- I'll have to admit that I had never heard of Lani Hall before I heard her sing another song, "I Don't Want You To Go" on the radio back in 1980. I immediately went out and bought a copy of the 45rpm record. The following year, this song, "Come What May," was released, and I liked it enough to buy the album "Blush," which featured both songs.
Lani Hall was a member of Sérgio Mendes' group Brasil '66 who recorded such songs as "Fool On The Hill" and "The Look of Love." The band toured alongside A&M labelmates (and label founder) Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass in 1966. Lani Hall eventually left Brasil '66 in 1971 and married Alpert in 1974.
With her husband assuming production and arranging duties, Hall embarked on a solo career releasing an album nearly every other year from 1972 until 1987. In 1980, she released her fifth solo album "Blush" which included "Come What May, " a song she recorded with Herb Alpert. The song was released as a single the following year. In 1983, she performed the title song to the James Bond film "Never Say Never Again."
Lani Hall continues to record and in 2008, she reunited with Mendes again, performing vocals on the song "Dreamer" on his album "Encanto."

What I would not give to have a woman like Lani Hall look at me the way she looks at Herb Alpert just once in my life. That is pure, unadulterated love. He is a lucky man.
I saw them in concert last year. She still looks at him the same way. I came away not only appreciating the great talent the two of them are blessed with, but the love they share. Very evident.

I have been listening to Herb Alpert since 1962, when my father brought home his first album. Never in all that time have I read or heard a single thing derogatory about him, about the way he's lived his life. He's not only an amazing artist, but an incredible person. And getting with Lani Hall for the rest of his life proves it even further!

She was the magical ingredient that made them so successful. Lani is American, doesn't speak Portuguese, but can do it phonetically well enough. Married Herb Alpert in 72.

When I was young I remember my father would play this and the “I don’t want you to go” in the warmth of afternoon. He passed away for about 3 yrs now, life was good back then and simple. Lani Hall is one of those voices when I heard singing reminds me of my father and those afternoon we listened to her. Now those are precious memories. Thank you for uploading this I’m teary by listening to this. I didn’t know any info about Lani until I read it on the description box.

Lani Hall (originally of Sergio Mended and Brazil '66) is, to my great dismay, one of the great singers of my generation who never peaked. Her voice is incomparable.

It never will be . Herb bought all the rights to his records including all Lani Halls records when he sold A&M records. It’s a shame in a way there is some beautiful music there. I bought this on vinyl second hand . If you try his website there were some downloads there . This song I don’t think so . The only places I have heard it are on his record & this video. I tied to buy a new record or CD & had no luck. As I said a shame. Sun Down Lady is just equisite. I have a good quality copy of that too .

I am not able to put in relation why Herb buying all the rights to his records and the idea why is it not on spotify. I did try to research and read but still it is confusing. Correct me if Im wrong but from what I understood, the record company cannot use the songs or make profit from it from other means such us “Spotify” because they dont have the rights to do so? It is only gonna be possible if “Herb” himself upload it on spotify? I am so sorry, I am really bad at this. :)
@@imok07 My understanding is he owns the rights to the song. You often see something like publishing rights are owned by a film company on a film & “this film cannot be aired in public without permission of Herb Alpert” in this case. When he sold A&M records which he started he didn’t include his music & Lani Halls. I have tried to get “Sun Down Lady” on Vinyl & CD . I can’t find any new copies. You are right it is a masterpiece.

I've loved Herb Alpert since first hearing him back in the mid sixties.Lani came to my attention a lot later.
I was newly married,and had a lot of decorating to do. Herb's music accompanied my every brush stroke,the L.P.'s playing on my newly purchased Dansette Record Player.
He has brought much joy into my life,and I thank him for that.

Herb was, let's face it, a horrible singer (so was Burt Bacharach!) but a lot more handsome than Lani Hall's former boss, Sergio Mendez. Yet I was quite furious when Lani left the fabulous Mendez band and broke Sergio's heart, lol, HE wanted to marry her!
Of course Herb and Lani were made for each other, period.
A beautiful couple and not only that - two very NICE people too. Filthy stinking rich! and yet no star allures, no prima donnas. I'm their forever fan. And Sergio became a legend in his own right.
Subtle ,real, elegant, just two people in love singing. This seems to have been replaced by a catastrophe of self conscious, over the top videos these days with no subtlety at all. I enjoy seeing Lani Hall and her man here.

I recently became aware of this and it is truly lovely. At age 61, I have forever been a fan of Herb Alpert. To see his lovely wife performing with him here is something very special. Both are extremely talented. This is the kind of woman every man seeks in his life at one time or another.
