- While some may have safety concerns involving traffic in Victoria's Inner Harbour, a local transportation safety expert believes it's unlikely the area will see a collision between a float plane and vessel.
What has not been addressed in any report is whether or not there is a zone in Coal Harbour dedicated for aircraft traffic and so noted on marine charts as there is in Victoria. I also believe that Victoria has a harbour control authority that can send marine patrol vessels out to handle any issues with people breaking the laws of navigation and safety…does Vancouver have the same (one would hope so in such a large and busy place that also requires the use of harbour pilots by commerial shipping). It would operate much as air traffic and ground control does at airports.
Victoria has a better assigned area for seaplanes, but it will happen one day. People have to realize that this is a harbor first and a airport second.
