I've amassed a collection of thousands of CDs since 1988 and have no plans to get rid of them. Good CDs sound great on a good system.

Sep 1988 I bought myself my first cd player. Still buying cd's and records. Bought a new technics turntable acouple years ago and got a new all analog yamaha integrated amplifier. I DON'T NEED STREAMING. 🎸🎸🎸

I still sell CDs 💿 in 2022 Remember not everyone likes streaming even though is rental and is mostly new cars that people stream. CDs 💿 have better sound quality and u own it and support the artist 👩🎨 Remember old cars still have CD players let’s keep buying them and supporting them Physical media is really important

Nice to hear I'm not alone! I have re-committed to my CD's after once considering a sale of all of them to a record store. They will still play perfectly until long after I am gone. Also, I'm starting to get fed up with streaming. As mentioned in this video, often times songs become unavailable on streaming or only specific songs from an album will be available. This seems to be more frequent on TH-cam music, less so on Spotify. Going forward, I think I'd prefer to own my music collection rather than rent it.

I never stopped buying cds, it's better to have the physical media no matter what it is vinyl, cassette or cd. Cassettes are making a comeback as well. When vinyl was being phased out in the 90s, I reverted to cassettes. A friend sold me a cd player in 1999 and so I started collecting cds. That is my go to for physical media still in 2021.
When CDs came along, I missed seeing the album rotating on the turntable, but the sound quality(without scratches, skips, flutter, and wow) makes it worth listening to CDs for me.

i havent stopped buying cds but got into buying vinyl as well i can honestly say vinyl is crap unless you get one that isnt warped,scratched,skipping or bent or damaged sleeves cds are by far the better format for sure
You are correct. A 16/44.1 CD can give a huge dynamic range, flat response from DC to 20KHz and very low distortion. It is down to the recording engineer to do a proper job, but the humble CD is capable of delivering superb audio. The engineers who designed the CD Red Book standard, all those years ago, knew exactly what they were doing.

@@myronhelton4441 what is an SACD? that is just digital audio but with hi-res ultrasound audio on it. let's say your sacd has 24 bit and 96 kHz. you won't hear a difference between 16 and 24 bit because that just tells you the "corridor" between the loudest and the most silent audio signal on the recording.( and when you master your audio like metallica did with death magnetic in 2008, which is a loudness war desaster, where there is no loud or silent, because everything is mastered and brickwalled to death, you could use 12 bit ...)
for the 96 kHz: a human can only hear between 20 Hz and 20 kHz, and the 48 kHz ( that is the actual freuquency you are hearing; the play freuquency is always half the sampling frequency) is way obove the hearing capability of a human.
but I have heard that in some special tests, there were some people who could hear freuqncies from 12 Hz to 24 kHz; but those were exceptions! adn who know if the really heard something or were really good in guessing...
so: a well mastered compact disc can sound absolutely fantastic.

CDs are not cheap they are $15 and up depending on the CDs 💿 there only cheap when there used but let’s keep buying them until the day we die Streaming is garbage 🗑
I am a music artist who has been around for some time. I have seen the different music distribution formats come and go. And that includes the original run of CDs. I still release a lot of my music on CD even now. And I have been predicting a CD revival for at least the last 5-7 years. I think we are right on the verge of a serious resurgence. Numbers were up last year on sales. And the used cd market has tightened up considerably the last few years.
One thing I am glad I kept is all of my CD duplication equipment. From multiple tower burners to multiple thermal CD monochrome and color printers. I can do small runs of CDs that look damn near replication perfect. Including the overwrap and barcodes!
I feel good about the future of the CD. It is gonna hang on for a good few years yet. And that makes me happy. I will always be a physical media fan. 👍

Great video - like you say CDs offer ownership over rental, a choice of mastering (if remastered versions with compressed dynamic range are an issue for you) and the insert. The format is audibly almost untouchable. A good DAC/AMP/speakers/headphones set-up (let’s not get into subjectivists v objectivists - just research and decide on the hardware) and the listening experience is spot on. And you can rip them for on-the-go. Charity shops are a great source for older albums (£1 on average in the UK). The final thing is that listening to the CD pushes the listener towards an ‘album’ listen rather than a ‘playlist’ so you appreciate and discover the lesser known tracks from a given album.

I really haven’t got enough thumbs to show my appreciation for this video! Right now (as of 2021) is the time to buy used CDs or even entire used collections, because you can amazing stuff dirt cheap (and don’t get me started on praising box sets).
I’m at the stage now where I’m not only collect CDs for certain genres or artists but will also be on the lookout for certain names in engineering and (re-)mastering. Indeed, their mark on the quality of a CD is not to be underestimated.
I bet, in about ten years the hipsters of our time will rediscover their sonic range and "oh, no crackling!" -- it’s THE FUTURE for listening to music!

I recently turned 60 and have retired. One of my projects is to upgrade my hi-fi equipment and I've decided to buy a new turntable and recommission my vinyl collection that's been up in the attic for the past 20 years. I've been collecting music since 1970 on 45, 12" singles, 33 Albums, CDs, SACD, HDCD, SHMCD, Blu Spec and of course MP3 files. I'm happy in my multi- format world where each format has its advantages and disadvantages. Every record I've bought has some personal story/memory attached to it and is treasured. There is so much crap and snake oil in the silly debate over which format is best- some folks need to chill! I stopped buying vinyl around 1986 but since then I've never stopped collecting CDs. Like you I've found it difficult to get my head around renting music via a streaming service- until recently. The penny finally dropped while in the attic I came across boxes of old videotapes and DVDs. I suddenly realised the obvious fact that for 5 years I've been happy to pay a monthly subscription to access hundreds of movies on Prime and Netflix! A £20 subscription to a streaming service- the price of 2 CDs- gives me access to 10s of thousands of tracks that even after 50 years of collecting I could never afford to buy or to store! So vinyl, CD and streaming will happily sit side by side in my world in my final stretch of life.

I have a lot to thank CD for. During its heyday, it was responsible for allowing me to get cheap vinyl records and turntables when those who decided to 'go digital' dumped their collections back in the 90s. LP is still my preferred sonic flavouring for the most part but prices have become ridiculous. So what do I do? I start buying CDs of albums I had wanted to own but for my (still) limited financial means. CD can sound very good, no question about that.
Similar strategy here: back in the nineties, I scooped up tons of dirt cheap vinyl as record stores blew out their inventories for CDs. In the past decade or so I've really been loading up on CDs as marketers have convinced the public that they are no longer desirable. I love both formats, and have acquired a large collection by shopping out of phase to these trends. I've also managed to obtain a ton of various playback equipment dirt cheap as people follow the waves and continuously unload their stuff.

Absolutely! Record playing used to be a graphic as well as audio experience (LPs!!!). CDs made that more portable and still retained the audio. Destroy downloads!

We're on the same page. I use streaming for sampling albums and if I really like the music 'll hunt down the CD release of my choice. Listening to CD on a stereo is hands down better than an MP3. If tapes can make a comeback, CD's will also. Like you said, you can collect a whole lot of CD's in a relatively smaller space than vinyl. Listening to a favourite track in the context of the album it's released on is way better than the song on it's own. That's what's missing in today's streaming environment, most artists are nothing more than one hit wonders to listeners. Very few people will stream an album, let alone buy an album download for that one track they want to hear.

I used to buy vinyl albums and cassettes way back in the 80’s until the CD came along. I kept my vinyl record collection (thank God I did) but became a CD convert for life. I’ve never gone back to vinyl, even now when vinyl lp’s are in resurgence. I buy everything on CD. I don’t know if I’ll ever buy a turntable to listen to my old albums again, what for if I have them all on CD.
Same here. I took out my Journey Departure LP a few months ago. I was gonna give it a listen. And it had a crack in it. I have no idea how it got cracked. That's why i buy CDs.

The only time I use streaming is to find out if I like an album enough to buy the cd. I have a high-end audio system with only cd front end, transport and DAC. I will continue to buy cd's, and yes, some sound terrible and others sound wonderful. And the REALLY good ones sound every bit as good as vinyl. P.S. News flash: some vinyl records sound terrible too!
Enjoyed this video and the comments. Thanks! 67 years old so I grew up with music as physical product. Obviously started out with vinyl records and fortunately didn't sell them off when CDs came along (I actually picked up a lot of LPs that were dumped by CD converts). Once I started buying CDs, they caught up with my record collection quickly. I now have a roughly equal number of each, and I tend to play the CDs more because of the convenience. So far, I only burn CDs so that I can have a mistreat-able copy in my old car, and only stream music when I'm at my desktop.
More or less the same as myself. I’m 51, but started collecting and buying records as a little kid in the ‘70s. Got my first CD player in 1986, but never stopped buying records or dumped my record collection. I throughly enjoyed how many vinyl records I was able to score for next to nothing well until a little after 2010. Now I’m loving how cheap I’m able to get used CDs, and stocking my p like never before. I have a 200 CD changer in my bedroom system and 100 CD changer in my living room and much prefer the convenience of letting it do it’s thing over the tedium of clearing and playing records. Streaming, on the other hand, I don’t find convenient at all.

If you don't touch the underside of the CD or scratch it, it can last and play as good as the first time you got it. It is far superior to vinyl.
I started collecting CD's again just last year. I initially was planning on a vinyl collection, but I quickly realized how expensive and challenging that would've been for me, so I figured since I already had a large collection of CD's from over the years just lying dormant why not get it active again? It's a physical media format that I've grown accustomed to for over 20 years now, and I appreciate it more now since we're in an age of digital and streaming media, because I feel like there's more ownership along with artwork, lyrics, etc. We can debate all day about CD quality vs that of vinyl, but when compared to digital quality, it's night and day difference for me, especially with earphones.
Vinyl are good if you collect major bands you not going to find band discography on Vinyl. The thing at least smaller bands example My Sister Machine, Galactic Cowboys releases were on CD then once out of print expensive if it has a core group,

Love looking for Cd's and SACD's is fun/ theraputic, and you can pick up some gems for often very little money.
I prefer physical media with video games & music. Still have my CD collection I started after the CD player was introduced in the U.S.A. My 1st CD player was a Denon, which ran around $1,000 back then, but was worth replacing my LP collection (took up way too much room). I still have the 1st CD I bought in 1990, which is Powermad: Absolute Power, and since I take care of my things, it still looks new. I'd always make copies to take in my car back in the day, so they're all still in great shape.
...plus I can RIP MP3s to take in my MP3 player, if I choose.

It's quite simple , make them desirable. Bring back a reusable long box instead of just selling them with a jewel case .
Either a long box or and 8x8 media sleeve so the artwork isn't microscopic . Wouldn't cost much and you'd see a surge in sales .
Disney already did something like this for their movies, they brought back the Laserdisc sleeves for some selected titles: th-cam.com/video/e4pCno1wRI4/w-d-xo.html The same could be done for audio albums.
I used to be real big on listening on streaming services but my tastes are a little niche and it seemed too often that either a service wouldn't have what I was looking for or else let the rights drop after a while and I'd have to go to another service to listen there. I've since been just buying CDs and getting digital albums straight from artists on Bandcamp

Great video! I still buy CDs to this day, and will continue. They're cheaper than LPs now, and do sound great on the right player/transport. I have bought many LPs since 1972, but started buying CDs since 1983, and still have them all. Owning the music is great!

I couldn’t agree more. I have a theory that in the not too distant future all the youngsters currently buying vinyl will get fed up with the cleaning, maintenance and storage problems and switch over to CDs just like we did, lol. So hang onto your CDs, they could be rising in value soon.
I'm not so sure about that. The vinyl resurgence started nearly 20 years ago, and has not declined. Of course there will be some who get fed up with vinyl maintenance and abandon it, but there's always a new generation to discover the attraction of vinyl.

@@jimalbruzzess2445 I used to truck up to Calgary in the 90's. There was 1 truck stop back then The Road King aka The Road Kill. Stopped going in 1997. Too much of a hassle to me to cross back and forth. Coming back to the US really sucked. The Canadian customs treated us better but there was always the possibility they could pull you in on the Canada 🇨🇦 side and tear apart the inside of your truck for inspection. Never happened to me but. My favorite band is my first band I heard as a kid The Guess Who!! Never forget hearing American Woman all over the radio as a kid! Then BTO!! 🎸🎸🎸

I enjoy CDs as much as Vinyl; you get a very different listening experience from each format. When i got my Professional CD turntable i remembered why i loved them so much back in the 90’s, i’ve been using mediocre CD players since the early 2000’s and just forgot how powerful they could sound, always been a fan of digipacks, longboxes, boxed sets and rarities but i just can’t stand newer editions of old albums being ultra expensive but not even replicating original art, lyrics or overall quality of their original pressings, i just ordered No Code by PJ and surprise! No polaroids, no digipack, no full artwork, just a booklet that i could have done a thousand times better at home, in a cheap jewel case, for $25 bucks… same price as the new edition vinyl that includes everything BIG… And also got the japanese SHM Mechanical Animals by MM which sounds like heaven, pure bliss! Plus the original booklet, all the lyrics and a solid jewel case, i just got to be more aware of what i’m buying than before. Vinyl sometimes can be disappointing too: Melvins’ Hold It In sounds like garbage being burnt, and lacks the awesome track House Of Gasoline, it didn’t fit! Be careful of what you buy and where you play it, that lesson i learned!
I've been collecting CDs off & on since they first came out. Over the years I had a fantastic collection, but stuff happened and ended up selling them more than I care to remember.
Right now I've been collecting CD's again since 2016. I have about 2000 now. My collection all have the Japanese Resealable CD covers on them, and I replace jewel cases if they
become scratched or broken. Out of my collection maybe 2% are a little bit scratched, but the 98% of the rest are NM-M. I take care of my CD's. My collection is awesome.
I have imports & remasters mostly. A lot of different genres, but the majority of my collection is Rock & Old School Funk/R&B/Soul

Yeah youngsters only go with was popular which is streaming their cheap ass music on their cell phones but if they give CDs 💿 a try they’ll see huge difference on owning the album than renting 😮

I started buying cds 22 years ago and don't plan on stopping. CDs are inexpensive now and plentiful in supply. I also buy vinyl records but been buying less since prices are soaring.
CD's are in an odd state right now...all of the older huge discs can be found for fairly cheap (and used can be found in the dollar bins) but some of the more underground, harder to find CD's are going for a pricey premium. Brand new CD's can range anywhere between $10-$17 which is a huge gap.
I go back and forth between CD and Vinyl, I love the vinyl format but in many cases CD's sound just as good or in some cases, even better. It all comes down to mixing, mastering, and general studio production. The 90's CD's sound great but in the mid 2000's loudness war, mostly everything on CD suffered.
Agree about the price of harder to find CDs. It seems like everything unusual that catches my eye in the Half-Price Books CD bins is marked at $20-25. I've broken down a number of times and paid over $35 for a used CD I just had to have. Some of those are selling for $60 and way over now.

Alot of the prices have gone sky high if the cd is out of print. These resale 🦈 sharks are everywhere!! 😳😳😳
From 2015 to 2021, I've collected only vinyl records, but in the last week of last year I decided to buy a cd, and have bought a dozen since. You know what? It felt great: cheap, great sound (not as great as vinyl, but close), easy to store, cute to look at... With vinyl prices going through the roof, and the amount of quality control issues that are plaguing vinyl records these days, I think cds are a very good alternative for those, like me, that insist on having physical copies of the music they love. 2022 will be a cd year for me.
Couldn’t agree more. I’m a vinyl guy at heart, but during lockdown I got all of my CDs out of the loft and have been going through them box by box and have really enjoyed listening to some real gems. Great Burial LP btw love that one 👌

Really enjoyed that. I've always been a big 'CD guy' and don't see that changing anytime soon. Also worth pointing out that you can get a lot on CD via places likes Amazon, where the music might be a bit more obscure, out of print or quite expensive in your home country. I get a lot of stuff from the States that I'd never find in the UK, for a reasonable price.
I have bought records and cd's since the 80's. Mainly records because they were cheaper over the years. With records becoming so ridiculously expensive lately, and with so many poorly pressed, I have pretty much switched back to cd's as my main target.
I'm all for buying physical versions of albums, no matter what format they are. I've always felt that that's the best way to support an artist. Plus, I love the collecting aspect of it, as well as having a collection to show people when they come over. Personally, I prefer vinyl records, as I have thousands from since I was a kid. But I still have at least a thousand CD's and they still get used. I think the best part of the CD vs streaming is that I always have a master to rip a digital file from, and it will always be there to listen to.
My family sold off their CD collection years ago and moved on to streaming services, but I still believe in CDs for the points you mentioned and for some additional reasons:
1. Some CDs have fantastic artwork that has only been distributed if you buy their CDs, plus you can scan them to digital files like how you can rip CDs
2. Most of the artists that I listen too are far too niche to be in streaming services and so they only release on CDs
3. Backups if the storage that my media files are in dies
4. You can buy a ton of assorted CDs in lots for the price of a few albums and see what you get
5. Most streaming services limit you to their player, with local files you can use any media player application like Roon or JRiver
6. Having an actual medium to interact with the music is always fascinating
7. It's just fun buying, ripping, scanning, tagging, and displaying CDs that you bought

Great video. I've recently got back into buying cds, mostly replacing albums I've bought digitally.
My sony hifi had an 80gb hard drive but rarely I felt drawn to scrolling through hundreds of ripped albums on it's little screen. I've now given that away and got my 1998 Technics separates back out of storage and I'm listening to albums again everyday
In time, when all last models of cars come out without a radio with a CD player, it is hard to see a bright future. In the last years a lot of people were buying CD`s especially for a car. At home you are listening vinyl and with turntables like new Denon DP 450, you can record your music from vinyl directly onto the USB stick, which you listen in a car. Or you get a digital download inside new records.
talking about ownership, thats why i love the Jethro Tull CD deluxe format, got the amazing remaster done by steven wilson and then thrown in a live concert for a bonus and even throwing in some cool stuff on DVDs in the deluxe boxsets. Burning Shed is a great indie online shop that supports the big acts of the heyday of music

Couldn't agree more about the enjoyable Saturday afternoon scouring for cds in charity shops. Some fantastic finds at knock down prices and excellent quality too. I have an old fashioned click wheel ipod with thousands of tracks ripped as 320kbs mp3. Sounds great on a good pair of headphones.

I've never stopped buying music on CD. I don't like the (necessary) compression, and lack of detail that comes with it, that you get from mp3 files. I also like owning a physical object - I feel somewhat cheated, just paying for streams of data.

I'm an ol audiophile guy from way back. Love to buy all the MFSL LPs and other 1/2 speed mastered LP. Love the sound and the physical medium. Then the CDs came out. Love them too although when they first came out the mastering needed some improvement. Then MFSL made the Direct Mastered Gold CDs and the sound was awesome. I also have the Audio DVD player but not many titles are available. I was actually thrilled at the prospect of having my music not wearing out and no more clicks and pops. I actually set up my old turntable again last month and it's been literally a few decades since I set it up! Still works and I got a really great setup, just my stylus from 30 years ago sold for over 350.00 back then! Been playing both mediums a lot lately but in reality the Original MFSL CDs sound the best, it's called dynamic range and these gold disc were mastered from the original sources. Anyways, like both mediums and use them both a lot. I won't even go into my cassette set up! I own a Nakamichi 682-ZX tape deck. It cost around $1800.00 bucks back in 1982 and it was state of the art, studio quality cassette player. Need to get it running again, been sitting too long, needs a good cleaning and maybe a belt replacement, it just got old not using it. What I did before was record an album in Dolby C or DBX on metal tape and then put the album away, no wear and tear on the LP and you could not tell the difference in the sound quality! I did the same thing in the 80's. Brand new record first play would be recorded onto a cassette. Most of my 80's lp's are pretty much mint. I'm worried about my Onkyo cassette player I bought in 2005. The belt might need replacing. Hard if not impossible to find anywhere to get stuff serviced. I replaced my 1983 technics turntable with a brand new technics 1200GR. I have about 60 brand new sealed blank cassettes. I plan on buying about 40 more off ebay and I think I'll be good!! 🎸🎸🎸

Love my CDs. So glad I kept them all. They sound great and you own them. Don't just buy from charity shops. Think about the artists and get new ones as well. Also, there are also so many great box set comps out there featuring obscure blues, country and jazz tracks you can't find anywhere else. HMV has a lot to choose from.

I really do like collecting for an affordable price (not cheap: it's really to describe build quality rather than price) and CDs are pretty good. And of course I love supporting my favorite artists including some really underrated ones like Incredible Polo, Lena Raine, Dankmus (the same guy behind DankPods), Gorillaz, Pink Floyd, Alicia Keys, etc and also, as long as I take care of CDs, they can last decades, and it works with computers so you can make a digital version using programs like iTunes, and it overall sounds way better than MP3s that everyone raves about.

Me too. Doesn't sound nuts at all. I remember cassettes and vinyl also each had their own smell. For the cassettes, I would describe it as a more chemically smell but not necessarily terrible smelling. The vinyl smell is more difficult for me to describe wasn't unpleasant at all. Whenever someone mentions the smell of those 2, it's just like as if I had them in my hands at that moment. The scent is instantly recalled.

these masters are really loud too so the grooves are wide
if they mastered differently for vinyl they'd have fit it on 1 disc and people would have to use bass and treble knobs to set the bass and treble levels to make it sound good but they don't care
fast mass production without quality control is 'the new black' and we're treated like foolish kids that don't know a think about how to listen to music or use the equipment we have in our possession
CD is the best sound quality hands down. Streaming is nice. Buts its compressed. CD and LP are they way to go if you are an audiophile.

When I was playing the Clubs (Been a DJ since I was 13) I stared to get these strange 3" silver disc's from Japan, They were the CD Equivalent to the Vinyl Singles I was still playing at that time. There was no Machine to play them on, and they came with this Oversized Plastic Ring. It would be about another year and a half, when we got hold of players, and started to receive the 5" discs from Germany. By the time they put the 3" Dink Into the CD players Tray, they were pretty well swamped by the 5" disc's and were soon Discontinued. I kept them all, and still play them today 2021. I also have thousands of the 5" CD singles as I was getting hundreds a week through the door. Many of them are still UN-played.
I do by CDs whenever I can as they are a great format for the price. Some things are a little harder to buy where I live, like recently I wanted an album by Jim's Big Ego and couldn't get hold of it in physical without paying a stupid amount of money for shipping and import duties, so I bought the FLAC lossless files from the artist (important to support the artists above all) and recorded that to a Minidisc to use as physical, making a nice label for it and everything. If I could get the original CD without breaking the bank I would, which I make Minidisc copies of anyway for the car and on the go because it's a great sounding format for those situations whilst being very compact and durable. But digital only, yeah, I'm not a fan... I'm not good with endless lists, it just blanks me out, and streaming just really isn't my thing either. Give me something tangible and I'm as happy as a pig in mud!! If I can't get it tangible, I'll make it tangible somehow.

I feel the same. I spent my life in the Hi Fi Trade and when CDs came out I was in the majority who loved them.
I still have a lot of Vinyl but I don't play them now.
When I could go out I occasionally picked up some bargains in charity shops. Even the occasional SACD.
A good bit of advice.
CDs will always offer the cleanest sound but its all how they master them. The loudness wars were so detrimental to good sounding CDs.

I own thousands of CDs and will continue to collect them for as long as I can. I do think that a CD sounds better than an MP3 file however!

I aggressively downsized my CD collection a decade ago and have regretted it ever since. In the past couple years, I've been on a singular mission to rebuild the old collection and then some. Thrift stores have been an invaluable source of cheap CDs in excellent condition to help that mission. You need to be consistent, and patient, as a lot of second hand CDs are pretty trashed.
I’ve bought hundreds from charity shops. Most common are the CDs females listen to more, like boy bands, girl singers etc, but occasionally you get other stuff. To me that fits in with the fact women on average care less about music and collecting stuff.

CD's rule..The perfect balance of sound, portability, flexibility and durability. I have owned cds since 1985, handle them with care, keep them out of extreme heat and store in their cases. No snap crackle or pop and minimum cleaning ...they will last a lifetime. I have 3000 of them!

Queuing up and waiting for HMV to open was part of the ritual, as is taking it out the case and putting it in the machine. Owning a CD is more than practical considerations - it represents something. Authenticity. Downloading/streaming is cheap, and if you think I mean that just in terms of money, your soul is already lost.

I loved my Walkman. I preferred the cassette as it didn't skip. I hated skipping! I went straight from cassettes to an ipod. I'll have to check out some old CDs again. I'm sure they're much better sitting at home
Love vinyl but I’m a value buyer. Case in point. I bought Dylan’s bootleg New York cd with 45 songs vs 23 offered on vinyl. Prince’s Sign O the Times cd has 29 songs vs 16 on vinyl. And the vinyl price was about twice the cd price at the time. No brained decision. Also there are just tremendous compilation box sets on cd such as James Brown’s Star Time and Rhino’s Soul, Funk, and Disco comps that have not been pressed to vinyl. And I still own a car that I’m reluctant to part with as it has a CD player. Good vid, thanks!
It's nice to be reminded that there are other people who value CDs like I do. I've no intention of getting rid of my collection and I still buy CDs. I still have a modest vinyl record collection too and will occasionally purchase a vinyl record- usually these are nostalgia buys of records I used to own when I was younger, but the CD is my go to format. Streaming has its place but I'm too old now to be able to make that break with owning a physical format of the music I care about.

With the alteration (more of degradation) of lossless masters by streaming companies such as MQA and the likes the only way of getting the original master quality even in 16 bit is getting the physical CD, So yes CD will most likely have a resurgance within the HiFi enthausiasts.
Streaming is nice, but the fact a favorite album could suddenly disappear because of some licensing change is why I still want a physical copy, be it vinyl or CD.
And there’s times when my streaming sounds like a AM radio station with a lot of static and distortion. Ugh.
Last 5 times I went to buy vinyl, I walked away with the CD. Between dropping 30 bucks for the vinyl and 8.99 for the CD, forget about it.

The first CD I bought in, 1983, cost $33 because, in the first 2 years, CDs were only made in Japan or Germany. Their price didn't get reduced until they started making them in the United States.

When CDs first came out, you couldn't copy the CD that you just bought on a blank CD. You had to pay an extra $1 per blank CD to get one that would allow copying. It took a special CD player/recorder to achieve a direct copy.
I remember I copied alot of 💿 cd's onto cassettes!! Later the cd recorder. They are pretty much gone now.
I never will count on streaming services for my favorite music. Too many times, an artists whole discography just disappeared from them all and the solution was then to buy the CD.

Nail on the head there, including supporting artists, which many similar vids miss! Most of my new music these days tends to be local, relatively unknown artists, so important for me to help keep them going. I ripped my CD collection back when the first iPod appeared, and yes, they did end up in the attic, but a recent hi-Fi upgrade has seen them come back down again, and I’m rediscovering the quality of my older albums. So glad I didn’t sell my collection as some friends have, only to lose their music due to computer fail or theft. As an IT nerd that’s another more mundane reason to keep CDs…BACKUP!!

I collect records. But I also collect CDs. Anytime I go to a thrift store I load up. At 50 cents to $1 each you can afford to grab 20 or more at a time.
Where I live the average price for a record is $35 so I think I'm going to start supplementing my collection with CD's. Spending hundreds a month on music is getting kinda ridiculous
