    Hi guys! I love seeing Travis junior alongside you. It's a great, wholesome pastime and something that will stay with him for life.
    FYI- Seeing all of those oysters shells is not uncommon especially found in privy. The reason they are so abundant is that they were considered "the poor man's food". They were extremely abundant and cheap to buy. It was the one food most poor families could buy during hard times. They used to sell them from fish stores and hot dog-like carts and sold them raw or cooked. You could get a big bag full of nickel. Or for half a penny you could get a dozen along with a slice of bread. They didn't become the " rich man's" food until about the 1960s when supplies started becoming harder to come by due to pollution, hence prices went way up.
    Great finds today boys!!

    My son Rick dug a Faberge' perfume bottle out of an old dump in Ellensburg, Wash. that looked like a beautiful blue crystal and had a sterling silver top. It was worth $5,000 but a doper broke into his house and stole it. The cops wouldn't do anything about it so we took care of the situation ourselves.

    I looked at our only mug base Hutch last weekend at our show, first time in two years. "Hamakua Soda Works", a Big Island country bottle, probably won't show up here. Was kind of a bargain at $350, but I didn't bite. The dump out here is along a dry stone wall. It seems to be plantation machine shop and household junk 1878-1915 or so. It was dug a lot in the '70s or '80s by the generation of diggers people talk about. I am a chronic sifter and have found an 1872 Quarter, 1880s Royal Hawaiian forces brass button, Pantheon Saloon token, about 5 local common Hutchinsons. A broken amber "H.I." Hutch, 1890s Hollister med. Last Hutch in '19, amethyst Waialua Soda Works 4pc. On 2016 I bought our only crockery, a Weir Jar " Kealekekua Kanning Ko". About 1915 or later because of the inappropriate initials? It has the rusty hardware on it and the cover. It's also Big Island. Our stone ginger beer is a crown about 1917. I bought it about ten years ago. Never dug a frag even. I found a bunch of unmarked ones in Town, but a little too old for the porcelain caps. 1860s-'93, when something was built there.

    Well done with the doll's head and eyes. The original glass eyes were placed with a bit of wax and held in place with plaster. If the plaster gets wet it softens and the eyes fall out, but often they remain in the head. Even if the head is shattered, the old eyes remain valuable.

    There use to be a place back home that they built a levie along the Mississippi River and I was told long ago they stacked old cars on top of each other threw there and put dirt on top of them to form a road along side the river and around 2009 it was a big flood and they had to bust a section out of the levie road to relieve pressure of the river and when they did a few of the old cars came to light . I wish I could have been there being a big car guy like myself.

    The bottles you dont want,do you just leave them? Or take them and throw them away so there not trashing up the area.

    • @CrickDiggersInc
      @CrickDiggersInc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If there really modern we put them back in the hole. If they are decent age around 1910 or older we take them. We have a storage building, we stockpile bottles in. Have thousands but in a bottle dump sometimes over a million bottles in those instances we leave them there. If you find s bottle dump that’s all it will ever be. You are talking about somewhere that was used as a dump for 30-40 years every day. You would never be able to clean up the area, normally the town or state would cover it over with clay or coal but to my knowledge I’ve never seen or heard of anyone cleaning up a bottle dump. Sometimes they go deeper than 20 ft of just trash.
