Hey just a genuine question cause I think it's an interesting discussion topic (maybe even for a video ooooooo😂);
Do you think Bruce really was the best deck during the release of the Standard format, or was it truly something else, like my take, Magnolia?
I got into Vanguard when Standard was introduced, so I clearly remember how literally everyone used to play Bruce and would praise him like he was so good compared to the others, that nothing upon release of the format could touch him.
I beg to differ.
Magnolia, when played more aggressively against Bruce back then, from personal experience, was the better deck by a decent margin. Bruce was far too slow to beat down Magnolia to the point where Magnolia couldn't just take a few pot shots and then absolutely demolish Bruce with a field full of strong attackers before Bruce got to turn 4. The Bruce player would either die or have no hand left and die on the following turn if they did manage to survive.
I think Bruce being touted as the best on arrival was simply because people read the skill and just immediately thought "yeah this is nuts" and so didn't even really question whether or not it really was all that.
Interested to hear other people's opinions on the matter, I think that after (what, 2 years already? Holy crap...) a bit of a look back on the start of Standard would be pretty cool, and as I joked about at the top of this message, could make an interesting video concept.

Depending on time frame. If we're talking set 1 or 2, I think bastion/bruce were sadly better. (not restricted to seeing persona or heavy cb)
If we're talking like set 4 times, mag was strong, but there was a few underdog decks that were performing well too.
bruce i think starting set 4 started falling behind, but had an insane OTK turn.

I also think that upon arrival, Greedon was far, FAR better than people gave it credit for, but that's a whole other can of worms.

I use this combo in Dadburg it's so good. The fact these column hit against G2s on the following turn is insaine as well.
With Set 11 we also get Mystiark Habitat as the sneak preview promo which doesn't use soul and checks top 7 too. I love how this rush combo can continue to evolve.

Wouldnt the roaming prison dragon miss the order activation and wouldnt respawn from drop? Since ur using the order to raise the mushroom.

you'll notice I only called one dragon, I called the one I pitched for ride discard, and not the second one that I milled from resentment.
The dragon from ride deck cost sees the order, the one from resentment does not, that's why there is only one on the board and not two.
