Oakwood Theme Park | Full Tour & Review | Things To Do in Wales

Join us on our tour of Oakwood Theme Park in South Wales. The biggest theme park in Wales.
We tell you whether it is worth going to visit. Boasting an impressive 33 rides for all ages and costing in the region of £130 for a family of 4 for a day visit, we were hoping it was. Here is our review.
We can tell you that we did spend a full day there and we were occupied, but be conscious we did spend a lot of time queuing.
Oakwood is known for some spectacular rides such as Speed, Drenched and Vertigo. It also has a great section called Neverland that does have multiple rides all aimed at a younger audience.
In our tour we tell you what you can actually do though pending how old and how tall your family members are. So here are the main rides...
BOBSLEIGH - A great ride that resembles a toboggan, and it does allow you to control the speed at which you progress with a push pull brake stick. Suitable for people 1m and above if accompanied by an adult.
DIZZY DISK - if you like Waltzers at a normal fair (and getting dizzy) then this is the next level. With a minimum height restriction of 1.2 metres, it is not the type of ride you want to go after eating your lunch as you are spun around and around at a horrific speed.
MEGAFOBIA - Minimum height restriction = 1.2 metres. A roller coaster ride that is actually quite scary. One of the most popular wooden roller-coasters in the UK. It gives you that extra unsettled feeling as even when we were queuing we could see the wooden supporting struts shake and rumble when the cars were shooting by. Actually made us apprehensive even before we got onto it! Was it worth the queue? Yes it is, this really does take you around some sharp bends and down drops at an amazing pace - but not as fast as...
SPEED - Minimum height restriction 1.25 metres. This is not a rode for the feint hearted. This is the Theme park ride in Wales! Taking you around corners and twists at speeds of up to 59mph. May not sound like a lot but when you are sat in a small cart clinging for your dear life, it certainly feels faster. You have been warned, this is not another ride to do just after your lunch.
BOUNCE - Minimum height restriction 1.4 metres. If you want to take in some great views as well as feel your stomach drop to your feet, then this is the ride for you. Taking up you right up in the air and then threatening to drop and then not and then raising you and then bouncing. You actually never know when you are going up and down. Be prepared for some serious jolting.
TREETOPS - Height restriction to ride alone = 1 metre. Do not be fooled by the small height restriction. This great rollercoaster certainly entertained our little daughter. It whips around bends and is not to be mistaken for the roller coasters that you find in standard fairgrounds. This is actually one of the oldest rides at the park and is nearly 30 years old!
DRENCHED - Minimum height restriction 1.2 metres. As Scott called this, Wet pants. Yes, be prepared to get wet. This ride is very deceiving, with the slow slow crawl to the top, and the then slow crawl to the drop, it allows the anticipation to go into overdrive. Plunging into the water at a speed that ensures, you will not escape the water and mini tsunami that is caused by the force of the car when it does hit the water. And it is not just the riders that will get wet, bystanders who are daft enough to stand at the bottom also get drenched - hence the name...
VERTIGO - Minimum height restriction 1.1 metres. If you ever wanted to fly, then this is the ride that will take you to that experience without a plane. It does cost an additional fee, but the sheer fright factor that this gives is worth it. Fly through the air at what feels like light speed with a simple (but very secure) harness. If you do not fancy it, you can always enjoy watching the ones that do, scream as they get catapulted into oblivion.
There are various other rides such as the Pirate Ship, Waterfall, Witches Brew, Creepy Crawler, Snake River Falls and Spooky 3D and there is Neverland. An area of the park that caters for youngsters with plenty of rides both water and Fairground style rides.
So did we find Oakwood theme Park to live up to it's reputation as the best theme park in Wales?
If you want rides and thrills, and you are over 1.2 metres, then yes. If you are going with children that are shorter than this, then you may disappointed.
A great family day out though and at the end of the day, both our two kids still enjoyed themselves.
