me too Gayle lol - i was probably in junior high - my dad cut down a tree and cut me some thin slivers of wood from a smaller branch - stained the wood - torn the edges around some cards i had - yep burned them to give the aged look and varnished them onto the wood pieces - my parents (bless their hearts) proudly hung them in a beautiful arrangement on the den wall - i still have them - made my very first scrapbook in 5th grade to hold all of my elementary school graduation cards and letters - thanks for the fun memories 🤗🤗i love this grungy journal and i love what you did today - be well Gayle xx

I fairly routinely use Vintage Photo then use Ground Espresso on the edge and sometimes Brushed Corduroy over the entire thing if it needs a little aging because it's too white . I am a distress nut, I know. But I love creating a beautifully blended age to almost everything. Grunge is my go to!

Yes, back in the 70’s I was into quilling big time. I was quilling wedding invitations and I would coerce my husband into smoking a cigar so I could use it to burn the edges of the invitation. It worked beautifully (cough, cough! ) But inking is sooooo much better. Such a great memory resurrected! Thank you, Gayle!

Back in 1975, for a wedding gift, someone took out invitation, separated some of the elements, burned the edges and attached to a plank of stained wood! I’m very familiar with that era of crafting! Still have it! Thanks for all you do!

Today as you worked in your grungy journal and chatted with us you reminded me of a dear memory. My husband and I used to be Scout leaders and we designed a challenging and wonderful scavenger/ treasure hunt for the youth year end party. The maps we made were all distressed with mud and tea stained to make them look old. We also burnt the edges for extra effects. We did not have Tim's distress inks in those days. Gosh it was fun and the youth loved it.
As I watched you distress your journal these memories came back and made me so happy. Thanks Gayle for reminding me of joyful times. Too bad it isn't Spring as you could take your journal outside and rub some mud on the pages. Nothing says grunge like dried mud. Hugs. Cathy

    Gayle,
If your looking for tiny numbers remember you have the artiste kit from Shannon and in it, there were tiny number stamps for the kit.
I really like how the page edges make the grunge journal have a personality all it’s own. The mix of distress oxides or inks is really making the pages authentic.
With my cards and stationary I wanted to make look old and antique with burned edges I used a black soot stamp pad and took the pad itself around the edges or stained them with a chocolate brown alcohol ink, which works beautifully on any type of coffee dyed or tea stained paper, especially if the edges are torn.
I hope you guys are staying warm and tucked in. Our weather here is changing nasty quickly.
    Love ❤️ hugs 🤗 always.

Hello again, Gayle! I'm just loving all of the new mixed media stuff you are doing. I really enjoyed the work you did on the wallpaper sample to make the cover for some new journals. My husband had just purchased some mixed ephemera from an auction and in the goodies was a partial wallpaper sample book. I knew I could use them for covers but I never thought about covering them with mixed media first. Wow! That was a real game changer for me, and I loved how your wallpaper came out. The stenciling was just gorgeous! Thank you so much for sharing all the great inspiration!

She wants the 10 boxes full of quilts out of her closet. When we downsized and moved here 5 years ago, I carefully packed them with archival tissue paper in archival boxes I found on Amazon. I'm still sorting thru them and will be listing some on my Etsy shop. But it's hard because it took me years to build my collection and I love all of them!! 🤗 I really enjoy watching this journal come together. It's so fun to see everything you add!!
