Haven’t done Saddleback in years but people underestimate the difficulty here a lot. I’ll never forget seeing a couple making their way up late summer as I was coming down. Totally unprepared, they had brought a single liter bottle of water. The hike is no joke especially on a hot day.

I hiked saddleback mountain when I was 11, I am glad we brought a lot of water because it is more difficult than it looks.

Great video. Love this new format with some clips of you sharing information and clips of you hiking. Also, nice to have someone who films (records?) and actually looks at the camera lens. I'm still amazed by those who film themselves and look at their live screen view while they do it. I had to laugh at the re-usuable grocery bag in the car. I use those also, mostly to put my dirty/ muddy shoes, clothes etc in when I get back to the car.

I've never hiked this trail, but I did ride my mountain bike up Holy Jim and Main Divide to the peak, with my brother. It was a butt-kicker and I was 15 years younger. I plan on hiking Santiago Peak soon, so thanks a bunch for the video and trail map.

I guess the last guy to be killed in Cali by a Grizzly was in Lebec, Ca. In the 1830s.

I really enjoy your channel. The grizzly bear is likely why Oso Parkway is near by. I'm glad there are no more grizzly bears since it would make backpacking and hiking pretty risky. People are considered edible by grizzly bears. Timothy Treadwell is a good example.

did that hike years ago, well before the fire. I remember we did it in October after a brief storm, we had some snow at the very top, and super clear views
looking south all the way to Mexico due to some Santa Ana winds that had blown in. I have always thought that the California State flag should be changed to replace the Grizzly Bear with the Marmot, still plenty of those in the Sierras... I do like the idea of a Grizzly Bear national monument in that area and would be in favor of that...

Great review, thanks! I did the hike from Maple Springs a few years ago and hit both peaks, but wasn't to interested in going back. However, now that Holy Jim is open, I'll be going back in later in the year. You sold me on the hike, although the peak is still....meh. 😋 That could change. Like they say..."It's about the journey..."

People have zero idea how remote California is. If from east. The place is empty except for six cities.
The coastal area central is more remote than desert in some respects. Northeast is empty. Nothing on east Sierra. Lone Pine. Independence. Big pine. Bishop. Mammoth. I don't even count Lee Vining. Zero between there and Carson.
It is empty wilderness desert. Over half the state.
People who live there don't even know there are 3 or 4 passes between LA and Landcaster. And 10,000 foot mountain!
