I came to this same realization earlier this year. At 64 I found myself sitting in my 1500 sq ft house, now alone, thinking “ is this all there is?” Am I going to continue to work my butt off just so I can pay the rent? Then a vision came to me , to get rid of all my stuff and live in an rv where I can travel and be free. I happened across TH-cam videos about the nomadic life....I was hooked and have been hooked ever since. Been doing a ton of research and plan on getting out of this cage by fall of 2021...if not sooner! Thank you Erin and Bob for all your inspiration! You are Spot On with your philosophy and wish I had been enlightened years ago. I was to busy running non stop on society’s hamster wheel! Great video! Peace and Love!

We are brought up to think that
Life is about working and buying and paying rent.
Watching our parents be miserable and depressed and either drink or take prescription drugs to get through their long days.
Fear is what holds us back
Worrying about what to do without health insurance or a stable full time job that pays the hefty rent.
I am doing my homework now
I have 2 more years until I retire
I want to get a truck camper for that four season life.
I can’t wait to visit Canada and Alaska.
      I might just stay!!

I felt exactly the same as you,so at 63 I sold my house ,my car,and packed in my job.this year bought a bicycle and a tent and cycled down to turkey from the uk.covid ruined my plans this year ,soon as things get back to normal I'm off to Australia overland.the hardest part was actually walking out that door ,once I achieved that the rest was easy and know I feel I am actually living.

I'm 63 and just moved out of my sticks and bricks 3 weeks ago and now living in my house on wheels. It is definitely an adjustment, but thankful that I did it and am on my way to freedom. I am now in charge of how much or how little I work, where I live and how much money I need to spend. Good luck to you and God Bless your new adventures👍

11:43 it's "houseless", not homeless. The land is our home...and that's why we free roam.
Apartments, suburbs, trailer parks, ECT...all are "slave ships"...
    It's a matter of perspective.
    Good conversation guys.
She's says, what I've been preaching for years. It's nice to know others feel/know the same (which is a small percentage of the masses). ✌️

This really resonates with me. My mother has her home paid off but it's falling apart and repairs are expensive. My dad has spent the last 12 years of his life working on this old house and he is nearly 70. He chooses to be trapped in this cycle of repairs and the house is never done.
When I graduated high school my dream was to travel and be free and my dad pooped all over that. I've spent so much of my life doing what is expected of me and I'm tired, I'm about to turn 37 on Friday and I'm tired. I am not married and have no kids because I always wanted to stay free.
These videos have rekindled my dreams and I'm working on making them a reality.
    Thank you.

Thank you Erin for sharing. I have the same mental difficulties. I live half of the year on a small houseboat and it’s so freeing to focus on myself and take care of my health and my mental health. I am an artist and it allows me to focus on making art. My bills are low and my stress decreases but my partner is ill and I am looking at selling and getting in a van/RV. My problem is letting go of my stuff that’s in storage from my past life. Working on that old mentality. Because at 60 I want to feel lighter. I bought a TT and just need something to pull it. I ask myself every day which pill, the red or the blue. I am aware we are in the matrix and now retired I can truly see it. God bless you and thank you for sharing.

I think a lot of van life boils down to whether or not you want/have a family. Raising a child and making a relationship on the road would be doable but difficult. I've raised a family but am divorced now and the kids are adults. Part of me still craves the family unit. But the other part knows its over. When you mentioned your happy place it made me think of what I love and where I like to go for my happy place. It is definitely nature. I discovered a beautiful lake the other week on my travels. It was just so peaceful sitting there eating my lunch and listening to NOTHING. I also just love trees. I just love everything about them. They are strong and sturdy, yet gentle and comforting at the same time. Can anyone else relate?

    • @Gwen3344
      @Gwen3344 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes Bron. I totally relate. Trees are my favorite "things". If I am near a tree, I'm content. And yes, use those exact same qualities to describe my experience of trees: strong, sturdy, comforting -- also inspiring in their quiet but important to contribution to Life on Planet Earth. I crave the serene green of nature that trees perfectly epitomize.

Plenty of truth here. People don't realize they live in a cage and if they do they're too fearful to step out of it. And I sincerely believe the system is terrified of people waking up and taking the initiative. Pretty amazing what fear can do. Happy trails!!! Waking up to a sunrise with the Vermillian cliffs in front of you is better than watching a roach crawl across your apartment wall.

@outlierrin I have been subscribed to Bobs' youtube channel for awhile now; and am very appreciative to watch your video and hear your voice. I am a 46 year old Chicasaw Indian, Italian, Jewish male (labeled as an African American) male, who has struggled his entire life with "who to be" in life. Have always known that I am a true nomadic gypsy Indigo; thats just exactly in agreement with what you are stating. I have been searching my entire life for exactly what you are stating, maybe it doesn't exist yet. WOW, I LOVE THAT YOU SAID THAT! It really does stress me out, have had so much anxiety about that topic in the midst of just wanting to just run away and join the circus so to speak. My PTSD comes from many experiences of trauma in my life; and I am not afraid knowing that. And, I am a lion in a cage, hell my name "Leonard" means lion strength.. I am not a caged being by any means, but everyone that I know are. My Shamanic life gets lonely, but I know that I would not have it any other way. I presently am attempting to get a Toyota Tacoma so I can be back on the road. The last 3 years I lived in a semi tractor because I was a company driver after getting my CDL A. I want to manifest a mobile trailer tiny house to hitch to in the future. I LOVE WHAT YOU ARE DOING. Has anyone ever told you that you resemble Sigourney Weaver, you're absolutely STUNNING?

People are very threatened by ideas, concepts, way of life, etc. that is not in their "way of perceiving things". It can be very scary to them...because in an illusionary way they can feel unvalidated. Keep on keepin on!! You not only have a new freedom, chance at meeting different people from all over, seeing different sites, living VERY close to nature, but also some extra dollar bills in your back pocket!!!

Wow this video described so much how I feel and the anxiety we have around telling people in our lives we’ve decided to liquidate and travel in a camper. My husband and I are 38 and 41 so we might be going through a midlife crisis. Our daughter is now 20 and has moved away. We both grew up extremely poor and have been money driven and savers. We planned on retiring in 20 years and taking on our RV adventures with our freedom and with no need to work. About a week ago I was watching the movie ghost, I’ve seen it several times and for some reason I broke down and cried. My husband is my whole world besides our daughter, and I realized life is too short to hate. We could die any day with amount of stress my job and the safety issues of his job. We want to wake up and look at a mountain or see the northern lights and hike the trails of Utah. I want to meet people from all over without having to plan everyday of my life. We worked so hard and created a beautiful box like you mentioned and I’m still complaining about how miserable I am getting up and having to work so much. Well how else will I continue to fund my retirement, or buy nice things, or pay for my house, or continue to buy new cars. Ugh pardon my French but who gives a fuck if you are still complaining and unhappy! I went out and bought everything I wanted and built all this stuff around me and I’m still not happy. Thought more money, more education, more stuff would keep me happy but it didn’t in the end. We are going to do this and it’s the most exciting thing next to the birth of my child and just like having a child in high school scared to death. We will be leaving our jobs and do hope to find means of employment but I’m not going to even worry about that for the first 6 months. We are scared of the health insurance issue and working to figure that out. Plus after watching that nomad movie (no idea Bob was a real person). Thought he was random actor, so if see you down the road is true I’m extremely sorry about your son if you read this. My biggest concern is though I feel most people are good and honest. I’m scared of the unknown and maybe I’ve listened to too many crime podcasts but we are choosing this life. Now I believe everyone chooses to a certain extent their way of life but unlike in nomad we aren’t pushed into this life like Frances McDermott character. Yes, she found piece in it all and loves seeing new places but she continues to need to work. We will work and never had a problem with an honest days labor my favorite job was working in a restaurant kitchen and my husband once dug ditches. But we have gotten used to a custom of living and my husband has bad neck problems. Which means I need a camper. We aren’t flashy people but from some of what I’m seeing we might be compared to others. What I’m asking to anybody out there is this dangerous mingling and being a minimalist? Anybody who wants to reply, please let me know because if there is anything I can do to avoid being a victim of crime, please tell me now. Any other comments I’d love to hear.. thank you

This is one of my favorite interviews ever thank you so much both of you Erinn and Bob I have been on the road for a few years now and I'm going to be forwarding this to several people that just don't get it and I think they want to feel Superior partly and it's confusing because it's a lifestyle change that is so drastic, and yes we've been programmed since day one to follow the crowd I see so many times how people will keep each other online with conforming we do it without even realizing. It’s like Groundhog Day! I took antidepressant for my last 7 yrs of work. I really wanted to make it until I was at least 57 but no go I had finally had it at 53. It was a struggle to go into work each night and I was negative ,grumpy and didn’t want to be there anymore. I didn’t like who I was becoming, a grumpy negative person and angry that I had to be there.I knew quitting work could possibly ruin my marriage and life as I knew it but I couldn’t stay at the job either so I quit. Each day now I’m thankful that I don’t have to do it and I still have my marriage.

I love spiders 💕🕷They are such helpful little critters. Take care of the flies and mozzies and don't bother you at all. After watching Lucas The Spider I've also started talking to them. Spiders are the best 😍 PS: I live in a place where there are no dangerous spiders. If I was living in OZ or the likes I'd of course be more careful about keeping my distance.

I bought a shuttle bus, I converted it, but it's not all the way done as far as getting the 12 volt pump in for water.
My son-in-law's going to do that he's a plumber, lol!
my dream is to be able to retire and follow the weather. I'm probably going to rent my house out as an air B & B. I'm just camping in my bus for right now.
I most definitely want to travel all over the place and I really do want to go to Panama.. I might even try to live off the grid down there one of these days , I don't know..
I get what Erin was saying. I try not to get into the robot mode of everyday living.
I live by myself right now and that is very freeing in itself ,although I miss my kids very very much.. they're all adults now.
But ......if I don't want to make dinner I don't make dinner, if I don't want to wash the dishes I don't wash dishes, but no I'm not a little pig or anything hahaha!
I try to break up the routine and make it to where I'm doing things that I want to do that makes me happy.
My parents never really encouraged me to go to college... they just figured I was going to get married and have kids I guess, lol!
Which I did . I have four ,but I'm divorced, been divorced since 1995.
I love love loved raising my kids but I didn't like to have to go home and cook on a schedule. It was just getting old and weird but I knew I had to do it which I did and I enjoyed it but I kind of felt like I was in a cage.
Oh my gosh, I don't want to sound mean towards my family at all but it's just hard to explain.
Getting a job that you're forced to get to pay the bills just wears you out. Society pressure to get whatever kind of house and whatever kind of car.
Of course I know we need to contribute to society as far as having jobs that helps out people.
As well as making a living and being able to feed yourself, house yourself and pursuit happiness.
We have to work to live but I sure as hell don't live to work, lol!
    Nobody does.
I just want to see the whole entire world. Unfortunately you do have to work to make money to do that and I wish I could retire now and just live off of Social Security ...but I guess that's a bit of a joke as well.
We all should be able to see at least all the United States or whatever country people live in and go explore this magnificent Earth.
Sorry I got a little windy and this is so long.
I absolutely want to live off the grid and live the nomadic life.
The money thing just kind of scares me. Not really scares me, but is a thorn in my side..
Thanks for all your inspirational videos. I always have absolutely loved them and that is what got me to get a shuttle bus and convert it.
My bus is my absolute Nirvana. I made it super comfortable and really pretty inside as well as functional..
Okay... again thank you so much for all your inspirational videos Bob!!!

WOW,.....just wow! I mean, what a great videolog. One of philosophy and life in general. I appreciate this message. Most of society who lives in single family homes, apartments are by and large dependent upon the "system" and especially during the pandemic, live in quiet desperation. Most every one who has a social security number is dependent in some way. They are conditioned by societal norms to comply. Whereas ppl who live on the road have much less to worry about in various ways with much less bills to pay. Living as a Nomad offers more social opportunities than living in a house. Many positives there abound. I believe living as a Nomad is very admirable. It is also a choice. I have worked 44 years in corporate America and have paid my dues. Property taxes pay for the road tax we as Americans utilize for our daily needs, etc. I own my "cage", I have no neighbors and I also love living here. It does not own me. It is not luck at all, but hard work, which is also a choice. I travel half time now and have enjoyed my journey despite it's ups and heady downs, tragedies and beauty days. While I feel for the Millennials, everyone has a story. My parents escaped a war torn country in 1956/Communism. We are lucky to be alive. We "smiled in English". We were a poor family and struggled to make ends meet. My parents instilled in us the confidence to never give up, work hard and to give "back" to America. Society is too busy trying to comply, especially with mass consumerism, living within the ferris-wheel of insanity. I realize, this is not a story about me, but the point I like to make is living in BALANCE and when One wakes up to it, you will have awoken and you will feel free. Whatever choice One makes. I really appreciate Erins' depth and wisdom. Thank you for sharing your life with your viewing audience. Thank you Bob for your continued wonder "full" videos. A+

I love this chat so much. I love what Erin says about nomadic life just not being something that has been invented yet. We are in the process of transitioning out of our sticks and bricks into an RV and I have been saying that this is going to be more and more common and it is happening. I think people who haven’t thought of living different fear this because they equate it with someone who is down and out. The more stories they hear about this being a strategic decision for living and see people making this change, that perception will go away. Keep sharing these stories so we can break away from the norm!

I just wanted to say, thanks for the video, loved it and think yall are both great. Furthermore, I think those of us that live this lifestyle, are drawn to this lifestyle and crave this lifestyle are those of us drawn to a life of simplicity and self reliance. For me, it is not a denial of modernity, just a recognition that I prefer a more primitive lifestyle. I try to not let that juxtaposition with my friends and my families lifestyle choice be cause for self doubt.

Its called “pioneer spirit”. The pacific north west was built on it. All the midwest folks were settlers because they settled on the crap that was there on their way out west. The ocean and promise of gold is what stopped pioneers, that or death on a perilous journey. I think a lot of van lifers have that pioneer spirit and its a wonderful thing to keep alive in America. Its the same kind of grit people that sail around the world have.

@@abrahanrodriguez9003 thanks! Sometimes, I’m full of crap, but this time, I think I’m on to something. Its interesting they talk about people being stuck in “cages”. I however, view my van as a way to find the cage I want to settle into. It sucks to live somewhere it snows when you have to work outside. I would love to find a nice weather place to live and work in (van or not).

  • @EdwardGomillion
    @EdwardGomillion 3 ปีที่แล้ว

The challenge with parking in a neighborhood where there is an ordinance is not because of you. You are not the problem. However, there is a very real problem. The problem is homeless individuals or groups that are on the street or living in their car because of drug abuse, mental illness, or on the run from the law. These individuals (as a group) have a history of bringing crime to an area to obtain resources they need to buy drugs, food, etc. They are not honorable in their actions or intent. You are. When law enforcement or residents of a community see someone sleeping in their car they have no way to tell the difference and fear kicks in. The more nomads show grace, patience, respect, and understanding to communities the better of we will be to build a bridge over their fear. They need to be educated between a nomad by choice and a criminal on the street. You both are doing a great job of doing exactly that. Well done.

I’m 27. I’ve enjoyed living with less, especially while I was in the Army for the last 8 years. Now I’m a civilian, I’ve graduated college, pursued a decent paying job, still go to school online full time and teach in the evenings after work. I make decent money but I am not happy at all with where I’m at in life. I feel like waking up, gym, work, school, work, eat, pay bills, is not what life is about. I love taking a weekend and going camping but am absolutely saddened when I have to pack up. I want to just tear away from society and become a nomad.
