I took a test and I got dark academia which honestly is everything the style too, but I feel like in autumn and winter I dress like dark academia and in summer and spring I dress more cottage core but my “traits” definitely are dark academia.
@@roqayaal-musawy4802 I think Cottagecore and Dark academia are quite mixable! In both styles you can use blouses and vests. Like a cottagecore dress for example with a plaid jacket!

I'm actually fine with not having a certain aesthetic it's fun trying out new things and different styles and I enjoy these videos cuz it gives me more ideas to add on to my different styles/aesthetics

Agreed. I also have multiple styles that I like. BUT I do think it's a bit important what kind of items, colors, textures and shapes you like. And also knowing if you can put each item in atleast one look. You don't wanna end up with an item that doesn't fit with anything lol

"Hogwarts vibes" - I mean, I'm personally convinced that a lot of people got into dark academia through Harry Potter long before they even knew what dark acadmia was. It's certainly true for me that Hogwarts aesthetics hold a big, nostalgic place in my heart. It's the only style I've never fallen out of love with.
Yeah. Im sat watching HP rn and their style is one that I loved and wanted long before I knew their style was basically Dark Academia. I put two and two together when I had Dark Academia photos up and watching HP. That’s when it clicked that they were related in some way.
what is so funny to me is that i hate harry potter in terms of plot and character, even as a kid i couldn’t read or watch it because it was so boring, but i adored and still adore the aesthetic behind it and the magic part of it - i love the universe so much just not the characters and plot (or author lmaooo)

Honestly, this aesthetic is probably one of my favorites but mostly it's the literature and music part that gets me. I don't really dress like that or have a lifestyle like that lol

Yeah. My personality reflects that of Dark Academia but I don’t dress like it, I dress like your average boy, hoodie and sweatpants. I’m hopping to bring giant cheap suit jackets into my style with shorts tho.

For me, it's the reading, the decor, clothing, colors, (Hogwarts😭) and the overall calmness of it
"Miss perigrins home of peculiar children" is a movie that also might fit the aesthetic, as well as "the handmaiden". For series, "Peeky Blinders", "chicago Typewriter", "Hymn of death" and "Its ok to not be ok" (especially their soundtracks) might fit. ^^

dark academia is the perfect aesthetic for me! my favourite colours are dark green, black and gold, i adore libraries, i love tea and put a ton of effort into studying! i also love languages (currently re-learning afrikaans at home and french at school)

I personally have 3 styles! :) They are alt, grunge and dark academia. Honestly… anything that includes mostly black is my weakness. And the mindset kinda fits me too. I’m so happy I found out about them all :)

I'm creating Brown Academia. It's a lower to middle class aesthetic. For those Auto-didactic learners that never could afford college. Focusing on frugal living, The modern philosophy of minimalism is perfect. Academic focus would be Philosophy, history, science, etc. Also learning light home repair along with gardening, and cooking, and the like. The mindset is more Logic and reason based, Realistic philosophies such as Epicurus, Schopenhauer, Camus etc. Working an honest hard day is not shameful, and neither is saving 20% of your income every week for your retirement. But since you are more curious and learned then the average Joe you enjoy some different things. Such as a nice waistcoat and a flat cap. Mixing blue jeans with a dress shirt and waistcoat would not seem unusual on a night out. A cup of tea and a hearty homemade stew would hit the spot. I kind of think of Hobbits.

Well I'd of course say the quartier latin/Latin Quarter where you can find the historical buildings of the Sorbonne, the Pantheon, many libraries such as Shakespeare & co, the Odeon theatre and just the ambiance of the place. Then all the museums, think the Louvre, Orsay but also any small museums you can find hidden literally a street-corner away.
You also have the big landmarks as they all have a history so I'd advise you really take the time to read the information pannels available in many languages and then take the time to visit the area surrounding it as this is where you'll find little gems, by straying away from massively touristic areas (for example if you go to the Sacré-Coeur take some time after that to wander deeper into the Butte-Montmartre little streets). There's also the Place de la Contrescarpe where all students go to have drinks and feels like a village hidden at the centre of the city, you also have to go to the theatre... There's so much stuff to do I could go on and on for hours !
My grandpa wore a dark academia aesthetic, before the term was even coined. Like ... I've rarely seen him in any different clothing. He liked argyle patterns, checked patterns, wool and the colors brown, beige, navy and black. He also liked to wear fancy hats and when he couldn't walk that well anymore, he used a cute, wooden walking stick.

It’s so bizarre to me that you can “live” an aesthetic. I think people don’t know what aesthetic means. I am curious to know if people purposely choose to live according to a lifestyle? Doesn’t it just come naturally? 🧐🧐🧐
Great point! In my opinion, I think aesthetics are what you gravitate towards. They are what you find attractive and you feel best in, kind of what you just said. “It comes naturally”. But I think the people who “live” an aesthetic are the ones who can’t seem to find what they enjoy or gravitate towards. So anything that they might find cool or relevant to today’s trends, they may just throw themselves into it so they feel connected to something.
I think people find aesthetics that fit their "goal self" and find that it helps them move towards those goals.
I love the aesthetic so much, and I realized I did a lot of the hobbies before I knew this existed! I journaled in a brown book everyday and all the pages were in calligraphy cursive (I write in cursive most of the time). I write poems a lot and write short stories and draw. I learn and make music and play the piano. I'm good in school and get A's. I don't know... but this aesthetic just fits me!!

This aesthetic is definitely me, or at least a light version of it. All I’ve ever wanted to do is read, study and learn more, my mind is endlessly thirsty for knowledge. I really enjoyed my career as a scientist, I can’t imagine anything else, except perhaps science teaching and research. Also preppy, academic style was my first style adult aesthetic, and I’ve always been at home in it.

Man I just now realised that YEARS I wanted and do that aesthetic. It’s that as a kid back then I wore many clothes my mom got me and never ever been able to do it fully but I still styled my hair like that and wore such clothes at winter.

This was so helpful, I wasnt really sure with the choice of my aesthetic and I felt the need to have single aesthetic...and then I saw your video and it confirmed how much I love dark academia. Thank you! As someone who sort of just found dark academia and noticed it fits a lot with what I like to wear (what I've been wearing bits and pieces of for the last five years) it was really nice to get a comprehensive short look into it.
It will definitely make it easier to sort out my wardrobe. (Granted, I will keep some items that go with e-girl and modern style just because social settings). But I will definitely now look for items that flow better with how I want to be perceived.
My looks often deceive people into thinking I'm more frilly, less conscious about what goes on around me... And I definitely get perceived as more talkative or approachable than I am.
Not to say that a dark, gloomy aesthetic makes a person appear less approachable... But alas, it kind of does.
I like a lot of different aesthetics but I've never LOVED an aesthetic until dark academia it's suits me to a t and that's not something I can say lightly [I've always fitted into a lot of different categories but never completely] I find dark academia so beautiful, I feel so drawn to it...
