You have obviously never watched him in anything then Stiras. He has been in plenty of things over the years from the very famous Santa Claus movie to 3rd Rock from the Sun and he is very American in those.
Churchill was half American on his mother's side. Go and read a history book. And he was responsible for for mass starvation in Amritsar India when he diverted rice crops to support the war effort.
the depiction of Churchill is so fucking on point, what an amazing actor john is... I was so drawn to the character in this show, a different point of view on one of the strongest and highest prime ministers in history.. it was just chilling the scene where the queen and him meet for the first time...amazing
Claire Foy is sooo sweet; fantastic actress too. Watched the first 3 episodes of the show. Magnificent performances by Matt, Claire, and John. We finally get a human perspective of the most famous royal family in the world.
Saw the first episode of _Victoria_ and I could not bring myself to see the second. _The Crown_ on the other hand was more engaging and has higher production values. The film score really makes a difference.

His scene in 1:6 I believe, when he is *spoilers* Sick and having to keep the secret from Elizabeth and then caught later in the episode is heart wrenching. His emotional moment with her had me in tears and I knew I had to watch a funny episode of 3rd rock from the sun or Harry and the Henderson’s because I had to know Lithgow was just acting!! It was so real how he portrayed Churchill.
john used to take ballet class with us about 15 years ago( was it that long ago?) and he was so unassuming and quiet. we loved having him there - it was a gift to have him join us. I don't know if he was preparing for a role,or just interested in ballet. good times!
Throughout my life I've seen countless performances of actors portraying Churchill, being a history buff and all. But Lithgow TOPS them all. Every book I read about churchill and every movie I've seen- I pictured the man just how Lithgow portrays him.
These 2 were absolutely exceptional!!! MAGNIFICENT!!!! BOTH deserve awards. The crown is 1 of my favorite shows. All the actors, of course some more than others, but they all served their roles well! VERY WELL!!!

Enjoyed this interview, I am a Brit who was brought up by a Scottish mother who imbued me with a high regard for Churchill and of course his oratory, then I read history for 4 year, and since then have researched Churchill for many further years, and I was bowled over by Lithgoe’s performance. Absolutely wonderful , well done sir you are a credit to American acting. Every detail absolutely on target, especially the soul of the man. Bravo

Just started viewing The Crown. The first thought in my mind was how could they choose such a tall man to play Churchill? I mean Lithgow is a full 10 inches taller than Churchill was. But when Lithgow started to act on screen I quickly forgot about that detail. He was rhe perfect Churchill. I have seen Lithgow play comedy, murderous villain and now aging statesman, all with the same skill and bravado. He is one of the greatest actors of our time.
LOVE Claire Foy and John Lithgow! Lithgow pulled off Churchill quite well (although the British may disagree) and really captured the strengths and weaknesses of Sir Winston Churchill. He truly was an incredible statesman. God save the Queen!

She wasn’t Jewish at all. She was half Huguenot/Scottish and half WASPish, with a claim of some Iroquois ancestry. No Jewish. Also, don’t make a claim and then tell others to look it up when they ask for evidence if you can’t back it up yourself...

Saw John Lithgow at a young age on 30 seconds to Mars which was a hit sitcom. I then saw him on the serial killer thriller show on Showtime, Lexter. Wonderful actor! Seems like Claire Foy is swooning, has utter respect for Mr. Lithgow.
The real life Churchill was a mass murderer who caused the death of millions of Indians in the Bengal famines. But kudos to John Lithgow, exceptional work by this great actor. His portrayal is the best I have ever seen on screen.
Such a talented actor - he did a fantastic job. Watch Episode 9 of Season 1 and you'll know why... I thought that was a fantastic display of his abilities as an actor.

Lithgow put on an outstanding performance; his role and his dedication to serve Queens palace and his strong political views just made it so splendid to watch. And Ms Claire is such a wonderful actress made the Queens role look like a piece of cake! But I’m 100% sure it was not. Great Job!
It would be disrespectful not to feel somewhat intimidated by the prospect of playing Britain's greatest Prime Minister or longest reigning monarch. However both Lithgow and Foy rose to their responsibilities with immaculate performances. I'm not a royalist, but three series in, I salute The Crown for its clear-eyed exploration of Elizabeth, her reign, and the country that was changing around her. My parents were almost exact contemporaries of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, and even though they came from humble backgrounds, I was often reminded of them as I watched the series unfold.
John Lithgow was a great churchill.....so was brendan gleeson who, amazingly, also played the young handsome irish freedom fighter michael collins, who,in many ways, was churchill`s nemesis and totally opposite..
Every now and then I have thought about cancelling my Netflix subscription -- but then I think about The Crown. If that's the only thing I watch on Netflix, it is worth the monthly fee.
John Lithgow was simply stunning as Churchhill, so complete in every way. He deserves an Emmy without question.

Foy is a very good actress. But what's most impressive about her role as QEII is her speech. She speaks the Queen's English FLAWLESSLY on the series.
