G-I-LFI-LAN spells Gilligan...wait, that's not right, wasn't it Harrigan? Someone said that those Solar caps never go bad, lol. I think it was Lucky Larry, but I could be wrong. That Packard Bell radio on Gilligan's Island had a fake telescoping antenna on it as it was only AM and already had an internal antenna. On the first couple episodes of that show they had a Hallicrafters S-40...but they had a microphone hooked up to it as if it were a two-way, lol. I was watching The Munsters yesterday and Grandpa had a chassis and a horn speakers and blew an inch of dust off an ST tube and said it was an "old" tube, plugged it into the radio and started receiving news of Nero fiddling while Rome burned. Grandpa said "Boy, these are some really old tubes"! Noticed on another episode they had what appeared to be an Atwater Kent cathedral set. I had a big Sparton Console years ago that sounded awesome (had to let it go when I moved)...now I'm jealous, :) "Scotched In Scotland" was a great 3 stooges episode. My favorite quote was Shemp saying, "Hey Lorna, How ya doon?" Suggestion, When the metal is pitted, use some body filler on it, then sand & paint. Little Gilfillan turned out pretty nice.
Very nice. I hate to mention it, but in the reveal isn't there a noticeable bend at the center of the top of the face plate flange, where it contacts the wood panel? I was impressed that you removed so much of the pitting. I didn't like that you obscured the lettering on the IF transformers. That radio in the background looks gorgeous. Personally, I would have used a 68uF in place of 60uF - increasing filter capacitance rather than decreasing from spec. Your skill with wood stain and toning is impressive. That cabinet was improved significantly. The background music goes along very well with the project.
Hey Buzz, is that great big Sparten radio with the push buttons in the garage going to be your next project? I have a Sparten 867 that still needs an alignment but other that that it's good to go! Great video bud.

Little Gilfillan turned out pretty nice.
wow Gary, you're just a wealth of knowledge!!!😵😵😵😵
A little glazing putty will smooth out the rust bumps.
🍺
Excellent results Buzz. All the effort was worthwhile.
Did you have a chance to check out ‘The secret life of machines’ yet?
All the best
Lynton
I will check it out pronto, thanks my friend, Buzz
There is a bend there, but that's water under the bridge
Nice
Thanks, glad to oblige, Buzz
Another great video, Buzz! Till by The Angles was perfect. Were those Ann's heels in front of the mirror?
mirror?
@@Buzz1151 At 9:25 into the video.....
@@dennism48317 OMG..have you got good eyes or what? haha..I WISH they were Ann's shoes.😮😮😮😮
...those old paper capacitors are a disaster that's waiting to happen- I'd replace them all!!
😜
The radio MAY be older than I am. I came out of the blocks in August 1946.
1946 was a great year....Troops came home and were making babies!!! cheers
Hey Buzz, is that great big Sparten radio with the push buttons in the garage going to be your next project? I have a Sparten 867 that still needs an alignment but other that that it's good to go! Great video bud.
Yes it will,,,😃😃😃😃
15:17...that particular cabinet doesn't look like it's all that it's cracked up to be-!!!
(get it? get it? get it? snucker-snucker-snucker-snucker!!)
😎
Excellent video and restoration!! Keep up the good work!!!! By the way, are you sure the brown stain you put on the cabinet wasn't from the stained undies??? 😱 Also, why aren't you wearing a mask?? 😷😷 😂😂😂
Im sure some poop was mixed in with the stain, haha, but it smells OK...I am wearing a mask..😷😷😷😷😷
Very well done Buzz.... bravo.... Where do you get your toner ? I've looked around and cannot find it. Its a really nice radio - thank you .

...I wonder if that paint on the IF cans will burn and smell with the nearby heat of the tubes?
i dont think so
...only one way to find out-!!!
Solar is still around as a brand of professional battery chargers and jump start packs.
gotta give them caps their due, they sill worked after 70 years...
20:54...just because it "looks good"- that doesn't mean that you want to EAT it(!)
🎂
Is it possible that the grill was electroplated with copper?
looked liked it was
give the grill to john he will rust treat it and paint it
I gave it John's rust treatment, vinegar 👍
30:00...and they are too chintzy to buy a new rectifier tube(?)
no use wasting money if the radio keeps blowing the tube
keep your fingers away from the speaker Buzz
👍
