You're getting the hang of it. That is premium material, and VERY conformable. It's almost spoiling when compared to other wrapping films. I work in the wrap industry.
As you probably learned, it would have been best to start somewhere between the outside edge of the helmet, and the halfway mark down the center of the helmet. Split the difference and force air outwards in all directions (towards center of helmet, outside edge, bottom and top).
My recommend is to lay some fineline or painter's tape (or other low tack) down the center line of the helmet prior. You can then cut the vinyl straight down the center after wrapped for a clean edge, without worrying about cutting into your helmet/paint job (worse you can do is cut into the protective layer of tape). Then peel away the underlying tape and finish squeegeeing the vinyl.
You can work this material by hand easily enough. But a bondo squeegee with some felt glued over the edge will make for a non scratch applicator in a pinch...
But for god sake... dust the table off, then dust it off again... then use a tack rag and wipe everything down... lol.
All kinds of dust and debris can collect on the static prone vinyl material.
Fwiw, I am gald to see you didn't use a soap solution! Great vids btw!
I think hydro dipping would work great for those kind of purposes, would love to see a DIY version of that on printed props
Roman van der Rijt, Over in the Nerf Blaster Modding scene, we've been hydro dipping prop blasters for ages now. It's really something that I'd like to see Uncle Jessy take a crack at. Plus its a whole lot less labor intensive and just takes a slow steady hand.
I know I'm sorta late to the game but if you didn't get it sorted out. You need to start on the biggest 'flat' area
So the side, it will then fold into all the curves on the side much easier. Over hang the CF past the middle (I would make it big enough to wrap the entire front of the face)
It will make pulling out and wrinkles much easier along the face.
Once you have it applied past where you need it, cut it down the middle of the face.
You may need to apply some sort of glue in spots. Depending on the brand you bought the glue may start to lift in spots
Also only heat to shrink it not stretch it
I just came across your channel and Im honestly impressed, keep doing what you're doing uncle jessy :) - a happy subscriber
I did the same on a foam pepakura helmet, wasn't easy as you know but it looked awesome when finished. You're getting the hang of it. 🖒
Dylan Rickenbacker oh nice! Yea a little tricky and going to attempt it again
Uncle Jessy wish I could send you a pic but I don't know how on TH-cam.
Jessey, i' m not sure if this works the same way. but when we used to do vinyl wraps at work we had a spray bottle with soapy water to spray on the vehicle, that let the wrap slide around so we could place it better, then when the water dried it would be good and stuck.
Nice man, thanks for the tips 🙌
Nice one Uncle! BIG FAN
the wrap will pull away over time sir. any concave areas you apply glue to hold it in place, i wrapped my bike and it came away on areas of the tank. also dont stretch to much as you will pull a hole in it. also glue around the inside of the mask or it will pull away there to over time. big hug....
I saw a wolverine helmet in the first 3 seconds of the video. Did you ever do a video for that guy?
Jay Jay 😬 not yet.
Uncle Jessy i think you should give me the deadpool 3d mask please
These stuff happen when it's you first time wrapping, but good for you for figuring it out.
Love form Trinidad
Mmm only 476 likes back then and I thought you had your eye done but this was 6 years ago. Things changed :) Famous now
what paint did u use im building the same one i cant wait to get my hands on a cr-10
Try adding it to the starlord blaster handles, they have a carbon fiber desing in the films
Hey how do you get rid of your print lines and what glue do you use
I was actually thinking of making this it’s a shame you haven’t done the finished mask
I was thinking of printing in two half’s one side printed in black and left raw perhaps try to change the setting to make the lines show more giving the same effect
Did you end up redoing this?
hey man did you ever finish this?
Hey uncle Jesse you ever consider selling any props or taking any requests for money of course. I've been searching for an oni mask and nothing so far and a custom one would be dope I'm willing to talk prices if you're down love your work
What paint did you use for the mask
3m makes one vinyl that might cost a bit more but it easier to work with called controltac with comply. This is what I used when I made my deathstroke . Heat and pull I also laid it down everywhere then cut the straight line in the middle after. This helped by allowing me to pull the vinyl in all directions.
avery or mactac wrap viny work as well
Did you finish the mask yet?
Great work man !! It's amazing!!
Why not printed wrench mask please.. ^ ^
You literally tackled an advanced project, typically it's harder to add vinyl to curved edges on an object like that.
@unclejessy try a hydrograpics dipping kit
You should definitely print a red hood helmet and add the carbon fibre to curtain areas to give it your own design that would be really cool
Have you considered Hydrodipping? It would be a lot quicker of process with the same result
Use Windex. Coat the area in some Windex and the vinyl will slide on the surface while you perfect the positioning and as it dries the vinyl will adhere.
William Stephens okay, now that I have to try!! Thanks for the tip
Be sure to not use a lot of liquid, just a light coat. I'm rusty on the technique but I'm sure there's info online on how to wet-apply vinyl to cars. I hope it helps.
I took a 3m installer class. They don't recommend Windex due to the ammonia. But the do say to use a slip solution of a few drops of baby shampoo and water. Also a grip solution of rubbing alcohol and water when you need to blast off some of the slip.
That works well, too. Windex is easier, but I hadn't considered the ammonia.
so i want to learn how to start modeling mask for my self what is the best starting point?
James Smallwood fusion360 seems to be the go to for everyone. I’m also in the same boat as you. Looking for good tutorials on TH-cam
Have a great vacation
Can you please do it on 5 mm foam?
I wonder if you could use a vacuum form and suck the wrap over the mask.
no will not work also he used a unbranded vinyl
hey jessy. The hydrographics form is easier to use.
I did a carbon fiber look with shelf liner a spray paint
Use 3m or Avery car wrap carbon fibre vinyl
You should of probably made a template and traced that template on the carbon fiber paper. Then cut out the pieces and then applied them to the helmet
If done successfully, this should also apply a decent amount of mechanical strength
Why not use hydrographics?
Should try hydrodipping it maybe more easier..great vid tho
You need to vacuum form the material next time.
What name colour is that?
Man I will sell you a very good spare kidney of mine for the mask. It's 29 year old, Prime Australian Kidney. I have a spare too but I'll need that to live happily ever after with an awesome mask ☺
That's well to curvy to wrap
I just got a 3D printer I print the wolverine mask
What you want to do is not do the line in the middle of the mask, wrap it from the another direction then cut that line straight last
And if you want to ensure a straight line without needing to 'cut' it, you could grab some knifeless tape and run that down the center line first before applying the vinyl
0:02 Dude do you not paint your props?
Wrap Pickle Rick in chrome
I came from watching Matthieu Libeert skinning spiderman and iron man mask.
Should have hydro dipped it
I also made a back to the mask now. You can get it here. www.thingiverse.com/thing:2425462
Shoulda hydrodipped it
Kamen rider w helmet plêase
Dip it
