    Fantastic video, thank you for helping me decide which mic I should take.

    Left and right ear comparisons are unacceptable for numerous technical and perceptual reasons, in both ears and headphones, such as stereo sound perception psychoacoustics, left/right ear differences, left/right speaker differences, left/right room reflection differences, stereo compression/encoding methods, and so on. They are downright useless and create false impressions.

    So help me out, which is better? Why would you get one over another? I run multiple ew-100 instruments as well as the G4 IEMs x 5. A singer has just shown me this and it looks ace and cheaper than the ew-100.. how come?!

      The EW-D will supersede the EW100 G4 system, and benefit from a digital over analogue transmission. Benefits include less intermodulation, more frequencies to choose from in challenging areas, and more soft benefits.

    2 questions please...
    Does the EW-D transmit power of 10mW Vs the G4 30mW mean that the EW-D will drop out sooner than the G4?
    How does running both in the same RF environment work? i.e. I'm running G4 IEMs on CH38 too, so does spacing the EW-D's 600kHz apart apart (obviously outside of the IEM frequencies) work OK with intermodulation on the G4's?

    • @axnjxn91
      @axnjxn91 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Late to the show, but still: the transmission power ratings are not directly comparable. EW-D has the tremendous advantage of looking ahead and doing effective error correction/concealment, as it's a digital signal. Bytes of audio data alternate with bytes of info about the signal (within microseconds), allowing the system to make corrections, switch to the "better" antenna and so on. Regarding the mixing of the systems: of course, the intermodulation products are still an issue and degrade the signal to noise ratio in those frequency spots, so the Auto Scan will not detect these spots as "free". EW-D and G4 use roughly 200 kHz of bandwith per active link, but the difference is, EW-D doesn't generate intermodulation products (as strong as G4) when you use two transmitters in close range to each other. They're still there, just with way less of an amplitude, so there's no need to use presets as thes spots have absolutely sufficient signal to noise ratio. Just look into the frequency list of your G4 and where the next free preset would be from the one you're using. That's where you can "start" using EW-D links. But Auto Scan is your friend.

    I don't like that they removed RJ45/Ethernet port and that it works over the bluetooth. It would be awesome to be able to manage receiver over the LAN network because I could manage it even 500m away from the receiver (over fiber network which we have because of DANTE (audio transmission) &.NDI (video transmission).

      @@kyledsullivan I hope so. :) We just don't trust to wireless technologies like WiFi or Bluetooth because.. it works flawlessly when there is a few people around.. But when an event starts and there is 400 people, it stops work becuase of people who have smartphones.. That's why I/we proritize wired connections if it's possible.

    • @kyledsullivan
      @kyledsullivan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BuriTechVids Totally with you on that. In practice, we've seen good results using the Bluetooth Low Energy to set up these systems. Usually this happens before the room is full which gives you plenty of reception for syncing, etc. If the receivers are at FOH you should be rather safe. However, if you're 100 feet away with a full house your mileage may vary. I got to tell you though that running the app on a tablet and monitoring all the channels is a nice confidence piece.

    You state that the EW-D transmitter is compatible with Neumann capsules (except the 3000/5000 series and Neumann
    100 series). I don't believe that's true. Neumann only offers two handheld capsules, the kk204 and kk205. Specs on their site state they only work with SKM 2000/6000 and 9000 transmitters.

    • @pjmuck
      @pjmuck 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LeisuretecDistribution Thank you for clearing that up. That is a relief. Not sure if it's a standard offer in your area, but Sennheiser offers a full EW500 system (transmitter and receiver) with the kk205 capsule already attached for $1600 US. But I'm most interested in the EW-D system and wish they offered a complete system package with the kk205 capsule too.

      @@LeisuretecDistribution Please tell me - Sennheiser EW 165-G3 would be better for a vocalist? I see that Sennheiser EW 165-G3 has a maximum sound pressure level of 152 dB. Also: Condenser transducer type
      - The directivity is supercardioid (which gives less unwanted sounds from the sides). The condenser head gives a wider / more transparent voice sound.
      If I can now buy a new Sennheiser EW 165-G3 system - will it be better for sound quality?

      @@LeisuretecDistribution What is the latency of digital systems? After all, no one talks about it. And G3 has no latency.
      And when applied in real-time work through DAW programs/plug-ins, it will affect processing and personal monitoring.

    Wow, I've never seen dynamic range expressed as a graph with frequency on the left... Nor such a flawed explanation of what companding is.
    And listening to the two devices simultaneously in the left and right channels is similarly "creative".
