Walter Brennan had a movie series back in the '30s where he was a Captain of the high seas. One of the series was exactly this - they get stranded on a desert island. At first I thought Walter Brennan was in this - Nice upload
Realtively short adventure / romance flick. Lots of action, character studies and very good acting. the director did a whale of a job. Mucho entertaining. Some say it went by too fast. I could have stood another half hour easy. TY CCC. Great chat gang. 3.5 ⭐s. 🤩
I think this is one of the films they limited to around an hour so the drive-ins could run double features (both features were distributed as a package).
I like BOTH the B&W and the Colorized versions, each being rather a different experience. Combine the glass half-empty with the one half-full, and you've got it all !!

At 11:40 the navagator gives an erronious position. He says west instead of east. The position he radio'd was between Hawaii and the US mainland...not 700 miles north of Guam. Someone who knew a little bit wrote or edited the script, very plausable. Still, the searchers would know the clipper had flown west from Hawaii and the position must have switched east and west. Eight years after the movie was made hundreds of B29 bombers would pass this point, half way to their bombing mission over Tokyo. These movies are more interesting if you know the history, the context.

At 11:43, their "approximate position is "N 22, W 143." That position is about 300 miles due EAST of Honolulu. So what are they doing, flying in circles or back to the mainland?
This is a great movie I would love to have a set up like that on an island. I wouldn't leave either. I live on a boat and I'm surrounded by Islands but boat people not welcome to set foot on land, unless they find a place to come ashore and have written permission from a landowner. We have to sneak around to get to shore, and be haunted by police and millionaires. I got mine and not in my backyard kind of people. I worked my ass off on this Island Building swimming pools and homes and putting up fences for a bunch of ungrateful millionaire scum. And they all wish they could live like me, but they just can't get used to the hard work that it is. Living on a boat is anything but free.
That servant laughts to much, but the owner is right. These entitled jerks need to do some work for once. America is full of these types of crooks even in 1938. No doubt going back to the beginning.
Ah, the days before frisking and pat downs when it was possible to bring weapons and wads of money on an aeroplane. How about the size of that men's room!
The only thing worse than Harold Robert Buckley string of unlikely relationships, coincidences, and right on time deaths, and very unlikely conduct awful writing is the terrible direction and awful acting. Shame on the studio.

A lot of Sinners movies back then... I take it sinners was like a 30's code term for people who liked to live it up and generally have a good time.
Haven't seen this before and it wasn't too bad. Did remind me of Gilligan's Island though. Well worth watching again. Thanks for posting it. Joe S

I just found out there is a color version of this movie. Everything is better in color. Wasn't to thrilled about the ending. Fell flat in my book.
