fleet. Or at least they were but not sure if still are due to current events. The 787-10 will have the new seats too
No!! Don't tell people about the B lounge! Those of us who use it want to keep it quiet. There must have been something wrong with your seat as they do fold flat. They're actually quite comfortable to sleep on and you have space to move your legs around without them being in a cubby hole, an issue with some other business class seats. They're also quite long which is good if you are tall, but the whole seat is quite narrow which isn't so good if you are not. A lot of people complain about having to step over others to get into some seats, but conversely the two in the middle are good if you are a couple. I've flown these plenty of times and compared with other airlines the whole experience is pretty average but it's better than being at the back (where I usually sit)
She's such a beautiful lady, it's a shame that only a tiny handful of airlines still use them, I quite like BA on long haul as well.... you're looked after pretty well even in cattle class. 🇬🇧🇬🇧✌✌
What makes Simply Aviation better then other flight review channels? Well it’s the fact that they show all the different classes on airlines and not just business or first class. I’ve seen other channels that focus way too much on either business or first class and barely shows economy class. Again Noel from Inflight and Paul Lucas comes to mind. They’re good channels but I kinda got the feeling they’re mostly avoiding regular economy class because they don’t fancy it. I know Noel is quite tall so I’ll give him a pass because not all economy classes suits a tall person. Again good channels but not for me. I’ll probably stick to watch Simply Aviation.
My uncle lives around Heathrow airport. I've only ever been to his house once or twice, but I saw many planes coming in to land in 2 hours. I couldn't see out of the window his house is facing the other way lol but I could see in the garden so I just sat and admired the 747s taking off and landing and A380s. I saw some A330s and I saw the BA 777s as well
Congrats on a fantastic review David! Really enjoyed watching it, looks like BA has a solid product, food looked amazing! I love the backwards facing seats, way more relaxing to look at the wing and engines! BA business class has been on my to do list for a while now! I have to get on one of their 747's before they're gone. happy easter to you guys
@10.57 when you said the light doesn’t work - it probably does you use the slider next to it to adjust the light. The button on the IFE is just there I think because they retrofitted these old seats with new IFE
@@riccardosorace5184 Really hope so. I flew back from Miami last September on BA 747 registration G-CIVE. Probably was the last ever 747 I went on but hope I'm wrong
I wonder how does it feel to have backward facing seat especially during take off and landing, especially when we're not a member of FA, humph...??? If I could choose, I rather have forward facing seat, just like the one in 1st class or economy class...
I have a round world in business booked starting at the end of July. One flight is from New York to London on a BA 747. I hope things turn around, however it is looking highly unlikely.
I am always curious as to why the engine manufacturers put the swirl on the turbines of their engines. The only reason I can gather is so the pilot can see that they are turning.
I've flown in this club configuration multiple times and there are 2 things that can get annoying. One is if you are against the window (or very middle) and you need to get out, you might have to climb over the foot rest of the seat next to you. It's no big deal if the foot rest is up, but if they are sleeping, it can be quite a big step to get over for vertically challenged people. Second is if you are sitting in an aisle seat, the flight attendant will sometimes lean over you to pass items to the other seat. Usually you can get a good whiff of what perfume/cologne and underarm deodorant odor they use. The club configuration in the new A350 is superior in layout compared to the current layout. Hope they can make the changes to the new layout throughout the fleet quickly.
Sizzlemann they aren’t currently converting the Heathrow fleet of 777’s to this seat and the 787-10 will arrive with this too. The 747 won’t get it but eventually the other 787’s and A380 will (assuming they stay)
I went to HT5. British Airways Sydney to London via Singapore in Economy. On my way back, I travelled Premium Economy. Quite a nice flight, and not on a 747. 🤨. Anyway, I like your videos 😃 (HAPPY 400K SUBS!) I wouldn’t resist the scones either 😂
Ethan Pender do you stay on the plane at Singapore or have to get off and wander around the terminal. I was supposed to go this month but can’t now for obvious reasons and was curious as to what happens. Assuming you got back on the same plane and didn’t switch that is
Ethan Pender ok good to know thanks. I didn’t know whether only people switching planes would get off or if everyone got off whilst it was refuelled and you got to look around the airport. Hoping to do it in October now
Flew on this route in November. Booked premium economy and got a free upgrade to business class when we arrived at the check in desk. I felt like royalty 😂
Their 747’s World Traveller Cabin was always 10 abreast 3-4-3... This shot was from the rear cabin, where the fuselage tapers narrower, therefore less seats. If you used your eyes and looked towards the front end of the cabin, you would have noticed that the rest is 3-4-3.
To be fair, it seems like the 86J 747's were replaced by Boeing 777's and the 52J 747's were replaced by the Airbus A350's. (Although the routes that did use 777-300ER before seem to be allocated with 787-9's)
Is it nauseating sitting backwards on a plane? I feel like it would be, especially on take off. I've only sat forwards on planes, and don't feel nausea, but having sat backwards on the Eurostar train, I felt proper sick by the time I got to Paris and really wished I'd caught a plane.
