    You were right when you said “if this was a puzzle would you even play on?”
    In a real game of chess I would have never seen any of this.

    This study was used in the book by Hans-Hilmar Staudte and Milu Milescu as an opening hook, showing how exciting seemingly boring endgames can be. And how out of absolutely nowhere checkmate can occur.

    If I was white I would have given up. As black, I would have cried if I saw white recover like that. This is such a stunning puzzle

    Bf6, f2, c4+, c3 enpassant, bxc3 protected by pawn… and then you save the knight

    Cool puzzle. But the title is misleading, because in the solution you do not stop the pawn from promoting.

  • @Majorfatal1

    The title says "Stop the Pawn". The pawn was never stopped. Misleading.

    • @ChessforCharity
      @ChessforCharity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, you had to stop the pawn from promoting in order to win. Sorry you saw that as misleading. Thanks for watching!

      @@ChessforCharity But the pawn DID promote.

    • @ChessforCharity
      @ChessforCharity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@suserman7775 Maybe I could have worded it better. It was captured right when it got promoted, so you did 'stop it' in one way, but I see your point. 🙂

      @@ChessforCharity I think the idea is that the pawn isn't even captured, but rather black is mated right after promotion instead. It was a technicality I noticed too, but I got the point of the puzzle.

      Do you mean taking the white pawn "en passant" after c4 ? There are no illegal moves in this video.

    • @ChessforCharity
      @ChessforCharity  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, all of the moves here are according to the rules. Thanks for watching!

    • @kevinmcknight5000
      @kevinmcknight5000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you would like to know, I can explain the history and reasoning for it being a move. The main idea is that it is there to prevent a player from getting a passed pawn by moving it 2 squares next to an opponent's pawn and instead allow the pawn to capture it as if it only moved 1 space.

      Then, Bishop goes to f6 and the next move is Bishop takes on d4.

    • @ChessforCharity
      @ChessforCharity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! I should have shown that line. In that case, the pawn can easily be tracked down and the bishop can capture the pawn. Thanks for watching!
