Great video ranking Joe! My favorite is also Beneath the Planet of the Apes, for exact reasons you mentioned. Can’t wait to see your next apes rankings video. My guess is that you will rank the original Planet of the Apes as the best movie.
This was sort of a rant video . . . what fun! But if they ever do a remake of Citizen Kane, they aren't going to change the character names. Caesar, Nova and other familiar names will pop up because it's the same (sorta) story.
Hello Joe, Great ranking!! I am watching the new planet of the apes movies now and still have to see the new one in the theater. I Love the original movies also and remember watching the tv show. Fond memories!!! Take care enjoy the movies!!!!
I completely understand your frustration with all these ranking lists that repeatedly delegate the original series to the bottom of their lists. I grew up with the originals and love them as well and I have NO problem with Beneath being someone’s favorite. I love that movie. So fun, weird, crazy and ballsy. 👍
Good ranking video, I enjoyed hearing your perspective. I wish you hadn't felt the need to put in so many disclaimers about the list, your favorites are yours and shouldn't require justification!
The problem to me with Burton's film is that he tried to re-make the original. I'm not really into re-makes. I don't think it's that bad of a film if the original series had never existed. But alas, it does so....Really hard to remake Heston. What I like about the most recent series (haven't seen the new one yet) is that they're not essentially re-making the original. Nor is it exactly a prequel series. To me it fits in with the same story, perhaps on a different or parallel timeline. The original series showed us nothing was going to stop the apes from taking over. If they could be stopped, Zira and Cornelius would never had made it back in time and Caesar would never had been born to a "modern" day society, etc. etc. etc. That being said, the new series IMO fits perfectly well with the original. Now if they bring the Icarus back into it, we'll just have to see if Taylor is piloting it. Anyway - I have enjoyed the Apes Universe all my life and I can accept the new series right along with the original. To me it's all part of the same story. And the motion capture just seems to be getting that much better so that once you get caught into the story, it doesn't seem "animated" at all. At least it didn't with the Andy Serkis films. I am looking forward to seeing the new one. Thanx Joe for the ranking. Always enjoy your posts. Until the next one, take care my friend.
Thanks for your interesting comment. I disagree though that the new series can lead right up to the first 1968 film. For one thing, in the original Taylor reveals that they left Earth in 1972 (not in the 21st Century). Also, as much as I loathe Burton's reboot, I find it significantly different from the 1968 film. For example, they're actually on a different planet.
@@MrCineMayo The comment about Burton's film was just to say that it might have been an "ok" movie if the original series never existed. But since it does - Burton's film is - as you have said - a stinker. I don't think the new series can lead into the 68 original either. I just have to kinda look at it from Doc Brown's space time continuim (or whatever) and perhaps see the Apes Universe as such that no matter how the humans or the apes try to change anything - the results will still be the same. Just as Zira and Cornelius traveling back to "modern day" initially changed how the Apes began to rise up. Ol'boy tried to kill them on the docks but Montalban had already switched the ape babies - so Caesar lived to start the rebellion - a change in how the apes rose-up, but they rose up over humans anyway. So like I said, I just have to look at this as one big (same, but different) story. Parallel universes...Whatever. Same but different. The story of the Apes told from someone other than John Huston. LOL. But it's essentially the same story. And if it is the same story told from a different perspective, does the world still get blown up in the end?
Now see if the follow-up ranking (whenever I get to it) is exactly what you think it would be. But did you REALLY predict my list here to be "exactly" this way? Did you expect the first 1968 classic to be ranked so low among the original series? Did you know precisely in which order the first 5 movies would be preferred?
Beneath is my 2nd favourite Apes movie after the original. I like it for all the same reasons you said and it has my favourite ending in the series. I like Conquest more than Escape, otherwise I like the originals in order of release. I was hugely disappointed in the Tim Burton film but I did like the Make up effects. I gave up on the new movies after Rise, I don't like the CGI, it doesn't look as "real" as the practical make up does. I feel like I'm watching an animated movie at times.
I didn't realize Tim Burton had done a comedy take on Planet Of The Apes. He pulled the same unforgivable stunt with his Dark Shadows film. I never even saw the movie, just seeing the trailer was bad enough.
For some of this younger generation, the originals might not be available to them, I'm almost 50 and dont think the Tim Burton movie is as bad as you say, We all have base our likes and dislikes on different aspects. No one is wrong
I started to watch Dawn of the Planet of the Apes on streaming the other night, but had to turn it off.The CGI looked so bad.Strangely i never felt that when watching it in the cinema,On a decent quality tv it was unwatchable.

These movies are amazing i love them nice video my friend take care man.

Not really. There's no need to name characters Caesar and Nova in the new series, it's just name-checking.
I appreciate the reboots but nothing compares to the original films magic and creativity..
Agreed

Enjoyed the video but the the favourite verses best point was hammered to death.

My list would also have the originals in the top 5 (though I haven’t seen this latest yet). Escape is my favorite sequel, though.
Kingdom of the planet of the Apes is my new 2nd favorite after the original movie. I really enjoyed it
Beneath the Planet of the Apes was my favorite too. It also didn’t hurt seeing Nova walking around in her bikini
Amen
