    Dan, this is a great series. You are one of the most informative instructors on TH-cam. Thanks again for all that you do.

    Agree by far the best golf instructional I've seen - just the right mix of technical, practical and feel based content.

    The best series I have seen. It's the best explanation of what I should be feeling.
    Great stuff Dan.

      I know right. I am really depressed that all of the quality instructors that have demonstrated their skill on youtube are in the UK. If only these guys could be in Phoenix AZ.

    Part 4 is FANTASTIC Dan. If you're a player, you can watch this video and absolutely feel yourself "Nutting" a 4 Iron to 2 feet. (LOL) I can well remember discovering that spinning of the hips before the slight lateral shift. All the difference in the world! As I said before, Dan knows where the "Minefields" are in the game of golf. NOBODY conveys quality golf instruction better!

    Great info 👍 As always Dan I have suffered from slight early extension in the past! If only I had this vid then! The old reverse c look at finish is often a sign you may have early extension and as you mentioned weight still on right toe. I found a product of trying to hit into an imaginary wall at impact.

    Dan , these videos are so helpful. You've always had world class information but now combined with the excellent production value these are some of the best golf instruction videos on TH-cam hands down. I do have one question though. In order to promote getting to my left side before turning hard I find I have to move my ball position quite far forward (mid irons off left heel, driver at or even outside left toe). Is it ok to do this for now to ingrain the need to get on that left leg or am I barking up the wrong tree?
    Thanks!

    PS Definitely going to send swing for internet lesson very soon.

    Hello Dan
    New subscriber and love the video.
    One thing im confused with.... I seem to be struggling to get the club higher across my chest after the one piece takeaway, after videoing myself i can see that I wrist set very late and get ALOT of hip turn but its feel very comfortable (I have alot of flexibility in my hip). It makes it look like im overswinging and my left arm and hands are lower than my right shoulder (if that makes sense). I hit the ball a long way and mostly straight but defiantly get in trouble when looking to hit shots that are not full swings... any advice?

    A problem I have with lateral movement is overdoing it at times and then getting ahead of the ball at impact and blocking it right.

    Mr. Whittaker, what model shoes are you wearing in this series of videos? The soles look thin and flexible - loads of ground-feel.

    • @keithacarl
      @keithacarl 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanWhittakerGolf I figured they weren't for golf but still appealed to my barefoot/minimalist eye. Wasn't sure if it was a specific model made that flexible or just well worn.
      Thank you for your work on TH-cam. Your videos are the most technical and insightful, especially this series which helped me get a better sense of swing mechanics. Still struggling (only playing a couple years), but broke through a plateau a couple weeks ago (e.g. drives from ~209 pull/slice to ~250 straight, 58 yd lob to 2 ft). Going to work with it during the winter and will try hiring you for a swing analysis before next season. God bless.

    I've found that early extension is a result of another problem, not a cause. The problem is that from the top of the back swing, your hands go towards the ball which causes pelvic thrust. You need to drop the hands down inside the ball, then rotate your hips and hands together keeping hands inside the ball line and the club face going outside the hands towards the ball. By doing this, the wrists work in a different and correct way. Since I've started doing this, I've stopped thrusting and sliding my hips because by dropping my hands first, I can at last turn my hands and hips together.

  • @normanlowrie5771
    @normanlowrie5771 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you try to go from the top of the backswing straight towards the ball, you simply cannot use your hips in a rotational manner. They cannot work together until you drop the hands down. Hope this helps someone.

    With great respect for your efforts, I must take issue with your concepts on arm action during transition and left hip action. Not that they are wholly wrong, just incomplete. After seeing your work with Rick Shiels, I looked at your series of 5 lessons. For 40 years I've worked with those concepts, which helped, but lead me to a dead end of different impact problems. The feeling of dropping the club down and behind in transition goes hand in hand with early extension, and routes the club head too shallow and too much from the inside resulting in pushes, snap hooks, thin shots, etc. , the so called "better players errors". Yes, I hit beautiful draws too, but too many other unnecessary mishits as well. And yes, a good athletic swing has that arm action, but it must be countered by a drop of the handle towards the toes, inside the target line, and a counterclockwise rotation of the forearms, with the heel of the club leading the rotation, not the toe. On video, the look will be what u advocate, but the feeling will be quite different, and will encourage the proper hip and arm action you advocate. These are the teachings of Mike Malaska. I've followed instruction like yours for decades and while it helped me to stop the over the top swing and play to a 5 handicap, my ball striking was never solid until I employed Mr. Malaska's teachings, along with those of a relatively new teacher, Clay Ballard. With them, my long game has reached a new level of consistency and quality of strike. Mr. Ballard's teaching of the left hip/leg movement are more thorough, effective and used by many more Pros, than the traditional method u advocate. Shifting of the hip directly over or beyond the left heel, does not allow nearly the same pelvic rotation as shifting forward but slightly behind the left heel. This slight difference in hip action allows/promotes a much better swing path, and overall use of the body with less strain on the back. As a lifelong golf student of 63, I respect and applaud your study, knowledge and efforts to help us all enjoy better golf. As a man who obviously loves to teach, I strongly encourage you to explore the concepts of those 2 men and expand your knowlege. You won't regret making that effort. In some areas, they have gone beyond your modern methods to address/overcome the difficulties that can result from where u are in ur knowledge. Combined with what you already know/do, you will more effective in your efforts, especially with students whom you've helped improved, but now struggle with different "good player" issues. If you look into those 2 teachers, I'd like to know what you think. As I said, I've only seen your series of 5 lessons, but based on that,I can't imagine you won't find Malaska and Ballard enlightening. Thank you and be well!
