  • Ever heard of Ernst Chladni?
No? But maybe you've seen the forms named after him. You can definitely call his research fundamental to the #NVH field.
Even Napoleon said about him, "This man makes you see the sounds."
We have slightly modified his experiments. In ours, an electromagnetic shaker excites a steel plate on which we have spread colored sand. When we set the shaker to exactly a natural frequency of the plate, it vibrates in the corresponding natural mode. The sand follows this vibration and the so-called mode shape becomes visible to our human eye. All without any software. If you want to measure this mode shapes we would recommend the unique software #wavecam.
Our vibration analysis solution WaveCam is the perfect tool for non-contact and high-resolution vibration measurement for experts and beginners in the time and frequency domain. To get started, all you need is a camera and our software to process the data. Save the time handling lots of cables and sensors, or setting and measuring single measurement locations consecutively. Every single pixel will serve as an individual sensor allowing you to measure hundreds of thousands of positions simultaneously.
And sorry for the somehow exhausting sound in the video. But that's just the natural frequencies of our plate.
