Rotary Lobe Pump: What Is It? How Does It Work?

  • The pumping action of the rotary lobe pump principle is generated by the counter rotation of two (or three) rotors within a chamber. What is installed in the pump housing and how does it pump liquid? How does a Roots pump work?

Dude, how is possible that I discovered this amazing channel so late???! 🤯 I am at the 3rd year of the engineering high school, and we were learning about the stuff in your videos. I know it now, but If our teacher had showed us your videos, understanding would have been much easier.... I must show him because even though we are czech, I think that even the animation itself has a great value and with his theory, it would be overall better to understand. So, amazing video, I am subscribing right now 😃

now this is a gold nugget and a historic gem on youtube amazing was needing a bit of info on understanding how pumps work.. this blew my mind.. now i can make superjets ^_^

Thanks for the invite ! Single double and triple screw. Pros and cons pump vs pump. More valve content, single and array systems. Solenoid types. Types and principles of rotary drives. Seal principles. General agri/agro hydraulics. Security valves. Oodles to take from, no time to be lazy on fine new uploads :))

You mention that supperchargers are used on 4 stroke engines wich is not wrong but they are also used on 2 stroke engines aswell as many other types. Great video and I enjoy your content!

When describing multiple stages of things like this, it probably would be good to slow down the animation to match the speed each step is being described, and highlight which part of the system is being talked about.
And maybe it could work to first show it working at the usual speed it's animated for a few cycles for general familiarization, then slow down the animation for the description, and once the description is finished, speed the animation back up and run for a few cycles to let the viewer observe what they just learned in a more?

Yes, it's possible. I need to figure out how to slow down the simulation in the program. Because if I make less FPS, it will be ugly, the video will seem to "lag"

    • @tiagotiagot
      @tiagotiagot 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@hydraulicandpneumaticsyste3253 If the app you use doesn't handle changing the simulation speed during the simulation, an alternative could be rendering the whole thing slower, and speeding up the faster segments in a video editor app (ramping up and down instead of an abrupt changes would probably look better; see if your video editor app has that functionality)

@@hydraulicandpneumaticsyste3253 Btw, I remembered there's some apps that let you create relatively high quality slowmo from regular video; one in specific I've seen suggested is Flowframes. Might be worth a try, specially if calculating the simulation itself in slowmo takes too long.

Was wondering if supercharger is just a specialized basic pump, this explains it so goooooooooooooooood!

The fluid animation doesn't show pumping, it should start with fluid on both side at the same pressure. You would still see water flow from right to left if the pump was just a tube, because there is only water on the right at t0. This just shows the internal motion of the rotors.

This can somehow work into like a filtering of fishtank maybe? To keep reusing water but wastes splitted this way?

If waterflow middle cold(gadolinium, osmium, einsteinium)/cool metal(neodymium magnet), then if have at fan area or airconditioner, maybe can be easy coolness without water(or with water/flow of at aircon)?

I used to work in food production. We used this exact type of pump to move product from on tank to another.
After the pump, we installed a pneumatic piston valve connected to two inline basket strainers (this allows to check the strainers without interrupting flow of product) followed by two inline magnets.
I'm sure you could setup something like that for your fishtank.
One thing to keep in mind though, is that this type of pump also works as a emulsifier.

According to the principle of operation, these pumps belong to the class of positive displacement, which means that they work by changing the volume of the working chamber. The fluid does not move through the engagement, but along the perimeter. In the suction zone, the rotors disengage, the volume of the working chamber increases, roughly speaking, the rotors clear the volume for the liquid that occupies this free volume. then the liquid is trapped between the surfaces of the rotor and the housing, and is transferred around the perimeter to the injection area, where the rotors engage. They displace liquid from the volume it occupies. The volume of the working chamber is reduced here. The liquid is forced out into the pressure pipe. Analogies with an ordinary water wheel can confuse here, here the principles of operation are different.
