30 years ago me and my dad replaced my garage roof. It took a couple of days, he was tired, sore but happy. I learnt a lot about him working together. He's been dead 25 years and it's still one of my strongest memories of him. Your video is a lesson for sons everywhere. Well done.
Whilst Kevin sits at home weeping over the lost opportunity, you guys just crack on with it. Kudos to your dad for support & great job. Loved the cinematography on this episode. HNY to you all & keep on, keepin’ on...
I like the blue and yellow decorative touch on the trailer. It is a very satisfying renovation that will definitely help with moving all your tree stumps to a better location away from your build site. I hope to be as hearty and hale as your dad at age 81. What a trooper.
Ha ha, the blue and yellow lino offcuts will not remain there, they were just to keep some of the rain off on the day. I've now got some water treatment stuff for the plywood. Yep, the old man is still very active at 81 🙂
If you find yourself having to drill through thick metal in the future may i suggest using a large clamp the ones you grip together with your hand clamping together forget the name off hand but it'll save you hours turning your cordless drill or any drill into essentially a drill press
Dear Alec, Gillean, Beatrix and Pops, good to see your update and to see things are progressing and ingenuity is winning over money, makes a much better story in my opinion. Hope you had a good Christmas and I really wish you all a happy and successful New Year, I really hope your dreams come true and McCloud cuts the ribbon on your lovely new home in 2025.
And a Happy new yew to you. Even if you achieved nothing else, you got to spend a couple of days with your dad, treasure these opportunities. For moving stumps around you are not going to need sidegates, any more than 4 or 5 stumps on that single tire will cause all sorts of problems with weight and digging into the dirt of your road.
Yes it was a good few days, for sure. Good thoughts re number of stumps. It's true that the trailer tyres have seen their best days already so I guess I need to be careful 😐
Great to see your dad helping out again Alec, but isn't a few beers and some wine below minimum wage ;-) Hard work drilling through thick steel - one channel I watch (true blue travellers, van life and van conversions) would have bought a magnetic clamp drill for that job! Not exactly a low cost option but a lot less work! Your dad is fitter than I am, and I'm 27 years younger! Damn chronic pain ... If you are anywhere near the Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey boarder and want to borrow a metal cut off saw (355mm) or mig welder (170A), let me know. Both take quite a lot of current (13A) I've not tried a cordless angle grinder - with a mains one using a 1mm thick cutting disk is a lot faster than a 3mm thick one - you do need to keep the disk straight though so maybe they are not great when you are outside hacking up an old trailer! Hope you, Gillian, Beatrix and your dad (and bouncy big doggo) had a great Christmas and have a wonderful new year!
Yep, he's a cheap worker for sure, but I do have to listen to him always complaining about the state of the world. The drill nearly broke my wrist when it grabbed! I might consider a mag clamp if I can find a decent used one... He still goes out cycling 3 times a week so he stays active. Yeah, it was actually a cutting disc on that part of the trailer, but tbh the battery power tools don't really have enough power for this type of work. Thanks for the offer of help but I'm afraid we are quite far away from you! Cheers
EVENIN ALEC, GOBBLER MINCER OF THE SEASON TO YOU AND THE 3 AMIGOS TEAM, LOL, MY APPOLOS AGAIN FOR DELAYING YOU AND YER DAD ON THIS 1, SUPPOSE IT MADE ABIT OF A DIVERSION FOR AN HOUR, YER DAD GOOD MAN TO HAVE AROUND WHEN THE SHITE HITS THE FAN OR MAX LOBL, ÝOU DID GREAT JOB OF WORK ON THE TRAILER AS PER, AS FOR ME, EYE WAS GOIN BACK TO MY ROOTS IN ANOTHER LIFE, SEMPER IN EXCRETA, THATS WAS THE MOTO, HOWS THINGS GOIN, SNAFU, REGS PAT🎉😅😅😂
Nice job adapting the trailer to fit the digger - having attempted something similar with a ride-on mower and a pull along leaf sweeper I know how how tricky alignment can be! Just out of interest when you talk of a sustainable project, are you factoring in the diesel for all the plant? Are you able to use biodiesel for example?
Thanks, the ram does work (I am told), but it won't be operated by the excavator hydraulics. I am going to fit an electric motor and battery with hydraulic reservoir on the trailer in the near future...
Maybe you are tired today...tomorrow you may feel more positive.... I do hope so! These poor souls are giving their all. A bit of constructive criticism is fine......but.... but... but. I do hope you feel more upbeat soon.
It just takes time. I think 2025 will continue to gather momentum and we'll get to see more of what this grand design will become. All building projects need is a bit of self-belief and a lot of vision to see the project through until the end.

Thanks! I doubt that KM is weeping, but we'll do our utmost to make this project interesting and successful 🤠
Happy new year to you too

Brilliant getting your dad on the job, I wonder if your learning anything about him you didn't know.
He does get stuck into a task without complaints but he also spends too much time on his phone 🤠
Well done guys - brilliant job !
Love this video ! Your dad is so sweet :)
Ha ha, I will tell him that, thanks 🤠
Love seeing the detail that wouldn’t be possible with Grand Designs, looking forward to the journey 😊
Thanks, and it will get more detailed as we begin to start the build soon 🤠
Great idea of repurposing for a trailer 🎉🎉
Cheers 🤠
Nice little refurb. Your dad is a trooper and nothing wrong with that hitch, did the job :-)
Thanks, he is great at stuff like this. Still more to do on the trailer but a good start I think.
I'd loved to have seen a tracked dumper at work, but a good enough solution is good enough. Happy Christmas to all three of you, and the dog 👍
Thanks! It will serve us well in the future too with 32 acres of woodland to manage and improve! Happy new year

Thanks, do you mean a quick-clamp?

Thank you! I'm all about ingenuity if it saves some money.
Don't think Kev MCloud will be cutting any ribbons, but I agree that 2025 should be good!
Good ol' ya Dad. Folk who have lived long do have much to say....if only the young would listen to the wise bits.❤🎉❤
@@moiragoldsmith7052 Thank you so much! He's a good worker for sure 🤠
Great job. Best wishes for the New Year
Thank you sir.

Happy new year 🤠

Cheers, biodiesel is an interesting idea. Tbh I hadn't considered it, but I will do some research 🤠
Think maybe you should paint the boards and steelwork, don’t think it will last too long otherwise
Yep your dead right, it's my next task. We just ran out of time that day. It's under a big tarp cover for now 👍
Good answer to not having a tracked dumper. Would it be possible to make the tipper ram work off the digger hydraulics?
Thanks, the ram does work (I am told), but it won't be operated by the excavator hydraulics. I am going to fit an electric motor and battery with hydraulic reservoir on the trailer in the near future...
I’m beginning to understand why Grand Designs said no.
