Fun fact the Rito's night vision is not the best, as confirmed by one of the female Rito in Breath of the Wild...and the fight with the Blights is during a stormy, rainy night. He fought in the dark and cold, up until he couldn't fight no more...and could barely see. It was probably one of the reasons he failed.
@@Jaynopoly It's unclear whether he had his weapon or not. I'm aware that in the DLC fight, we didn't get the great eagle bow, however it would of made an already ridiculously easy fight much easier.

I accidentally killed Ganon with Revali. He's my main (besides Link) so I started the battle with him and was going to switch to Link when my health got too low - and then it didn't. Having just beat Ganon with Revali made his "Don't screw this up!" in the cut scene that much funnier!
I do like the English version's Revali's snark, but he definitelt comes across as far more of an asshole than he does in Japanese, especially that scene just before he shows off Vah Medoh. In the Japanese version, instead of calling Link a 'nobody', he sounds a lot more like a miffed, slightly haughty child: 'Why is Link the one leading the battle?' (Yes, calling him by his name rather than replacing it with an insult). Furthermore, he doesn't laugh and talk about enjoying watching Link fail as the fallen knight. Instead, he says something along the lines of: 'You better not drag our reputations through the mud with you if you fail'. Which I think sounds a lot less hostile and aggressive, and more like a salty warning. Sean Chiplock's voice acting is wonderful though and I think Revali's arrogance remains faithful, but I do think Revali's animosity towards Link was exaggerated a touch too much.
Even without the context you provided, I always felt like his tone was a bit too exaggerated. Like, beyond arrogant to the point of mean spirited. America is not very good at making balanced characters. Especially for younger audiences. Theyre either good or complete assholes.
I love Sean acting, but you're right. I also played with the latin Spanish localization and it's just so different, for example when you change between Link and him instead of being a jerk he says playfully with a little chuckle "so you need me, eh Link?". It really change the mood playing with a teasing ravioli instead of an arrogant one. Another example it's that he's no always being so mean to Link, you can get more of his character in that localization
I've given it a lot of time and thought, and I think, in the English version at least, you need to sort of forget the connection between AoC and BotW and take the former on its own events. I mean, Revali and Link meet under much heavier circumstances in this game--in the battle that, at that time, Revali believed was to the death. He thought Link was an enemy about to destroy his home, and if *he* (the last Rito standing) failed, then he and more importantly his people were going to die. There are non-fighters in the village, including children. My personal theory is that during that moment in flurry rush, Revali saw Link's sword coming at him and thought Link was going to hit and kill him instead of parrying the arrow--he could've panicked. I also think that's why that scene is shot so strangely with the zoom in on his eye and then the dutch angle when he lands after Zelda yells to them to stop. He might act calm, but inwardly during that close-up shot he could've been thinking: "Okay, I was about to die and now I'm not and there's the princess of Hyrule right over there SO WHAT IS GOING ON?" In that scene afterward, at the Flight Range, Revali probably felt like a fool. He'd misjudged the situation, gotten his soldiers hurt/incapacitated, and used up a good chunk of their weapons and arrow supply. It wasn't until they started talking about the Calamity was he able to step in and be able to push his embarrassment down enough to continue on with his haughty persona because he, now having full scope of the situation, knew what the princess wanted of him. But Revali could have been secretly lambasting himself for his--or what he'd consider his--failure, both in that moment and the time off-screen. People have noted that the guy has a sort of "reverse performance pressure", meaning he becomes confident around others but insecure on his own... and he's typically on his own. Insecurity can make someone merciless on themselves for their mistakes. And those feelings just wouldn't go away because he was so mad at himself. Logic and emotions don't always get along (something I know all too well...). You can have a perfect, logical understanding of what's happened and *still* have strong emotions about it no matter how hard you try and let it go. I'm not trying to excuse his actions, but I think he was so vicious to Link because he needed someone to put the blame on and he was sick of blaming himself. What he says, especially mocking Link about becoming "the fallen knight" is legit awful of him, but we all say things that feel good in the moment and end up really regretting later. If Revali did indeed realize he went too far, he'd be too proud of admit he was really, seriously wrong because he doesn't want *anyone* seeing *ANY* sign of weakness in him. As for the language differences? Well, we don't just have the voice actor but also voice directors. Maybe they saw things differently. Sean Chiplock seems to think so; there's a five-minute video of him explaning Revali's character--but I'm too nervous to put the link to it here so I'm afraid you'll have to find it on your own, but luckily it isn't too hard to find! Sorry this was so long! I'm not trying to excuse or defend Revali with his acting like a featherbrained jerk (...what? You'd think I'd say "bird-brained"? That'd be racist! XD), but I've been playing Age of Calamity for almost a thousand hours up to now, NO JOKE, and a good hundred at least were me trying to figure Revali out. From his dialogue, to his expressions, to even his idle animations and all the pieces (from my personal perspective) seem to fit that of a featherbrained jerk, but a LIKABLE featherbrained jerk. XD And now, after this all this writing, I am going to pass out now. Bye~!
Japanese Revali uses a lot of terms that do have simple translations in English, but have a degree of disrespect that can't be directly translated into English. The English version has very little choice but to make some script changes to carry over his level of arrogance and disrespect towards Link. He's actually mostly the same in both versions.
Sorry for the late reply lol but I am SO glad I’m not the only one who noticed this!!! I found that he was MUUUCH more tolerable in Japanese, he didn’t feel as aggressive. And while I don’t know the exact translations of the Japanese lines, I do feel like they were much… nicer than the english translation. I think someone spoke about this in a video, can't remember who it was sorry, but I think he brought up a point that Revali resents the privilege Link was born into. Whereas Revali was a normal guy in small humble village, so he had to do a lot more to prove himself.

Not gonna lie, it’s a shame that Mipha and Revali didn’t interact much in any of the cutscenes in this game. Believe it or not, some people actually ship them together even though they’re literally opposites.
Oh yeah ive been seeing the ship everywhere lately all of a sudden I do wish they interacted more for sure!! Why did nobody ever tell this bird to shut his beak; nobody likes him? I swear to God that Revali is the Vegeta of Hyrule. He needs several humiliation congas to get him to come around. (I don't hate Revali. I really love him as a character. He's a favorite of mine. Just that in Rito terms, he's a teenager who feels he has to be the best and show everyone else up about it. I considered that when he was younger, he was insulted or bullied, and this was his revenge of sorts. Becoming the best ever.)
I mean he seems taller then Link but compared to Teba he's actually shorter leading me to believe he's probably still young like a teen or young adult in age probably
**Mocks Link** **Also ignores how Link snapped a sword around faster than a released arrow with accuracy enough to deflect... then locked before contact** Though I get the feeling such mockery was what drove him to such heights in the first place. Developing and ego/ fear of anyone coming close to or exceeding their skill. performance
Revali may be my favorite fictional character, but he was done a disservice in this game and BotW. Sean Chiplock does a fine job with the voice, but the voice direction and the writing are unbearably cheesy, and exacerbate the problem of characters feeling one-dimensional. Revali could have been so much more, if he was written better. He honestly could have been the main character instead of that rat bastard Link; he had so much more to prove, ambitions, emotion! Link had none of that since the protagonist has to be a blank-slate, self insert character do a game like BotW. Revali's design is awesome, so it's a shame that the developers didn't flesh him out as fully as he could have been.
"RAT BASTARD" FKSHSJDNKDJKSKS i do agree with you! But I think the BOTW writers set up Revali's character to be so much more, especially in the DLC...Only for that to be ignored and for his character to be dumbed down to "this dude just hates the hell out of Link and he's a prick" in HW:AOC. The BOTW writers might not have given him as much character or story as they could have, but the HW:AOC writers soiled what he could have been. The more I think about it, the more it feels like the aoc writers hate him haha I'm definitely over the moon about more content of him (clearly) but now that I've calmed down from my initial excitement, as a Revali fan I'm not too jazzed about the clear lack of understanding of him in HW:AOC.... LIKE IT WAS A PREQUEL WE COULD HAVE SEEN *WHY* HE HAD INSECURITY ISSUES SO BAD THAT HIS ATTITUDE WAS SO SOUR AT LINK! OR SEEN HOW MUCH HE LOVES AND VALUES HIS PEOPLE LIKE IT INSINUATES IN BOTW OR- 😑 bbbbbb it's fine. This is why we have fanfiction, afterall

I appreciate your response!
He wasn't even fleshed out in BOTW or the dlc since he was death and there was 0 character development (I honestly think the dlc should've been better than what we got), I agree that this could have been the game to make him a better character since he get to interact with him but sadly it wasn't.

There's so many fights about if revali would have won the fight against link or not, and if plot armor was not there, I strongly believe revali could do it, however link obviously wasnt fighting with the intention to kill, because as you can see most of what he was doing was dodging instead of landing attacks. If that arrow was released, link likely would have been able to block if he was lucky, but if he didn't manage to block it, his sword likely would have hit revali before he went down aswell

he rlly survived in *this story* and so did the other champions. Cause the little egg (you may have seen) can time travel which is the reason for the whole story to change so much.

@@uniokld9110 Nahhh I like them being dead way better, a cool tragic war gone wrong lol and the death scenes are sad asf, fits a Zelda game, them comming back to life seems cheesy. And plus it doesn’t add up with Zelda not being able to summon her sealing powers which is why they died practically . I love how things go south in this incarnation
Not gonna lie, it’s a shame that Mipha and Revali didn’t interact much in any of the cutscenes in this game. Believe it or not, some people actually ship them together even though they’re literally opposites.
Oh yeah ive been seeing the ship everywhere lately all of a sudden
I do wish they interacted more for sure!! I like thinking about the dynamic of their friendship,,, but I honestly can't see them more than that?
Those shippers can totally have at it tho they always look like they're having so much fun
@@zzariyo Yeah! I personally do kinda ship them but I definitely see why people don’t ship them as Mipha loves Link whereas Revali is rude to him lol and it’s crazy how that ship has been getting some attention recently. I’m not sure why it is but I recall seeing an AOC post on Reddit regarding it.
@@zzariyo Also, out of curiosity, do you know if there is ever actually a cutscene in AOC where Mipha and Revali ever interact?? Sorry for the dumb question but I haven’t finished AOC’s story yet. 🙂

Revali acted like such a tsundere after Link defeated Windblight Ganon
and this is why revali is my favorite champion.
"RAT BASTARD" FKSHSJDNKDJKSKS
i do agree with you! The more I think about it, the more it feels like the aoc writers hate him haha
I'm definitely over the moon about more content of him (clearly) but now that I've calmed down from my initial excitement, as a Revali fan I'm not too jazzed about the clear lack of understanding of him in HW:AOC....
LIKE IT WAS A PREQUEL WE COULD HAVE SEEN *WHY* HE HAD INSECURITY ISSUES SO BAD THAT HIS ATTITUDE WAS SO SOUR AT LINK! OR SEEN HOW MUCH HE LOVES AND VALUES HIS PEOPLE LIKE IT INSINUATES IN BOTW OR-
😑 bbbbbb it's fine. This is why we have fanfiction, afterall
@@zzariyo Thanks so much for taking the time to respond, it's not often I find someone with a fondness for character analysis. I haven't played AoC myself, but I have seen all that I need to from the cutscenes to decipher it's similarity to BotW. I feel like the writers of BotW either knew what they were doing when they created the personality for this slick, pompous sniping falcon and were crippled by the primitive character trope- writing guidelines, or they were simply incompetent to express his majesty and elegance. I appreciate your response!
@@andymcclurg9916 Sure thing!! I could go on about this stuff
Basically, we love Nintendo characters but hate Koei Tecmo writers
Yes, Revali has many layers
He wasn't even fleshed out in BOTW or the dlc since he was death and there was 0 character development (I honestly think the dlc should've been better than what we got), I agree that this could have been the game to make him a better character since he get to interact with him but sadly it wasn't.
He's saltier than 5 rock salts combined into one salty disaster
Y'know i don't think it's a coincidence that my favorite food is ravioli and that ravioli is my favorite champion
Pidgeot's keystone is reacting to Revali's mega ego

So like am I the only person who likes ravali?
No, he is my will to live.
Revali: Continues to make fun of Link
