In a desperate attempt to contain the madness, the king established the Prison and a research lab deep within the cave. However, these efforts only intensified the horrors, with prisoners and experimental subjects transforming into nightmarish creatures.
Faced with an unsolvable problem, the king ordered the evacuation of the citadel, renaming it Shadowspire Citadel to symbolize the lurking madness beneath its noble facade. A loyal giant was tasked with guarding the entrance to the cave, sealing the fate of those trapped inside.
As time passed, the remaining inhabitants transformed into abominable creatures, each lurking in various levels of the cave.
