    Loving this, my friend! I fell in love with midi guitar controllers after seeing Alan Holdsworth wield the SynthAxe and Pat Metheny on the Roland back in the 80's. Things have come a long way since those early days. Thanks for such a great overview of where things are now. Hope you are doing well!

    I think part of the problem is that many people buy technology thinking they're buying creativity and not realising that this is only the start of the journey. You are obviously a creative person that works WITH the technology, not against it. Guitarists are notoriously critical of just about any technology unless it's an electric guitar and a valve amp..

      You're totally right... but I guess it also is kind of understandable? Drummers have embraced MIDI for the longest time because it maps so well to the instrument - hitting drums at different velocities is a pretty discrete problem whereas we barely entered the age of convenience with polyphonic guitar to MIDI. And still there is mismatch as far as usage is concerned, yeah, we got great virtual instrument like Shreddage, but mapping your emulated MIDI signal to sampler-style instruments still is fairly finicky. Even EWIs are much better off, then you got software not playing nicely (looking at you, FL Studio, where's my MPE support?).
      That being said, they'll budge regardless. It's easy now, it allows for so much creativity, and, if you're not hardstuck on having dedicated instruments do the thing, is pretty darn accessible. There is still much room left for great digital innovation, but with how we're incredibly close to flexible vocal synthesis, got string instruments mostly figured out (I still have to explore the depths of G2M to be very frank, lots of setups I am planning out at the moment), and how everything else should be covered by great sample libs... we're living in a fantastic time for music making. The people were relics when their views were somehow semi popular or repeated by "educators" like Rick Beato; now that thirty years have passed, people are going to change their minds right quick or, let's face it, were barely ever worth listening to in the first place. My biggest issue at the moment is not having enough time and patience for all my toys, and I'm nowhere near as product obsessed as I would like to be.

      Maybe. I'm a Guitarist and Multi-Instrumentalist for the last 48 years, and I still am unhappy with the state of tech integration with my chosen instruments. Just try and tell me that I haven't "paid my dues", or that I shouldn't have been rewarded for my infinite patience by massive improvements, oh let's see... 30 years ago!? 🤨
      BTW - before I get lambasted for "not enough involvement", I've been chasing the tech side of this also with such dedication that I became an Electronics Industry employee and Electronics Tech just so I could solve these idiotic problems. I didn't get a chance to resolve them, only because the a**holes running the industry decided to eliminate ALL local jobs to effing "Asian Outsourcing" back in the '90's.
      I live in the Seattle area, where Rane, Mackie Designs, Boeing, and Symetrix (my alma mater) existed at one time (before I get any guff about being too remote "from an industry hub").

      @@billsybainbridge3362 Well I guess it's a journey. I too am on that quest for seamless technological integration but to me it seems that there have been massive improvements in technology over the last 30 years.

    Spot on my friend. Right out of the gate you said it. Phrasing! When i first tried midi guitar 2, the freedom was there with tracking, and being able to express the music, and not inhibit phrasing etc. Midi guitar 3's innovation furthers all the possibilities that limited us with the hardware controllers . I have had at least 4 of those over the years. Thanks for a great video.

    Thank you for making this! I just found your channel. As a nylon fingerstyle player, I’m not necessarily looking to mimic other sounds, but to use MIDI information to direct individual strings to specific speakers in a multi channel mix. Also as a practice tool - I’d like to see everything align or not (right hand only). Hoping to have all kinds of adventures along the way.

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hy Tyler! I don't know if mimicking other sounds really ever was on the top of my list either, but it is an easy way to help display how far along we are with tracking and MIDI conversion (from audio). But on the other hand, I am no more interested in the actual guitar sound that I am any other, so this is also the best vehicle for me to explore sound manipulation. Not sure I understand "use MIDI information to direct individual strings to specific speakers" though? Are you thinking of having velocity, pitch, or any other MIDI parameter value "choose" speakers? Is it purely a matter of controlling the audio mix with MIDI information from your strings? Having individual strings sending out any messages calls for something like a heaxphonic pickup. Do you have one already, like the Godin perhaps?

    I think your musicality is amazing; emulating such difficult instruments with a guitar is truly impressive and proves that the musician has to modify and adapt the way he plays.
    My experience with synth guitar is quite different: after many years living in Paris, playing in a band, I moved to Normandy’s countryside and I decided to go for an autonomous way of composing and playing live.
    VG-99 is still my main toolbox, with Graphtech Ghost equipped homemade guitars and Kontakt as my bands and orchestras.
    I purchased Guitar Midi, but nobody would help me to make it work with Kontakt!! So I hope the next version will be usable for me!!
    Compactness and simplifying my gear is my goal now.

      @lofileif  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Christian! The VG-99 is still the only Roland unit I would consider using. I is the Roland flagship in my book. Had it not been for the issues I had with the MIDI OUT from that, I would probably not have moved on to the JamOrigin software. I think I have the breakingpoint represented here on my channel with two videos. One where I used the VG99 together with a kontakt sax, and where the next video was my first stab with the MG2. The difference in results were striking, but I have of course spent a lot of time since trying to learn the ins and outs of MG2 and every particular instrument I want to play as units. There are individual differences to take into consideration for each and every one. Kontakt instrument have been particularly hard since that container have evolved to almost exclusively cater towards keyboard players. But it is obviously playable, and I am sorry to hear you got no help with it. I believe that MG3 will be much easier to get started on, for everyone. But it is also immensely deeper. So if you had a license to your MG2 you’ll get a new chance with MG3 for free. And if you need help with that, just let me know! 😀👍

    My setup is Fishman Triple Play with a dedicated LEHLE pedal that extends the dynamic range via Soundigy MIDI LAB , the possibilities are endless, muting open strings, creating as many zones as you like, basically anything you can dream up, however you do have to be handy with programing the MIDI LAB.

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds Interesting! How do you mean "pedal..extends the dynamic range"? Is MIDI LAB remapping the dynamic information from the FTP when passing it on to the synth sounds? And what pedal is it? The Dual Expression?

    • @electrofuzz7396
      @electrofuzz7396 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      MIDI LAB has a "MIDI velocity Amplifiers module" I use 3 of them and depending on the pedal position I route the midi signal to the appropriate amplifier. So if the pedal is at heel down the signal goes to AMP1 that attenuates the midi signal by -13% (for very soft playing), Pedal from heel to mid point passes the signal as it is, Pedal from mid point to almost toe down will send the signal to AMP2 that amplifies the midi signal by +12%, toe all the way down sends the midi signal to AMP3 that amplifies the signal by +45% (this is like when you want to be really loud, it's very helpful because when I pluck the strings very hard a lot of tracking issues might get introduced so with this I can hit hard without introducing these issues) so you "ride the pedal" as you play, pedal to the metal for loud notes, and heal down for those super soft piano notes... or soft saxophone @@lofileif

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe this is one of the premier arguments for using a MIDI Guitar in composing, orchestration or improvisation: that we already know and feel that kind of instrument. The first thing we can start focusing on is stuff like phrasing or actually conveying emotion, rather than stuff like ”how to best finger this note”, or bowing strategies or whatever. The premier argument for the JamOrigin software would be that it is the tool that work the best to achieve it all. 👍

    There’s an effect from EHX, called Freeze which holds the note indefinitely, I think having a momentary pedal function that works similar to this could be very useful to get more sustain

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, sure! My pedal "Hold" use is surely inspired by effect like that. When I was young we use to make a sonic backdrop by just manipulating the Boss delay pedals if I remember correctly! But are you thinking of using it for the clean audio in (for a MG2/3 setup) or is it to freeze the processed MIDI synth sounds? I tried to manipulate the audio in once with a Gamechanger Audio Plus pedal. Kind of interesting, if you are into that sort of stuff: 😀 th-cam.com/video/8EgWVgprIec/w-d-xo.html

    First, thank you so much for your in depth discussions of this topic! My challenge with MIDI Guitar 2 was the amount of work that had to be done to the midi after recording a performance. Even playing super clean, I constantly had very tiny ghost notes overlapping the main note. Either at the start or end of another note. Raising the gate would not help, as it would choke all notes, or lowering went back to the bad behavior. It was just a mess to clean up. I always figured I should make some Logic scripts to automate the process, but I didn’t. Does version 3 improve these issues?

    I still don’t have a studio to be able to sit around and nerd with this stuff all day. I occasionally see new midi guitars hit the market and get a little excited that there are people still trying to make them, but they all come up short. Usually they market them as learning tools for beginners, so they are built like toys and when shown to experienced guitar players they appear to be worthless junk, especially to those who are not familiar with midi guitars and expect them to more resemble a guitar. So I discovered Jam Origin and I have been very enthusiastic to use it with the instrument of my choosing. I’d been in search of a certain aesthetic, or something minimalist with the potential to redesign into a piece that doesn’t simply look like a traditional stratocaster. The software solution has allowed me to use my own custom fiddles, often featuring fine woodworking and occasionally with deer antlers to catch the eye. Imagine the shock when someone realizes I’m playing synthesizers with an instrument made of deer antlers. The other thing worth mentioning is that I often build them with only two or three strings. I feel that this leaves less potential for unintentional notes. I also use viola strings, which don’t sustain as well as steel guitar strings but they also don’t produce harmonics quite as willingly, again reducing unwanted triggering of notes.
    I hope to be able to experiment far more in the future and even use it in a live setting. I’m not sure what the new version will offer to me that I don’t already get from Midi Guitar 2, but any improvements are certainly welcome.

      That sound really creative. Love to see it in action. Well, if you are using polyphonic bends at all - bare minimum being: two notes moving/bending in separate directions from one another - you will benefit greatly from the MPE functionality. Otherwise it is faster, more accurate and if you already own MG2 it is free, so there is really no reason for you not to use it. Unless, of course, you feel it is a step in the wrong direction for any reason. MIDI Violin is also being developed as we speak, and it might be an even better alternative for you. But it is not coming with the MG3 release, I believe. 👍

    I used to have that yellow box seen above in the video (Boss WP-20G) and put an Adrenalinn effects unit after it, which has effect parameters set by its envelope follower or input volume, that allowed me to create dynamic comb filters to create interesting synth like sounds, similar to how physical modelling synths use dynamic comb filters. I had a very expressive horn sound using the two boxes. Horns have a chaotic attack sound due to the bore i guess, which was easier to create with the Adrenalinn by random picking dynamics.

    Thanks for making these videos (just subbed) LOVE your playing and it’s so great that you’re keeping this thing alive! I’ve had a bunch of pitch to midi system’s starting with the Roland GR33, than the AXON AX100 Mkii , GR55, Tripleplay and MG2 ( iOS) Also have an Artiphone and You Rock controllers. They’re all different and have strengths…and many many weaknesses. For me the deal breaker for tripleplay is sustain. Specifically it lets go of a note before I’ve finished playing it. I can still hear the string ringing but the synth has stopped updating ( it’s still sounding, but out of tune because I was adding vibrato while sustaining) MG2 is better in this regard but I’m unable to add vibrato to anything other than single notes?Hopefully MPE will help with this? Do you know if MG3 will be released for iOS cause that’s where all my MPE synths live.

      @lofileif  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, and thanks for those kind words. 🙏🙏🙏 I really appreciate your feedback on your FTP experience. The sustain part of the conversion is an important factor for me as well, and I don't feel a good setup should shorten the already limited time guitars actually ring out. So I agree with you there. Depending on what I setting I used I could actually get MG2 to "latch on" for almost 30 seconds. They only way to judge that is of course to add breath control for expression to accentuate or emphasize the note pitch connection. It is obviously not changing the time the note rings from the guitar, but I feeds the synth the aftertouch it needs not to disconnect prematurely. This was a special case, where I was trying to maximize it, and I believe I used a Parker guitar for this, but standardly I would say that ten seconds was not an impossible ask. MPE will help you with vibrating all pitches simultaneously independantly of each other, and hopefully for as long as the guitar actually rings, but there are a LOT of factors to the tracking, so I would not expect thirty seconds unassisted. No sustain pedal or sustaining pickup or something else. MG3 is absolutely intended for iOS as well. It will come first, I think, for desktop only (at least for the beta version), but it is announced to come for iPad as well (although still as a separate purchase, I think). 👍

      @@lofileif Hey (Leif?) thanks for the reply! You really are like the mad scientist of midi guitar and it’s really inspiring but just as important is what your playing and your approach to the instrument itself. Are you playing with others and are there any uploads of other projects? Watching more of your videos I’ve realized that multichannel audio is an important part of your chain. Now I’m wondering how much this played a role in some other videos that I had seen where I couldn’t believe the tracking you were getting. I discovered this along time ago myself using the axon into mainstage and setting separate channels into omnasphere it was huge! Will MG2 do this out of the box, and if so, how are separate audio signals coming out of a magnetic pick up? What about getting audio out of Tripleplay, or didn’t RMC sell a break out box to seperate audio years ago?

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is Thorleif actually, but since it isn't a real name really, I go with whatever works for you! 😊 I don't consider multichannel an important part of my setup actually (strangely?) since I normally just use my guitar Audio out straight into the audio interface nowadays. For the last few videos I have put up I am playing ONLY MIDI Guitar 3. It has three channels (chains) nowadays, so it works a little like a small DAW or mixer. There is the multichannel aspect, but since it is selfcontained, it doesn't feel like anything I setup really. I have patches with different synth/audio combinations. No hex pickup is used most of the time, even though we are preparing this software to also be compatible with a 6ch input to be able to assign instruments to strings and stuff like that. But that is something for later, I believe. I did a few videos with Hex pickups via GP10 a while ago, if you are interested in that aspect: th-cam.com/video/pYsS1uzQNak/w-d-xo.html
      A breakout box straight into the audio interface is probably the best way togo about things I think, to avoid crappy conversion issues.

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! I believe most, if not all, of us have relatively the same experience: controllers that are somewhat unresponsive, undynamic, glitchy and lacking that controller to instrument connection just enough to make you go ”Hey, I’ll pass on this one and wait for what comes down the line”. The MG2 softtware worked reasonably well with a limited polyphony if you avoided the minor second interval. Not well, according to a number of users! MG3 however, works so much better. It is not a hundred percent yet, but it allows for polyphony and block chords without any limitations on what can be tracked/played. This software is brand new and not out yet, so you haven’t had the opportunity to try it yet. But you should when it is being released. I believe you’ll find it to be a serious contender!

    Hey, LoFILeif! I had a question for you -- for U-HE Diva, and the MPE effects on Midi Guitar 3, does it track polyphonic bending well? For example, blues bends? I play funk, and having the ability to do synthfunk style leads on the guitar would be a dream for me. I am thinking of making the purchase for the license now, but I am curious how improved it will be in 3 (I find 2 decent, but it still has concerning qualities, like triggering ghost notes, at least for me).
    I want to add, I saw this forum post yesterday and thought the posters would be interested in how powerful audio to midi translation has become. DDSP is incredible, but the sound selection is weak. I wish I could pull my VSTs into DDSP.

    • @lofileif

      Hi there, mr Potato? 🤔 U-he Diva is a great synth, but is not the best case for a snappy MPE synth (since there are so many steps to implement CC74). It is however one of the best sounding and playing synths I have for ARPS and Pads, and it works super with MG3. I have yet to be disappointed with how MG3 performs when it comes to trying out synths. I have a lot of full MPE synths like Equator, Cypher and the new Expressive Noisy 2. I also have some wanna be MPE synths like Baby Audios ATOMS and of course all the Arturia stuff, and generally it is the synths capabilities that will let you down. Bad implementations that perhaps is well suited for a particular controller (The Seaboard OR Osmose OR something else) And when it comes o funk and stuff like flamenco, that is heavily dependent on the time keeping aspect for the guitar as well, it certainly creates a problem. It is only a very select number of synths that I have tries that have sounds that would work ok. MG3 is WAY better than MG2 at handling also the snappy stuff. Polyphonic bends is not an issue at all because of the MPE implementation giving every note its own MIDI channel with its own bend and modulation info attached.
      But the best way to know for your self is to try the demo once it becomes available for your platform. 👍

      @@lofileif Hey, thanks so much for the thoughtful response! I really appreciate it. I use Diva a lot, and I couldn't agree more. It has an incredible sound. I'll try out some of the other instruments you mentioned that are full MPE.
      I'm hoping to see a demo release soon for MG3 once it gets out of beta. I like that Jam Origin has kept support for a decade now, and I only see the tech getting better. Strong updates like that make buying the license feel safe, which I appreciate.
      I am also kind of noticing that this desire (midi guitar) is still so niche. But it creates a community of very passionate musicians/developers who want to see this solved -- even if it is in a "sorry state." Eventually, this will be taken for granted once the tech improves.

      First off, this video was from last year and a LOT has happened since. MIDI Guitar 2 is now MIDI Guitar 3 (out on beta testing) . The new software support MPE which opens up a lot of new doors. And just in the last weeks, it has got HEX tracker support, meaning all of us that had a guitar with a hexaphonic pickup on it to begin with can make use of that for an even better pitch-to-midi tracking solution. This is an add-on, however, so you need to have the MG3 software first.
      Now, the MIDI Guitar software has never corrected anything. It is all about being the best representation of what you put in, rather than fixing anything. But when you have your MIDI, you are of course free to do whatever you like with it. But no fixing in the conversion process.
      Can you use the GM800 with the MIDI Guitar software? Yes, as I mentioned above,.You can, if you use MG3 and purchase the Hextracker add-on. 👍

    I realise I am late to this video, but I still see some discussion so I wanted to add a couple of things.
    (1) The image at the very start of the video is hilarious! Thank you for that chuckle.
    (2) It was informative to see that many of the things I've thought to try myself have already been tried by others, such as using a sustaniac pickup (I've experimented with the Freqout pedal and software based sustainers as well but the results were not good, unsurprisingly perhaps). My question though is whether anyone has experimented with Line 6 Variax modeling guitars in combination with Midi Guitar 2 (or in other ways). It's an interesting instrument in that, aside from the ability to use alternate guitar tunings on the fly, select from a variety of (in-guitar) modeled instruments, you can do things such completely turning off individual strings. This might not sound like it would have much utility, but it seems to me that there might actually be many occasions when tracking guitar for midi that there could be usefulness in limiting the tracking just to certain strings. Thoughts?

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi!
      Yeah, first image is what you get hen you ask AI to whip up something with MIDI Guitar. ☺️ On your query about Variax modeling guitars, I know that the JamOrigin used them in an early stage of the machine learning process together with a lot of other guitars. But it has since been omitted from the target test group. I uses hexPU, does it not? That is not (yet) integrated fully into the MG2/3 tracker setup, so it is something of a non-question at this time. But that might very well change. The question is how you intend to use it. MG3 (now out as beta for MacOS) just as MG2 before it need a decent signal, with low noise to signal ratio, and high brighness. You can't really mess around d with those parameters once you''ve set up. So it is not like you would be a bee to use all the different modeled guitars you have as input for MG2/3 and not have the MIDI tracking affected. I have not heard any reports of Variaxes being the superior input for MG2/3 either, with is something I a sure would have come up at this point. But I don't have one, and I cane wrong.

      Thanks for replying. Everything you've stated makes sense. I don't have a Variax guitar either, but would be interested in experimenting with one outside of midi use cases at least. Alas, it would be difficult for me to justify the cost of one when there's other gear and software my money would probably be more wisely spent on.
      I don't know how I've overlooked this channel for so long. You seem to be a very well rounded musician (my compliments to your playing and composing) and your channel is sn informative and entertaining resource on these topics. Subbed. Cheers.

      The big problem with guiatrists coming into the synth world is that you have to think like a synth player playing guitar not a guitar player playing a guitar that sounds like a synth!

    • @lofileif

      @@nickjitsu I am not sure I agree with that anymore (after having worked with MG3). MPE, and the polyphonic bends in particular, enable guitar gestures to be played on almost any synth or virtual instrument. There is, of course, a limitation for those instruments that are supposed to be "copies" of real instruments in that they might be strictly monophonic or written to behave as vintage gear. But it is much more a case of us coming in and imposing our guitarist ways on instruments now, than with MIDI 1.0. And with regards to the amount of controllers: it is up to you how many parameters you want to actively be in command of. Pitch is in your hands, and sustain and modulation you can leave up to MG3 to handle if you are not a control freak like me that wants hands-on control at all times.

      @lofileif  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there! You have probably not missed anything per se. This was meant as a comment on the rather bleak outlook for MIDI Guitar painted by many of the thread posters. I have used a lot of Rolands stuff myself and I believe the general consensus around the Roland/Boss products' MIDI OUT is that it is not up to par. Also for the newer products that I haven't tested myself (SY-1000, GM-800 and others) In my personal experience I felt a much more direct connection with any sort of third party VST/AU instrument output when I moved over to MG2 back in 2017. So I am not talking about the Boss onboard modeled sounds here. They are pretty decent. I am talking about hooking this up to a DAW, and trying to play/perform with other developers software, using the BOSS/Roland units as mediators, or part of a MIDI Guitar controller setup. Used that way, their MIDI OUT is not up to par. And as I have worked with JamOrigin trying out their next generation of the software solution for MIDI Guitar, I have gotten to experience what it will mean to use your guitar as an MPE controller which gives us totally new possibilities of control and sound modulation in real time. And it it was just that perspective I wanted to share, showing the app in actual use instead of just talking g about it. Connection, Dynamics and over and above anything else MPE, is what I would point to, if you like to compare the technologies. If none of those things seem relevant, and you are more interested in using the BOSS onboard sounds, those machines are still great piece of gear. Robust and reliable, in my experience. 👍

I don’t like the idea of making a lot of videos with cool technical solutions and not explaining to people how to achieve those for themselves. 👍

    I have had a play on a few audio to midi converters, no special hardware and I have found that you get much better tracking results if you concentrate on playing technically well, seems obvious but I mean picking every note, clearly , fretting with only fingertips etc. playing like a classically trained guitarist. Basically you can't make a silk purse from a pigs ear. !

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree 💯! I’ve spent the last years developing a hybrid picking approach just to be able to be in control of what notes should be ringing and when. And there are a few parts of that techique where the fingertips both fret and dampen notes. I guess you’ve heard Allan Holdswoth’s response to people complaining about how spurious notes bothered them on the SynthAxe? ”Just don’t play them then”😀👍

      @@lofileif I have to echo his sentiments although I don't claim to be as proficient !
      I actually own one of the Yamaha midi "guitars" with buttons instead of frets, that make me think of the vox organ guitar I will probably never own! There is a certain way to play that thing too, some of which seems to apply to audio 2 midi as well.
      I have a TC helicon talkbox synth that does a great job of tracking or whatever it actually does. That is a way of getting a synth sound, but there is no midi output. I'm going to test it with the audio to midi software I have , to see if the "synth" sounds it creates track better than a guitar signal.

    Interesting video! I might go and read the thread.
    I'm just writting the scripts for a comparison video between the Triple Play, MG2 and Jamstik. I've used all 3 live, but (spoilers) my go to is the Triple Play (and no, I don't work for Fishman). The TP is the best for live performance by far, but only because the MG2 is terrible at chords and it won't do the sostinuto (holding a chord while playing over the top). I did quiz the guys at Jam Origin about the sostenuto thing, but.......! There's a few other wee quirks and it doesn't play nicely with Mainstage either.
    It is the best at tracking however, so I use it to play synth solos and string lines in the studio. It's also the cheapest and most easily available.
    The Jamstik.....er........it's a great colour!
    I'm interested in the Midi guitar 3 though. I hope It solves the chords issue and they have taken the sostenuto thing seriously (It looks from your demo they might have). MPE is handy. I could do a lot with that.
    By the way. If anyone asks if it tracks fast enough (one of the questions I'm asked most) the point them to Roy Marchbank, then please never bother us with that question ever again!
    😂

      Hey there! Thanks for the feedback. You are not the first one to choose FTP over any the competition, and I guess it is for good reason. I am sure it is the best compromise available on the market today. I say compromise since all systems have their drawbacks, and none are perfect. It would be interesting to know why you didn't like the Jamstik. I have heard both good and bad stuff about it.
      About the sostenuto function, I have used the same setup with MG2 but in a DAW using 2 tracks with the same synths on them, controlling one with an expression pedal. It is possible inside MG3 because of the three chains now. I do think people in general are underestimating the importance of MPE however. The polyphonic bend is what makes a guitar a guitar, and to be able to convey or pass that trait along to any software instrument is a game changer in terms of control. But I guess that will be clear once they get to use it, and understand what it actually does better.
      And of course I am familiar with Roy's otherworldly picking game! 😀🎸

MG3 has a totally different structure now though, with patch switching possible by a up and a down CC value command too. And I am pretty sure that many of the things people use Gigperformer, MainStage, Camelot or Cantabile for will be able to do inside of MG3 itself. It has evolved to quite a performance rack actually.

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To begin with, MG3 is (at the moment) a MPE software with the option of working as a (legacy) MIDI 1.0. This is a setting you can do for each instrument if you like , so you can have MPE and MIDI 1.0 insertments running side by side. And for any MIDI 1.0 instrument there is a choice as to which MIDI channel it is going to send, so you can have a preset with different synths sending to different MIDI channels. So if MG3 is ported to iOS (as it is today), these functions will most certainly be there. But, I give you NO promises, as I don't know for sure. I can only speak of what I know. 🤐👍

Not that much money though, after finding MG2. I suddenly got off that buying-the-latest-gear-train toward inevitable destitution, so I could spend my hard earned cash on software instruments instead. But sure, they aren't cheap either, so you are probably right. I agree on the physical modeling stuff, of course; and would just like to add that guitar as a MIDI controller has not worked until MPE. When we can get all the incremental movement from the strings to convey into the MIDI output, suddenly synths are starting to sound like the Obeheims, if you compare these to dead one oscillator competitors. It is even a fact that some instruments work better with the pitch unrest that is MPE guitar, than they do with any keyboard controller. Like the Valves in the video. It does not come through in this snippet of course, but it really is a significant difference in how even Kontakt instruments 🤯 behave. I can't wait for everyone to get to test this!
