Took this train back in 2017 Yerevan and Tbilisi. Back then it was quipped with standard ex-Soviet Railway Ammendorf type cars. They were solid and very clean. A week or so latter I took the night train from Tbilisi to Zugdidi where we crossed the line of contact with Abkhazia.
I believe the only other overnight train in the South Caucasus it the service between Tbilisi and Baku.

Congratulations on your video, I really enjoyed it! I am Brazilian and the grandson of Armenians who arrived in the city of São Paulo (Brazil) in 1926 and 1932; my grandmothers and grandfathers were survivors of the Armenian Genocide of 1915, perpetrated by the government of the extinct Ottoman Empire during First World War.
All Armenian surnames end with the suffix "ian" (or the anglicised "yan", which means something like that "son of family Santur", as in my case), and Armenians were the first nation to adopt Christianity as their official religion, in 301 AD, nine years before the Roman Empire did so.
Armenia may not be a rich country, but it has a very rich culture and around 3000 years of continuous history. I hope you saw something interesting in Armenia and have enjoyed the food, which I love so much.
As for Brazil, unfortunately we do not have long-distance passenger trains, except for two daily trains from the private mining company Vale. The others were wiped off the map by the federal government and the São Paulo government between 1996-2001. Here we only have suburban (commuter) trains in a very few Brazilian state capitals, and insufficient subway systems in a very few cities as well. Elsewhere, Brazil uses highways to transport 65-67% of domestic cargo. And buses and planes to transport passengers. You can imagine the high cost of all this.
All the best and let's wait your next weekly reports! I like your work so much!

I saw the railway beside the road when I was travelling with minibus (scary experience, they drive like crazy) and I was amazed of how the railway could be there, almost on the highest point of the way. Incredible piece of engineering!

These were East-German built soviet-style coaches and there were 4 classes, with the 2nd (kupe) split into AC and non-AC options, from which I chose the first. Is summer they extend this service to Batumi, a Georgian coastal city, quite popular summer travel destination for Armenians.

@@NonstopEurotrip My parents lived in Georgia during Soviet times. And as they say, it was definitely better in the USSR than it is now. Georgians lived richer, better, everything was available and often free (medicine, education, etc.). Tbilisi was not such a dirty city as it is now, and the railways lived a full life, trains went to almost all regions of the USSR, the suburbs connected the whole country, and small aircraft carried passengers and goods to the most inaccessible regions of Georgia.
Now Georgia is a hospitable, but poor country with no special prospects, living with very dubious prospects for joining the European Union. All that is good here is the climate, Georgian cuisine / wine and the remnants of the legacy of the USSR.

Nice journey report ! Just watched our swiss club FC Basel playing in Jerewan a couple days ago. After I missed to reserve a seat on the charter train(Centralbahn-Sonderzug) to Bratislava in october - the austrian requierements were shortening the train capacity ... - I realised that this autumn won't offer another chance for such kind of sports trip from my place. Happy though - to still have travelled by train to Jerewan - at least virtually - thanks to you )
Something else : I like your additional presentations about the travelled places. Maybe you could also add some info about luggage storage options in the stations - respectivly nearby. I remember travelling with Interrail/EuroDomino - this was always a key knowlegde.
It's sad, that these centrally located countries aren't connected any better by rail thanks to geopolitical gambits. Our only left train manufacturer in Switzerland - Stadler - was able to deliver some sleeper carriages for the Baku-Tiflis train. Pitty, they aren't in use there. Beside the omnipresent multiple units and the massive spain built(ex-Vossloh plant) EuroDual engine this is their only tradional loco hauled train product. However, I really admire the russian philosophy of investing into traditional flexible overnight stock. Siemens is building new NightJets - but rather in fixed-formation design.
