- A full unabridged audiobook of the classic gothic story, "The Black Cat", by Edgar Allan Poe - complete with sounds and visuals.
"The Black Cat" was first published in the August 19th 1843 edition of The Saturday Evening Post. In the story, an unnamed narrator has a strong affection for pets until he perversely turns to abusing them. His favourite, a pet black cat, bites him one night and the narrator punishes it by cutting its eye out and then hanging it from a tree.
The story is a study of the psychology of guilt, often paired in analysis with Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" and is Poe's strongest warning against the dangers of alcoholism.

Poe was brilliant in his darkness.
He certainly was. Thanks for listening!
Funny how most people think all of his writing is best read with an English accent when Poe was a Boston boy😂
You’re absolutely right! Hope you enjoyed this one, though
@@classicaudiobookswithelliot Loved it!
I think it's more the way he spoke and wrote that lends itself that way. I'd really be interested to hear his actual voice. I imagine Vincent Priceish, but not quite, and his readings are not my favorite
It is because he used a British English, I noticed that when I read the mask of the red death.
I have just found your channel and I love it! Your narrations and artwork are wonderful !
Thank you very much for the kind words. Love making all the artworks that accompany these books. So glad you enjoy them too!

Thanks for listening Napoleon!
I haven't listened to this yet..but I will soon. I was a huge fan of reading poe 30 yrs ago as a kid. I remember this story as being one of the scariest...for me, anyway. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong but isn't this a lot like "Pet Semetary" by Stephen King?
I’ve never read Pet Semetary actually! But this is certainly a creepy idea for a story. Well worth listening to (in my humble opinion!).
@@classicaudiobookswithelliot nope...I was wrong. This is WAY darker than pet Semetary.
😂😂
Thank you 😊👍
