Here’s a mostly pointless theory: At the end of part 3, it is revealed that Al Yankovic canonically exists in the Jojo universe, and that he parodied the song “Beat It.” This implies that Michael Jackson, the original singer of the song, also canonically exists. Illuso’s stand, Man in the Mirror, is named after a Michael Jackson song. Therefore, Illuso knowingly named his stand after a Michael Jackson song.
Also, Michael Jackson is mentioned in part 6 by DIO in a flashback(?), possibly finishing up the Bad Tour (1987-1989), considering Part 3 took place in 1989.

Some additional thoughts on Illuso. His musical reference is pretty significant for his effect on the protagonists. Abbachio and Fugo each fall behind Illuso initially as they each try to fight as individuals rather than as a team. They are so prepared to sacrifice themselves for the mission that they unwittingly leave themselves without any other option. Giorno is able to clinch the fight as he was always thinking of them as a collective group and victory is only achieved by a culmination of all three of their abilities. In other words, when Abbachio and Fugo face the literal Man in the Mirror, they are also facing themselves and their needs to have faith in their teams. By accepting that, they are each able to escape certain death. However, this theme of metaphorical self-reflection mixed with the literal also extends to Illuso himself. While he often acts extremely proud, it's when things start to turn against him that he shows his true colors. Illuso is a coward and seems to be dealing with anxiety. When he severs his own arm, it's clear from his emotional state that this is something he is afraid he won't be able to do and has to force himself through it. His sense of resolve is highlighted as his greatest concern and his greatest struggle. It makes sense that his Stand would have an ability that puts his opponents at such a disadvantage as it's the only way a man dealing with such low confidence as Illuso could ever function as an assassin. However, if you're able to fight him on equal footing, he proves to be surprisingly weak-willed and even non-combat Stands can completely curbstomp his. Illuso is forced to fight his own man-in-the-mirror throughout the battle and ultimately isn't able to match the unity of our heroes. If he were to ally with even one more member of La Squadra, he most likely could have secured victory, but Illuso likely prefers to work alone out of fear that those close to him would learn of his low self-esteem that he works so hard to hide behind his veil of arrogant pride.
It's not really Araki saying this, it's Kakyoin telling Polnareff that he's think of the ability wrong. There is no world inside the mirror in the case of Hanged Man, so he's not wrong. Illuso doesn't disprove this statement in terms of Hanged Man.
That King Yama connection Illuso has is actually really cool and interesting; I never would've guessed it. Illuso throughout the arc DOES go on about how HE'S the only one who can choose what goes in and out of the world inside the mirror, practically lording it over Fugo and co. and even having to vocalise to his own Stand when he wants to "permit" a single person or body part to enter or leave the mirror world. As for when you were talking about how he's the cockroach of La Squadra... yeah, I'm probably not the only one who's reminded of Steely Dan from Part 3, right? Both of them rob agency from their opponents, and then toy with them until it's too late and they've got their backs against the wall.
I've heard some people calling Illuso Steely Dan's secret child or something, and it's true, they have a lot of similarities, but honestly, I think Steely Dan was even a worse person than Illuso. Also Illuso seemed to have some self respect, while Steely Dan allowed himself to get humiliated only to threaten to kill a child a few moments after his life was spared.

I think ar aki had abbachio, giorno, and fugo be the ones to go fight man in the mirror because these guys want to "make a change" and change something in their lives or the world around them. Abbachio keeps thinking about his past. Fugo wants to control his anger. Giorno wants to stop the drug trade in Italy. Did ar aki chokse pompeii as a sight for the fight to represent the mindset of abbachio and fugo as two guys who saw their futures as ruined until they met giorno.
Seeing you cover most of the villains in Part 5 makes me hopeful that we'll be getting a Beauty of Vinegar Doppio video when the current season of the anime is over

I find it interesting that (tmk) there has been 2 "mirror" stands so far, Hanged Man and Man in the Mirror, in both their fights their opponents at some point try to attack them by breaking the mirror they appear within, and in both cases it's revealed "you thought breaking the mirror would harm me/ keep me from attacking you, but actually I'm fine and you've just given me more mirrors, and by extension, more angles of attack"
When i first read the manga illuso was one of the only antagonists of part 5 that actually scared the shit out of me and made me worry about the protagonists

One detail you forgot to mention was that even summoning your stand in the mirror world, doesnt make it summon behind you, but in the real world. This actually leads to a weird weakness to Mirror-man-in-the-man-mirror-man. The stand can still move objects in the real world, and it'll reflect into the mirror world, so in theory, a Stand summoned by a user in the mirror world, can pick up and use objects in the real world, and swing them in the area that Illuso or his stand is currently occupying int he mirror world. Short ranged stands like Purple Haze might be pretty limited and could probably only exist in the area they were summoned, or the equivalent location to the stand user in the real world, but longer ranged stands could probably just sneak behind illuso, pick up a brick, and try to smack him in the back of the head, since objects do get mirrored into the mirror world.

Man In The Mirror can dissallows any Stand abilities exist or happens in the mirror world. There's no exact true answer for that,however I have two conclusion : 1.) Nothing happens in the mirror world. Though looking outside will shows the effect of broken universe thing by KC's power. 2.) Time skips in the mirror world. But the ability of Diavolo's full control in the erased time is nullified,so only KC retain full consciousness but since Diavolo/its user is not,KC cannot be controlled to the fullest.

It seemed weird in SC tho when everyone just conveniently names theirs after tarot cards. It's quite funny to think about since it's the only one where they literally discuss the cards and Jotaro has to have his decided for him. After that, everyone just instinctively knows their stand's names.
What I don't get is how Illuso didn't just start his 'Fight' with "Man in the mirror, bring Fugo into the mirror world, but leave his head behind!"

*To answer your questions about Man In The Mirror's abilities,I've put something useful down here :)*
*Q* : What'll happen if Jotaro/Dio stops time while Jotaro/Dio is inside the mirror world?
*A* : Time stops outside the mirror world as well in the mirror world,but the ability that only someone that can stop time can move is nullified inside the mirror world.
*Q* : What about the boss' King Crimson time erasement?
*A* : Since its a quite compliacted ability______________________conclusions ;
1.) Nothing happens the mirror world besides any objects that affected by KC's ability. Time is erased outside the mirror,but time still moves normally inside the mirror world.
2.) Time skips as well in the mirror world. However,Diavolo has no full consciouness during 'erased time' and he is also,one of the slaves of fate as well as Illuso. However,KC is fully conscious outside the mirror but since the boss can't control him fully KC will not do things properly.
*Q* : Hanged Man vs. Man In The Mirror,who will win?
*A* : That depends. But Illuso will win since he attacks from inside mirror world,and Illuso wouldn't be stupid enough to attack another Stand so he targets J. Geil/Centerfold instead.
*Q* : What can counter Man In The Mirror?
*A* : Basically,Stands that affects dead objects. You can see that a brick moves inside the mirror world when outside it has turned into a snake via Golden Experience.
Sale's Kraftwerk can counter him.His stand's ability to give kinetic power to objects is powerful,and since it moves objects with such speed and power,Illuso has no hopes besides to finish Sale quickly. Sure,it takes long time for Sale to use this ability as he needs to tap the object slow and carefully,so yeah.

If yes then it would be pretty interesting to see how Illuso would react to his world being tarnished by the crimson king
Man In The Mirror can dissallows any Stand abilities exist or happens in the mirror world. There's no exact true answer for that,however I have two conclusion :
1.) Nothing happens in the mirror world. Though looking outside will shows the effect of broken universe thing by KC's power.
2.) Time skips in the mirror world. But the ability of Diavolo's full control in the erased time is nullified,so only KC retain full consciousness but since Diavolo/its user is not,KC cannot be controlled to the fullest.
It's certainly a unique situation to think about
