I got Shingles for the first time when I was 26. I've had it every year since, sometimes twice a yr. It got to the point of barely being a problem and I'd carry on as normal. This time, not so much! I felt fine when I first noticed the rash, but by the second evening I felt like crap! The lymph nodes on my neck and under one armpit are all swollen and tender so moving my neck around hurts.. The rash looks worse than normal, it had gotten to be just bumps, now this is an angry looking thing, red spots, filled with yuck, and all red around it.. I don't know what's happened this time but it's worse than its been in years. I don't take medicine as it usually upsets my stomach and flares my IBS.. So I just wait it out. I ended up going to the doctor on campus and they subscribed medication. It was this huge pill I had to take for about two weeks. I also used some type of ointment to help with the itchiness.

Wow, I have shingles and it is on my left side, and let me tell you it feels like someone is stabbing you 24/7 even my clothing touching it hurt, when I got home I took off all my clothing that might touch it. Now I say that to say, thank you because although I went to the immediate care in my town the when I told the doctor that though I do not have anything on the left front side of my stomach, it feels the same as my left side of my back, as if something is stabbing me. An ice pack works really well for the pain. Stock up on tons of ice. Tylenol works good too. I've had chicken pox when I was around 7, and shingles twice now... once in my teens and now at 53. What a pain in the ahole. I went to the doctor and they thought it was a kidney stone or diverticulitis; then two days later I noticed the two streaks of rashes on my side. the pain moves around from the front and back on my left side. I have been eating a lot of junk food with the onset of winter... I think that was the culprit, along with getting older. Also, I took a long ride on a public bus and a lot of scabby people ride in there, so that could be a factor as well. Such is life.

My son was just diagnosed with shingles today and he is 45. What's weird is he has been having severe shock like pain from his lower back in the last 3 weeks and we think it's Arachnoiditis which involves the nerves around the spinal cord or something like that. I wonder if it's related. His shingles started on his neck and spread. He also has cellulitis inside the back of the neck also. This is the third time he has had cellulitis in that area. I’m 53 and got it in my trigeminal nerve affecting my scalp, face and eye. My rash and eye looked exactly like that gentleman. Have it now at 38...from stress & low immune system. Horrible pain on the left side of my body, torso. Now on antiviral, plus lidocaine patches.

Had shingles in my 30s. I, along with my parents and 4 siblings, had never been treated for chicken pox, so assumed I never had chicken pox. Weird.

I got Shingles for the first time when I was 26. I've had it every year since, sometimes twice a yr.
It got to the point of barely being a problem and I'd carry on as normal. This time, not so much! I felt fine when I first noticed the rash, but by the second evening I felt like crap! The lymph nodes on my neck and under one armpit are all swollen and tender so moving my neck around hurts.. The rash looks worse than normal, it had gotten to be just bumps, now this is an angry looking thing, red spots, filled with yuck, and all red around it.. I don't know what's happened this time but it's worse than its been in years.
I don't take medicine as it usually upsets my stomach and flares my IBS.. So I just wait it out.
Wondering what this is going to be like going forward, I expect it to go away because it was seemingly less fierce with each time.. but that's clearly not the case after this round. I can't imagine having this in my 60s or 70s.
Maybe I'm just getting older and less able to cope with it.. But I'm not that old. Maybe I have a weak immune system.. Whatever the reason it can't be good.

Wow, I have shingles and it is on my left side, and let me tell you it feels like someone is stabbing you 24/7 even my clothing touching it hurt, when I got home I took off all my clothing that might touch it. An ice pack works really well for the pain. Stock up on tons of ice. Tylenol works good too. I've had chicken pox when I was around 7, and shingles twice now... once in my teens and now at 53. I went to the doctor and they thought it was a kidney stone or diverticulitis; then two days later I noticed the two streaks of rashes on my side. the pain moves around from the front and back on my left side. My son was just diagnosed with shingles today and he is 45. What's weird is he has been having severe shock like pain from his lower back in the last 3 weeks and we think it's Arachnoiditis which involves the nerves around the spinal cord or something like that.
