Good video, this shock is kinda boring I guess so it doesn't get much press. Have had several other Monarchs models and so far no issues, just ordered the the Plus RC3. Just a note to anyone watching this, DONT just load up your shock with volume reducers its frame (suspension curve) dependent... On my Intense Primer I am running no reducers and wish I could ease back on the ramp up near bottom out just a hair more on some trails. Now on my last bike I ran the max amount of reducers possible. same trails same weight same speed.
Well the old canyon strive that is shown in the video has the 2nd most progressive frame layout, coming up just behind the YT Capra. Hence that, the rebound just wasn't enough for me.
@@themtbdude0141 interesting timing, my friend just installed the RS Super Delux (I think its very much the same shock with a larger shaft maybe another small tweak) and is having that issue... a very progressive frame so he also needs more rebound dampening once he sets the sag/pressure. he is a bigger dude, like 200 220lbs maybe. Guessing its possible to tune the rebound, I am pretty sure I have seen used RC3's with Medium compression and High rebound compression set ups from OEM. so weird that with retail prices of around $450 you cant order them in the tune you need. I am positive I Will never buy a new shock again, new old stock or take offs and take the money I save for a custom tune. The RC3 I bought was an OEM spec L/L tune and its night and day the bike is just so much better than the stock M/M.
i use RockShox Monarch Plus Rc3 DebonAir in my giant reign advanced carbon, after one year ride there a leak in rebound knob, much oil bleed out , and now it unable to lock.... after i send to my lokal bike shop they try to open the camber, but they fail because it really hard to open . this time i dont now what should i do, i live in indonesia, and i dont now where is rockshox official dealer , thank for answer
Great video, i have same shock, doing a 50 hr service (easy), never heard anyone checking the air pressure in the ifp reservoir (the small one) i know it goes to 250psi. Should it be done??
Thank you for this review dude, I recently bought a used Specialized Enduro Comp 650B and the I had to get the shock rebuilt because it was getting stuck, from cracked seals and so on (due to sitting for 3 years). therefore my question is how often should I be getting this shock rebuilt throughout 1 year of riding it?
I just bought a bike with this shock but when I move the switch to any other position that the furthest forward (where the switch is pointing towards the front wheel) and compress the shock I feel a harsh bump come through the shock. Any ideas what this or how to fix it?
This is a common problem of the monarch, yours probably needs to be serviced. I had the same issue and after servicing the shock, everything was fine again.
Thanks for this review. I'm wondering after two years now if you're still having problems with the shock failing, or if the latest shock is still holding up?
@@themtbdude0141 It feels nice but I was expecting the closed position to lock the shock. It still compresses, although it's more firm. Is this normal? You can see here the compression on the different settings: th-cam.com/video/TGbK7rZZZaQ/w-d-xo.html
Hey TheMtbDude 01. So you talk about tokens for this shock. What kind does is use? Because the only ones i seem to be able to find are the rubber band kind of tokens. Not bottomless ones? Im i just not looking the right way or?
I like your style ;) I would only switch the intro music because this song was already used in Peter MacKinnon s intro. I would pick something else, so you will make your videos more personal and uniqe ;)
Hey man, i bought that shox and when i bought it it was bleeding a little i dont know is this problem, because when i ride on it its like bleeding not too much.Is it a problem
It isn't a problem at all if there's an oil film on the coil. It ensures that the shock is running smoothly. However, if there's more oil literally leaking out from elsewhere, u should propably get it serviced man
because your ifp pressure is low as they come from the factory with loose schrader valve cores. You need to re-bleed the damping system and reset ifp depth and pump it back up.
what do you mean by 'knock'? I have this shock and it does a weird thing in the middle of compression, it feels like it's hitting something inside, and it makes something like a knock sound.....
@@themtbdude0141 75 kilos here, maybe 80 with gear, and I run 280 PSI on my Strive (same as yours) 🙈actually have kinda the same sag in dh mode, around 25%, I'm missing the tokens though

how does this have so few vies, its amazing, professional quality with really nice details.
Thanks bro🔥😉appreciate it
I have the same bike and shock, absolutely love them!
Holy shit this video quality is so underrated. I hope TH-cam algorithm will strike you like a storm
Haha we'll see man. Thanks!

Just visit rockshox.com and search for an official dealership.

You really have a super high potential in mtb video making and bike riding, I really liked your video ! :]

Cool bike. Thanks for the review, very helpful.
Thanks 🔥
Thanks for this review. I'm wondering after two years now if you're still having problems with the shock failing, or if the latest shock is still holding up?
The shock is still squeaking a little. I guess the monarch is just a tad louder and makes cracking noises after some time.
@@themtbdude0141 Thanks, my RC3 just arrived yesterday. I'm replacing a Monarch R shock (with no pedal assist) and hoping it will be reliable :|
Let me know if you like the RC3 bro

This is completely normal. A stiff shock isn't possible since the oil flow in the chambers of the damper is only reduced, not restrained.
Good video, and we have the same phone
Huawei mate 20 pro

How do I calculate the bodyweight - psi ratio?
