I do enjoy these videos, I love Toyota's as well. That being said, (other than videos of the TRD pro Tundra climbing chilean volcanos) you aren't pushing anything to a test tin these videos. Come to New England and off road some of the trials up here. Yes the vehicles are capable, I've done far more in my off road Tacoma than I thought would be possible. Show everyone what your vehicles can actually handle! (I do wish we had fun trails like in this video around here.)
So, as an action sports guy myself, there's a certain cheesiness to this Toyota marketing plan that comes across as, well, cheesy. That being said, its still entertaining, and I'm still a lifelong 4Runner enthusiast. Keep it up guys!
Sunroof. You have to get a TRD Offroad Premium to get the sunroof and mirror signals (which, I'm sorry, should be effing standard at this point), then add on the Bilsteins, the rims and front skid plate to bring it up to TRD Pro specs. It ends up being a bit more than the TRD Pro, about what you'd pay for a sunroof, but without the much improved TRD Pro front end, which is an additional $600 I think. Oh, and if you want KDSS and sunroof in white? NOPE. You have to get gray or black. But KDSS doesn't come on the TRD Pro anyway, for some reason.
Cool video, showing how the 4Runner can white water raft down a river...as a kayak. K thanx Toyota but I think I'll get my 4Runner videos from a different source.
I think there should be a disclaimer stating, prototype only, because the pro don't come with side mirror blinkers and sunroof. Maybe they changed that for 2017?
I just ordered a '17 trd pro and I couldn't add a sunroof, sub-woofer, or trd exhaust. Not sure about the side mirror blinkers like they have on the limited...
Help! My 2016 4runner is getting an intermittent vibration this cold Chicago weather! The dealership can't figure it out! Toyota please help! I used to like my 4runner and now I've got regrets in buying this!
I absolutely understand and get that it stands for “Toyota Racing Development.” But I really wish Toyota would find a way to make the T.R.D. acronym NOT sound like “turd.”
They aren't going to do anything crazy for what is likely the last model year for this generation. It's going to be the same 4.0 they've had since 2010 or so.
Toyota when are you going to redesign the 4Runner? It still has a 5-speed transmission and old engine tech...the design is dated, the last redesign was 2009.
Yeah. It's ridiculous how long Toyota keeps their truck designs. They have kept this 4Runner design for 9 years and it needs a V8 and an 8 speed automatic transmission. Toyota kept their second generation Tacoma from 2005-2015 model years it was in production for 11 years and the 3rd generation Tacoma uses the same body frame as the second gen they just updated the headlights, rear lights and added some new technology and call it a new gen Tacoma. I guess toyota's motto is "if it isn't broke don't fix it" all auto brands are doing this. The chevy Tahoe, Silverado, and sierra look the same as the previous generation. Automakers know they don't have to do much to their trucks because people are going to buy them anyway regardless.
So I actually just tested a 2017 4x4 SR5 4Runner and the newly redesigned '17 Tacoma 4x4 and I sincerely hope Toyota doesn't screw up the next gen 4Runner the way they screwed up the new Tacoma. What's wrong? Horrible shift points, the suspension is so loose you think the thing is going to roll over into the next lane when making a left turn, rear brakes are drums, and after enlarging the width/length it has lost its nimbleness, giving it the downsides of a full size truck (harder to park in tight parking lots) without the advantages (extra towing, space and comfort, etc).
In Toyota's defense, they did change the engine in the 3rd gen Taco's. Also, the V6's are the size of an old V8 anyway. Get a Tundra or drop a big motor in if you need the extra power that bad or slap on some mods. EDIT: I was sad to see they still have drums on 3rd gens but they do require less maintenance; along with brake assist control too so it's all gravy. You're only pulling 6500lbs at the most (2nd gen) in which you're pulling that much you should probably have trailer brakes.
Lets Go Places!.....yeah well Toyota can you fix the horrific Gas mileage on 4Runners and its 1999 interior design ? I will buy one tomorrow if you fixed the dating 4Runner
The fun part is how many people are going off roadies it’s good for people who love in colorado or flooding areas but Toyota this suv has been the same old since 2014 to 2019 and that’s way to outdated with crappy cosmetic changes to attract customers ..it’s time to change the Toyota 4 runner inside and out with Toyota safety sense ,putting a 3.5 litre engine for fuel efficient other wise people will call it a gas guzzler with no mileage .. this 4 runner should be redesign like the Toyota fortuner with the same truck based platform . That’s my opinion to Toyota ..hoping Toyota listens to everybody’s comments below and do something to this BAD BOY which everyone like 👍
Toyota, please please put new motor in there. That 4.0 L motor is way out-dated. I know you are in process of developing new engines along with TNGA. So please !
Let's see. His trying to beat some guy in a Kayak. He is neck and neck and then demonstrates the ability to rock crawl which slowed him down considerably, then when he is through the rocks, he is just a head of the kayaker??
Probably shot in multiple takes so they could get enough footage. Also, he probably got soaked when parking and moving the 4Runner when it was parked in shallow end of river.
Very Nearly Pure yes I gather the reason why, just a bit half assed. You can see his jeans are wet at the bottom when he's in the 4Runner, so I get why he had to change his clothes, just seems like a bit of a poor effort to make it look professional by using 2 different colored pants.
The 4Runner in this video has a customize clock display area (see: th-cam.com/video/QfqeGu62GLw/w-d-xo.html ) ... Is this stock functionality?/How can this be set up?/What are the options on this? Thanks!! :)
Great video but really disrespectful to park the truck in the Crystal River, I would have expected more from Toyota and Andy Bell; yall should know better
I think someone should remind Toyota that some idiot just rolled a TRDPro 4Runner on one of the easiest sections of Black Bear Pass (way before the switchbacks). A place where you just should not even come near to rolling over.
These fellas have the best job in the world

TOYOTA MY LOVE 😍💚

did this trail in my 2001 montero in 2015. pretty simple easy trail.
would probably switch to better shocks for a more comfort ride next time.
Toua Herr did you race a kayak?
finally a 4runner trd pro vid! more please!
I love my 2015 4Runner TRD Pro, best purchase I ever made next to my 2015 Tundra Platinum.
Toyota make awesome off road vehicles.
LOCATION where this was shot at please .... absolutely beautiful
👍🙌
Best 4Runner

Such a cool SUV. Dream car.

K thanx Toyota but I think I'll get my 4Runner videos from a different source.
great coverage. love it.
When will the 4runner have a manual transmission ? Why can't the same manual transmission in the Tacoma be available for the 4runner ?
Not really a rough road did this in a geo tracker 2wd back in 1994. And there are much much bigger dropoff cliffs on much more narrow overpass roads.
Tracks get rougher and more difficult after 22 years.
I think there should be a disclaimer stating, prototype only, because the pro don't come with side mirror blinkers and sunroof. Maybe they changed that for 2017?
the clock display is different too
I just ordered a '17 trd pro and I couldn't add a sunroof, sub-woofer, or trd exhaust. Not sure about the side mirror blinkers like they have on the limited...
My 15 TRD Pro tacoma has the side mirror blinkers. Im not sure why you cant have them
16 doesn't have em either
There is actually that disclaimer for about two seconds. I noticed it and wondered what was different from stock. Now I know.
@Toyota hey why doesn't my TRD Pro 4Runner not have the TRD stitching on my headrest?!
i love the fj
Yeah, great stuff..... i buy one....
Wait for the LC 70 series rumor says hopefully 2018 in the U.S. It's THE REAL BOY TRUCK of TOYOTA.
TRD pro with a sunroof? Whaaa?
DC
Not available in the US
$53000. It better have a sunroof.
It’s not a sunroof, it’s an escape hatch !
Help! My 2016 4runner is getting an intermittent vibration this cold Chicago weather! The dealership can't figure it out! Toyota please help! I used to like my 4runner and now I've got regrets in buying this!
When is the 2017 4Runner comming
They are taking orders now, and expected to arrive in Feb.
Just got word I should have mine by sometime in January!
movin dirt
Doesn't the trd pro have fox shocks?
Yes
No sunroof or signal mirrors for USA
I was actually looking for some how to use the 4 wd setting tutorials, but can only find this sort of marketing based stuff.

Any engine specs? TRD super charger? $$$?
They aren't going to do anything crazy for what is likely the last model year for this generation. It's going to be the same 4.0 they've had since 2010 or so.
You can add a supercharger but its upwards into $4k. And about 6 hours of labor plus the right tools
I heard super chargers will cause a ot of failure on engine components not designed for more torque or HP.
I dont think so, my friend got one as soon as it came out years ago and it still runs like new. But he has to put 93 gas in it

if they follow suit to how long they kept the 3rd and the 4th gens the same, 2018 will have a redesign
Hey, it works.
Lets Go Places!.....yeah well Toyota can you fix the horrific Gas mileage on 4Runners and its 1999 interior design ? I will buy one tomorrow if you fixed the dating 4Runner

4.0L is a bullet proof engine.

SEATBELT?

He's wearing khakis at the beginning of video, jeans when he gets in 4Runner, and khakis at the bottom of the pas......
Probably shot in multiple takes so they could get enough footage. Also, he probably got soaked when parking and moving the 4Runner when it was parked in shallow end of river.

Concurred good sir! They should hire us xD

Why did it have an oil leak or something?
Great SUV but looks like an old 1980 rock song you hated.
Toyota is BORING!! That is why they don’t want to redesign for much improvement... They must learn from NISSAN....
What boring driveline. Too bad I think these are nice lookers. buuut... thats about it.
I think someone should remind Toyota that some idiot just rolled a TRDPro 4Runner on one of the easiest sections of Black Bear Pass (way before the switchbacks). A place where you just should not even come near to rolling over.
Yeah same section where countless Jeeps get rolled.
Toyota, change the front end to something a little more palatable and i'll buy one. Looks like a gaping fish mouth.
i agree...fugly.
Total disappointment! Don't buy 4runner! My 2016 4runner transfer case is busted after 13k miles!
How'd that happen?
