In this movie paro suffered.she led her life with an old man,was in a loveless marriage,a marriage which was forced on her.devdas found Chandramukhi,loved her and if he had given up drinking,he would have been happy with her.but paro suffered.

If that's what you think then you didn't understand Devdas at all. Devdas is what we would call the embodiment of Toxic Masculinity today. He was always in love with Paro but never gave her the acceptance that she deserved. He just always assumed that Paro would always wait for him and his approval. After Devdas rejects her when she asks him to marry her, Paro picks up whatever is left of her wounded pride and says yes to the marriage proposal that is brought for her from a respectable family, even though the groom himself is quite senior to her, because the main reason she didn't get any respect from Dev and his family was because her family was of lower status than his. It's only after Paro is out of reach that Dev starts to regret his treatment of her and the guilt of not treating Paro right starts to consume him till the point that he destroys his relationship with his family, his health, his chance at redemption with Chandramukhi's love and eventually dies at Paro's door. Paro only had to endure a loveless marriage but by all means she lived a comfortable life. Devdas on the other hand paid for his mistakes with his life.
