    We refer to the Mad Dog as the "Sky Caddy" because they are so great in turbulence. One of the smoothest flying birds in the sky today....it's the T-tail design that makes it so smooth!

    Miss hearing them fly over my house. They were even louder than a 747

    Great video! I feel safer on a 28 yr. old Delta jet than a new one on many other carriers. Delta maintenance is the best. Many other airlines and militaries rely on Delta Tech Ops.

    This was a fascinating video. I am curious about how many times you have flown on the Mad Dog prior to it's retirement.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I didn’t start keeping track of my flights until 2010. And I flew on them before then. Since 2010 though, I flew on them 27 times.

    Did you really use an iPhone 11 to record that? Every time I've used my iPhone to record a flight, the audio has been complete garbage.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The iPhone 11 Pro is what I use for almost all of my filming.

    They still fly MD-80s on commercial routes?!?!?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They (Delta) did, until earlier this year. They have all since been retired thanks to the coronavirus. This was filmed in March.

      @@FlyersAviation If you're up for it, you can still grab a ride in one if you head to Africa or South America :) .....There's ~110 of them still going in small fleets around the world, best bet is Laser Airlines in Venezuela. They used to go to Miami before the US suspended flights, probably won't be lifted a while but they have fairly close routes like the Dominican Republic, although they've scaled back Caribbean service for now. I plan to do this at some point, they also still have MD-81s which had been quite rare for some years and likely the last to fly them. You can even find 737-200s in Venezuela.

      The aircraft is a McDonnell Douglas MD-88. Its nickname, because of the MD, was Mad Dog.
